Fanblogs Open Conference Championship Thread
This 'pre-season' game is rapidly gaining a lot of attention. How much longer before the imitators appear, and can they produce as intriguing a matchup?
Surely Jacobs will understand the significance of a game like this soon enough. I bet he won't decline the offer if given a second time...
But the problem is, the Cows of Chick-fil-a probably aren't over the reject they received by the Tigers of Auburn just yet. Give it time. I'm sure they'll find each other one of these days.
Eat mor elEfant!
More teams ought to do these kind of OOC games- This will be the first time the Yellowjackets have faced a B-12 team since 93 at that was against Baylor.
Darn...
Oh, and we'll see if Kiffin lasts long enough to make his 4th season debut in Atlanta. Hmm...
This game should just be called the ACC vs. SEC Chick-fil-a Kickoff Classic.
I've heard news that the big guys in charge of these matchups want to eventually reach outside the Southeast to teams like Michigan, Texas, Ohio State, etc.
Think USC would come over to play an SEC team?
They did come play AU earlier this decade.
Think of the hype THAT would create!
Ohh, I can see it now....
Top SEC team plays USC (or insert Texas, Oklahoma..)
Winner goes on to finish undefeated.
Loser also wins out.
No other team in the country goes undefeated.
They are ranked 1 & 2.
Both win their repective conference.
But wait! Team 2 lost to Team 1 already! We can't have a rematch as the NC game, says the BCS.
What happens??
OHH THE CONTROVERSY!!!!!!!!!
Sorry, just had a *Crystal Ball* moment...
On a side note just wondering what your dad thinks of you being a Bammer? Since he's a tried and true "blue and orange tigger"!
FYI: I just saw Mark Richt & Paul Johnson at the grocery store buying some cheese to go along with alll their WHINE that'll come from this game like all the others... If they're so paranoid about Alabama & Clemson & Tennessee & Va Tech coming in and "stealing" their recruits, they should sign up to play...
Now for the more important question:
"I fully expect that in 2012 both of these rising programs will be ranked in the top 20."
Well, Mr. Gary, while I like the match-up, what if you're wrong? True, NC St has come along, and while they may get "there", they're not there yet. As for TN, you may be asking for a lot of a new coaching staff even in 3 years. Besides, the Vols haven't exactly been a boon of consistency of late, having sandwiched a 9-4 & 10-4 seasons between two 5-win seasons within which they lost to Vandy & WY (not exactly the way I wanted to see Fulmer go out).
Now that the schools have moved the game to a one-night stand in Atlanta, both schools give up the second game. The way the money works out, there MUST be a benefit to doing this and scrapping an already-existing arrangement, but I'm kinda foggy on what it might be. Then again, I just got home from work...
TENN also has a home-and-home with UNC in 2011 (Chapel Hill) and 2012 (Knoxville).
The Vols and Pack have only played twice (1911 & 1939); both games were in Raleigh and they split shutouts, first 13-0 TENN, then 16-0 NCSU.
TENN leads their series with UNC 20-7-1, with all 28 games played between 1908 and 1961.
Geographically, the closest FBS school to TENN is CLEM (107 miles away). Of the 10x geographically closest FBS schools to TENN, six of them are ACC schools (CLEM, GT, WF, VT, UNC, NCSU); only three are SEC schools (UGA, UK, VAND).
TENN is 66-25-4 all-time vs. the ACC, but are only 1-3-1 vs. ACC teams in Altanta.
NCSU is 10-28-2 all-time vs. the SEC, and are 1-1 vs. SEC teams in Atlanta.
...so...why is this all about AUB and BAMA? :-)
You'd have to get 50k Vol fans to show up, Wolfpack fans don't travel...
Alabama brought 40,000 to The Ga Dome this year... there wasn't even that many people TOTAL at the Pizza Bowl last year:

38,582 in a 70,000 capacity stadium, congratulations...
And the Gator Bowl you speak of was the 2002 season, but techincally the 2003 Gator Bowl...
Yawn...
