Fanblogs.com: Tennessee working on fat raise for Fulmer

  • IBleedOrange · 1 year ago
Fulmer's a great man and a great coach. As a Vol fan, I've always supported him... but I don't think he needs a raise. I'm OK with a contract extension, but no more raises until we're raising an SEC Championship trophey!

So where does the Doghouse fit in War? You know us Vol fans, we'll come around when we are 1-0 screaming about a BCS Championship! I'll try to pop in more often, although it won't be in the next 7-8 days. I plan to dream of what it's like to be a Tide Fan while vacationing in beautiful Fort Morgan, or is that Tiger country? War Damn Tide or whatever it is you guys say down there! I only hope my mullett is as nice as my mother in laws! (Huntsville's Finest) Been growing it especially for this trip. Sneak down to Pensacola and we'll hit up Lookers, I think that's the name of that 2 star strip joint down there. I hear the distinguished gentlemen from EDSBS are known to frequent such establishments from time to time, we may possibly run into them.

I don't see it guys. I'm like Kevin, we go from the frying pan to the fire to the penthouse with Phil. If the new OC lights it up with his new offense and Chavis' can muster up enough brain cells to have an average defense this year, THEN CONSIDER a raise. Until we get rid of Chavis and hire a Defensive Coordinator who can hang with the big boys we will stay where we are...Peach, Cotton, so forth, so on.

You forgot outhouse in that cliche', Vol Pimp. You go from frying pan to the fire, OUTHOUSE to the penthouse...

Why, yes, I am creative writing director here at fanblogs, thank you.

Welcome back. We haven't like had a Vowel fan on here since you left...

Phil Fulmer just might be worth $2.5 M. Without question he is one of the better coaches in the country, let alone the SEC, and we all know how loaded the SEC is with fine coaches. He's got one of the better overall records compared with others in the SEC; he's got arguably the best record against other teams in the SEC, AND he's won a NC in the past 10 years. In less than 3 years, he'll surpass Robert Neyland as TN's winningest HC. For sure, he deserves a decent retirement, when his time comes, if not the stadium renamed for him as well.

Maybe it's the kiss of death...the dreaded "vote of confidence"...the proverbial death knell.

I like Phil, and I hope he gets to retire on his own terms...but he won't see half of that extension if his Vols continue to get pasted to the tune of 59-20 to the Gators (coincidentally, I just watched that game again on Monday night).

WEA: how about: "Phil Fulmer field at Neyland Stadium"--a la FSU ("BB Field at DC stadium"...should be "X Stadium at Y field," since the field naturally precedes the stadium, but at least they'll have some precedent to follow...and on that note, hopefully they'll dedicate the field on the third Saturday in September). :)

...Urban Meyer Field @ Neyland Stadium...

...has a nice ring to it!

    GO GATORS!!

How does a coach go from the tip of the pitchfork and getting run out on a rail... end up with a seven-year extension?!?!? That fluke appearance in the SEC title game appearance really paid off for ol' Phil.

He deserves it. Good coach. If I recall, he won the 1st BCS national title.

Just another example of the Peter Principle at work in the SEC as it applies to coaching salaries. All of those are measured against Saban's. Roughly put: Coaches will keep getting raises to bring their salary closer to Saban's until they're either fired or everybody has passed Saban by or Saban is given another raise. Kind of reminds you of oil prices, huh?

Wonder if they'll call it Fulmer stadium one day...
