Fanblogs Open Conference Championship Thread
If not weak at least unrealistic. Nobody really ever considers these rare scenarios and how they might play out before the season starts. Can you really blame them for not reading the fine print and contemplating all the unknowns?
But I agree they should check themselves before they wreck themselves....
That or go ahead and claim some of the BIG10 championship too....
The Longhorns have managed to become the fools of the 2009 offseason. It's just sad, really.
When has another school been put in this situation? I seriously doubt that those schools would just sit there and smile as they get passed by a team that they beat because of the way the system works, but that's just my opinion.
If you want to call it B-12 conf champ bonuses- go ahead
Every season is different and 08 was no exception
Its really cool that two teams Texas & Oklahoma are usually in the top ten nationally. Its pretty cool that they face each other every year in a neutral stadium the the crowd split 50/50- the XII champ game is not as big as the RRS game-its not. .012 % difference between the two teams
Whats really funny is that folks from the outside looking in can't understand.
A 3 way tie is a 3 way tie
The B-12 south has been a lot tougher than the B-12 north the last several years- not to take anything away from TTech- hey they beat Texas
Aint nobody whining
I saw the Texas Tech vs A&M game- did yall ? A&M sucked last year and led TTech at the half- I know close dont count, but it showed me that they could be beat
I listened to the TTech vs BU game- wow what a close one BU led until the final minutes was driving the ball- two incompletetions- turned over on downs- TTech wins another real close one- had BU won would Texas have been in the CCG game- probably
I saw the TTech @ OU game and OU whipped TTech
I picked Ole Miss over TTech and I picked UF over OU
Whats really hard for other folks{ fans of the other 118 Div 1-A teams} to understand is that the MNC game was of no importance to us Texas fans.
Cant pull for OU, arch rivals that we dont like- we dont have that pull for them because they are in your conference mentality that the SEC fans have.
Hookem Horns- you cant understand its a Texas thing
Isn't a top 5 finish good enough for the staff to meet performance bonuses?
Sure they didn't win the tiebreaker, but it was a pretty darn good season.
IMO, the bonuses were earned de facto; no biggie.
GO GATORS!!
I agree with you, if the point of the bonuses was to continue to pound the championship drum (in otherwords, precisley because it's not that much money, they issue the bonuses for the purpose of claiming the BXII champ), rather than because they genuinely thought the assistants earned it, and they wanted to give them incentive to stick around.
I'm just not quite sold though, that the incidental benefit was the primary motive.
GO GATORS!!

I guess that's the price they have to pay him so he won't leave and take a head coaching job that he may or may not even have success with.
Point taken; I'll refer you to my reply to Kevin above.
GO GATORS!!
What about Texas Tech coaches?
