GH,WEA,TT,TG & TE Thanks guys for everything, I have once again furthered my education here on fanblogs. I'm glad yall didnt dwell too much into regional stereotypes, history lessens or politics on a college football forum. I believe in the abolition of the two-party system, seperation of Church & State,freedom of speech, freedom of choice, campaign finance reform, abolition of the IRS, God,Apple pie & Chevrolet.
I also beleive that Uncle Sam wants you to speak English and that beer is cheaper than gasoline. As an anti-War, pro-Choice gun owner who tries to purchase products made America, I must confess that like Dylan said the times they are a changing.I parked today in a space marked for alternative fueled vehicles only, then I was told by security that I couldnt smoke outside in aparking lot, then went to a place and got an iced tea and they didnt have any sugar- only that fake stuff and to top it off I paid for it with a debit card. One thing is for sure in this politically correct apathetic enviroment in which we subside to taxation without representation and unethical financial misappropriation we still have college football. It's something that people from different regions of the country including folks born north of plum creek can enjoy.

Before I start - I have lived in South Carolina all my life and love grits and sweet tea as much as anyone, but from my take, both of yall are right - from different vantages.

I won't go into the reasons the Civil War happened; that won't help.

TampaGator hit the nail on the head when he mentioned "Regionalism". Pure and simple, Regionalism is far more pronounced in the South for many reasons, many of which stem from the Civil War, but more importantly the Reconstruction era.

Put simply - No One takes kindly to being looked down upon, and few can disagree that the South (as a whole) has been looked down upon by the rest of America ever since the Civil War.

Sometimes deservedly (no one can reasonably defend the practice of slavery), but regardless, there is only so much any reasonable person can take of being heckled by the pervading culture before elements of social rebellion arise.

As far as the South's obsession with football goes, it goes back to 1925.

Back then, CFB was ruled by the likes of the elite schools like Harvard, Yale, Michigan, Stanford, etc. The South was seen as a cultural backwater, whose football teams could not compete any more with the elite northern and western teams than they could win the perverbial academic debate with the elite universities of America.

This is how CFB started, and this is the way it was when Alabama was invited to the Rose Bowl (after 2 other teams turned the date down) to play an undefeated powerhouse Washington team.

Alabama won: 20-19.

Suddenly, Southerners who have known little but generational poverty and economic oppression at the hands of carpetbaggers, etc. were just as good at something up there at the elite level as the 'more sophisticated' rest of the nation.

CFB was regionally to the South what it was generally to Notre Dame - the rise of the underdog that rose to be the champion.

Because I am just like that when one of my teams are called out, nothing more :)

I expect nothing less from Gator Nation if the roles were reversed.

From my understanding, Miami and Florida will have plenty of "big deals" to have against each other from throughout the last 75 years or so, one more will blend in seamlessly to enhance an already great rivalry.

What's not to like?

Kids???? More like young men. Look at some of thier rap sheets. They can make millions of dollars (some declare the draft after thier 2nd year) but they can't take it when a team purely out perform them. How is running up the score, disrespect? You are kidding RIGHT? Maybe a lesson on '" this is how to conduct yourself when a team is much better than yours" is what they need. So in a baseball game, and you lead you opponent 9-1, it's last ending. Do you tell your power hitter not to hit the gram-slam, because you might hurt their feeling.

Stunk up the field, HOLD THAT THOUGHT. So if the score is 26-3 in a winning effort, and you call it stinking up the field? So what do you call 41-14 in a losing effort by a supposely NC contender, that gets VIOLATED by a team, that was not suppose to be there????

Do Sylvester Croom, as for running for president??? Dude, how can you link the SEC to racism and politics. What makes the SEC any different from any other conference, other than they are (arguable) the best conference. I am having a hard time believing that the above statement came from an adult with common sense. Most sports news anchors, are always complimenting the SEC coaches strictly because of their ability to coach as a whole conference. Dude,,,,GET A LIFE!!!!!!!

Sooo.... The ambassador of good sportmanship, Warren Sapp, decided to open his mouth and spit out that Urban Meyer is low class?

Is this the same Warren Sapp that came from Miami U. that brawled with a team that they outmatched? Is it the same Miami that stomped on cats?

Cause I'm curious to where Miami fans and alum get the assumption that they have the high road in this case.

Now, I wish Florida put up 100 points on them.

Forrest got it organized and gave it legs to grow after his appointment as before then it mostly pockets of white dudes with pitchforks running...

Not mentioned is his close association with Hood and his Raiders through it all (admittedly I didn't read through it)...

I gots more info from a "Civil War in KY" class I took under a true blue Kentucky Colonel Prof at the "Sue" who also claimed that even after he "left" the "organization" (Prof's word) Nate was fully involved and continued to employ Bell and his Raiders from behind the scenes...

I could dig up the notes but that might take a few days...

Groom and Gump aside, I knew the truth before the film came out. Forrest didn't found the Klan, he just used his name to further it's fraternal ideals initially. He disavowed and sought to disband it when it mutated into it's sociopathic ways (not to suggest he was a saint or anything...)

Why the fruits of his loin went on to play football at the Capstone is another subject entirely, but one in which I will be delighted to engage...

Point I was going to make for you; before Tommie attempted to make everyone here stupider with that moronic dribble; was this...

You need those teams to win those games as it only helps your squad...

The BCS has bred this: In a perfect world all of your regular season opponents; conference and non; for the year would have only one loss (to you) and be undefeated for the year otherwise while your team reamins undefeated....

In that ideal scenario, your team will then have acheived a huge boost in the computer ratings through SOS, your opponents rankings, etc...

However, we all know that can't happen...

So, while I hate UGA I certainly want them undefeated and them I certainly want them to win out after getting beat by the Gators (Not saying that is what will happen) as that certainly bodes well for UF...

In other words, you want those teams that are on your schedule rivalry or not to win as many games as they can to help you out...

Get it?

You got to keep in mind, that most of these guys great-great grandpappy's ashes still sit in a urn on the mantle over the fireplace, just below the Confederate flag.

No historical signifigance but simply a mass generalization fueled by ignorance...

The disgrace of losing that war has never gone away....

The Civil War was a disgrace and blight upon the entire country as a whole along with the fallout and continued mistreatment and segregation of "free" men whom even in the North were looked down upon for years to come simply because of the color of their skin and in many cases STILL have to navigate it today...

The battle cry has always been that, "the South will rise again"!

Fact is, my misled little friend, that lasted for a few years after the CW which led to brief uprising about five years or so later which was quickly quelled...

While popular among old timers for years, as the "South" grew further from it's agricultural roots, developed industrial and professional arenas and raised it's education level it was heard less and less as "southerenrs" became encompassed with the aforementioned economically and realized that the premise for which they had ceded the Union not so long ago under a thinly veiled excuse of "States Rights" was in fact morally and irreprehensibly wrong; especially as literacy took root...

In fact, most modern Southeners consider that phrase and the flag that accompanies it distasteful, improper and and a slap in the face of the descendants of those who suffered such horrific circumstances and sadistic treatment even in the face of denouncing their own heritage and family history while fully knowing that it can't make up for the atrocities that possibly occurred by their own ancsestors or even more possibly that didn't occur as such given that the number of slave operational plantations were FAR outnumbered by the magnitude of small farmers that could not afford such immoral labor...

In fact, that's where I take such vehement offense at your misspoken and gross generalizations and stereotyping so much so that I can honestly say that had that been said directly in front of me you would have been picking yourself up off the floor wondering why your were tasting your own blood...

And anybody here will tell you, that I certainly don't condone that and a statement like that is totally out of charachter for me...

I don't want to talk "freaks in Hollywood" OR "Southern Stereotypes", chief...

If you want to keep it focused on FOOTBALL and contain your joking and name calling to strictly that, then we have no problems...

But the minute you start profiling and sterotyping whether regionally or ethnically, I'll be right back in your grill...
