Thanks RG I checked it out, must be brand new, they had 1 guest and zero users a grand total of four posts- Guess I was the guest and the author did the posts. We have seen these things before, on just about every new coach, guy hasn't even got his feet wet yet.
I understand that Petrino has an outstanding class coming in, real hotbed for talent in that part of the country.

It's two secondary violations so not really a big deal. However, it does expose the hipocrisy of a guy who recently bragged he scored 39 out of 40 on the NCAA coaches eligibility exam. Now I've never recruited high school athletes and even I know you can't simulate a game day environment for the recruits.

Those guys were excellent recruiters and were great adversaries against the Longhorns

Thats cool RG The contenintal club is on south Congress they have bands like Dale Watson & the Lonestars- Great Honky Tonk Music
We used to go up into Austin in the 70's & 80's quite a bit, but now parking & Traffic are real issues, not to mention the 50 + miles.
San Marcos is pretty laid back and alot closer, there are several live music venues and a wide rage of stuff.
The whole Gruene area has really changed, its kinda touristy or something now, last band we heard there was Seth James kid plays a mean slide guitar. They still have alot of touring bands play there like Leon Russell, Steve Earle & Buddy Guy, its still the same old place just more crowded and expensive,even Ole Willie plays there on occassion.

I'm a huge Texas honky tonk fan, so I'll have to check them out. It's been a while since I've visited any of the clubs outside of Austin. I think I was last in the Gruene Music Hall about ten years ago. I must confess, I don't miss living in Houston, but I do miss living in Texas!

When visiting Austin, I usually stay in the Marriott right next to the capitol building and don't bother renting a car, so traffic isn't really an issue for me. Being walking distance from the capitol and a short cab ride from 6th Street is a good spot for me.

Good one, Bobb! Very funny! On the other hand, you're criticizing my comprehension skills while failing to note that my remark was obviously a joke (see the emoticon?). Perhaps we could both improve our comprehension.

Anyway, we've gotten WAY off topic and exceedingly personal on this thread. (Yes, I know what offsets are and thanks very much for the explanation.) Your initial point of suggesting it was "dirty pool" for Urban Meyer to "snake" a VT recruit is naive. But don't listen to me, try reading the linked article, or better yet, find ANYONE on this site who agrees with you on this subject (and no, I don't mean someone with a grudge against UF or Urban Meyer). Has anyone chimed into this debate to agree with you? If you can show me a coach who backs off a potential recruit before LOI day, I'll show you a coach with a losing record.

If anyone should be mad, it's Meyer who lost two "commited" recuits to Tennessee, but I don't see him whining about this. I'm a Gator fan and I'm not whining about it either. Why so harsh, Bobb?

When did I tell you not to debate me back? I was referring to your tone, talking about maligning Meyer, taking my tongue in cheek comments a little too serious. As far as me not writing clearly, you even read the original article I referred to and that never mentioned NuKeese Richardson or Tennessee. Yet you still thought I was referring to something I NEVER MENTIONED.

BTW, here’s a hint – you see how comments on this site are offset, some more than others? Well, the different offsets can give you a clue about the specific topic of a given comment. Generally, comments that are more offset refer more closely to the closest comment above that is just one space to the left. I’m sorry, I’m probably not explaining this very well. I just picked up on it myself. It just seems so obvious, I’m not sure how to actually explain it. Can ANYONE help me out here? Sorry I’m not writing clearly enough for you. What will it take, down to a 6th grade reading comprehension level?

Perhaps GT never taught me how to read between the lines, but they did teach me to write clearly (that makes one of us).

Traffic in Austin is pretty bad now.The same artist that play Austin also play San Marcos & New Braunfels. The Cheathamstreet warehouse used to have George Strait every Tues and Stevie Vaughn every Wed in the early Eighties. Check out www.cheathamstreet.com Redd also plays Rileys Taveren , the Triple Crown Club and the Venues in Gruene.
The latest band to gain some recognition from this area is Randy Rogers
Band-sounds alot like Steve Earle, prior to that couple of years ago it was Los Lonely Boys. I really like the Joel Hoffman Band- twin telecasters hard core Texas honky tonk.

Lighten up RG. First, I was referring to Percy Harvin leaving for the NFL, as I mentioned in the original post AND as stated in the article on Hokiesports, so get YOUR facts straight. Judges ruling….Ding Ding Ding…Point VT (of course I don’t know, maybe he IS taking a pay cut going to the NFL from FL…so maybe that's a push). So, you can say I was “maligning” (according to Merriam-Webster Online - “uttering injuriously misleading or false reports about : speaking evil of”) Urban, but actually you accusing me of maligning Urban was not only not factual, it was in fact maligning me!!! How DARE YOU!!!! OK deep breaths…

Second, I think relationships are a good metaphor for college football recruiting too, that's why I originally used it (thank you for the compliment). That's also where the "spooning" talk came in, a continuation of the metaphor. Guess neither FL nor GT taught you how to read between the lines? Can you only interpret literal sentences? No interpretive abilities? (I’m an engineer, so if you are a Ramblin’ Wreck from Tech, you can’t use that as an excuse.)

And regarding wives and girlfriends, I’m with you. Like I said, unless there is a pimp involved (OK even if there is a pimp involved), there is no ownership. But, just because you trust your lady, doesn’t mean another guy hitting on them isn’t going to annoy you.

Check your timeline, Bobb. According to the article you linked, Beamer's recruit was called 3 days after the BCS-NC game. Meyer found out about Richardson commiting to Tennessee on national LOI day - more than a month later. Meyer had "googly eyes" for this recruit long before he knew about Richardson switching his commitment. If you are going to malign Urban Meyer, you should get your facts straight.

Besides, Meyer got his "stud receiver" - his name is Andre DeBose and he is a much stronger prospect than Richardson, so Meyer did just fine and Beamer got to keep his spooning partner (where on earth did you get THAT from?).

"Bigger and better things" - I'm gonna need a ruling from the judges on this one. [BEEEEEEEEP]. Just as I thought - if you think TN is "bigger and better" than UF at this point, you don't know shee-ott about NCAA football.

None of this really matters, though. Coaches will stop recruiting star players the instant they believe they no longer have a chance at signing them. You can call Meyer a "snake", a "thief", a "spooner" - whatever other nasty name you can dream up, Bobb. It doesn't change the fact that ANY coach will continue calling a recruit as long as he thinks there's a chance.

Regarding my wife/girlfriend, I learned long ago that you can't build a wall around the things you love and hope that nobody ever looks at them. There's an old saying about "if you love something, set it free..." and I'm guessing you're either familiar with it or you can find it on your own. I've found it better to build strong relationships and trust the people I care about to be loyal to me, even when I'm not looking.

Funny, that's a pretty good metaphor for college football recruiting.

BTW, I was not trying to defend Kiffen, I just happened to see the article about Meyer and one of VT's recruits, and thought it was pertinent to the discussion.

As I originally posted, I know it's not an NCAA violation, but I seem to remember reading a year or two ago that most coaches generally don't heavily pursue another schools hard commits. I know, at least part of that is not wanting to waste the effort if there is little chance of landing the guy.

And you are right, I used the word "steal" in error; should have used "snake" as I did in the original post. You can't steal something from someone if they don't own it (like your wife and girlfriend, unless of course there is a pimp involved).

Also, until Meyer started making googly eyes at our recruit because his current stud receiver was leaving him for bigger and better things and Urban was afraid he wouldn’t have anyone to spoon with on Sunday morning, the only thing I had against him was that he coached for one of the three “Axis of Evil” Florida schools.
