Fanblogs Open Conference Championship Thread
I can almost here Don LaFontaine (R.I.P.) doing the voice over for the tagline posthumously in my head...
Gatorhippy...
Ramblin Gator...
War Eagle Atlanta...
They start Friday at a theater near you...
"En a tyme when my Diddy was a poor white trash farmer in West Vahginia, there was a monster who terryized the kuntryside..."
Being old school myself, I wouldn't penalize a team too much for a quality loss, but the media's love affair with the Bucs may start to wane if they lose. Since there may not be enough speed bumps for USC the rest of the year, I say 'Go Bucs!'
Ahhhhhhh.....wha? You're kidding, right? I can't count the number of times I've read or heard "Ohio State and the Big 10(11) doesn't belong in a BCS game ever again." Especially after the last NC game. FYI--the nickname is Bucks. You're talking about Tampa Bay when you use Bucs. :-)
Anyway, I'm in agreement with Kevin that a win or loss will determine what happens to OSU and the Big 10(11)--but it'll be limited to this year. I don't believe this is the beginning of the dark ages for the Big 10(11); I believe they are beginning to hit the bottom and have nowhere to look but up.
As for the game this week, USC will win by at least21. As of today, Chris Wells is listed as doubtful. If he doesn't play, it'll be worse.
What I meant by media love is what you see in the polls--AP, specifically. And no, that doesn't mean that they haven't deserved it.
Fancy!! :-)
I agree...3 touchdowns, and the OSU defense is humbled for the 3rd time in as many years...
So far, all I've heard is doubtful for Saturday. Here's the latest from the Dispatch as of 1:09pm.
SportsCenter had the Big 10 ESPN Blogger on there who mentioned it...
Now granted, that means to me he probably will not play, but nobody is saying he's "definitely out", or that there's "no way in hell he'll play."
One thing is for sure--he went to bed last night after telling the coaching staff he'd be ready to get 45 carries and then he woke up this morning with a completely different tune. I don't think anybody is going to know what the hell to expect until Saturday night when the game starts.
Sigh. I'm really not looking forward to seeing them getting their asses kicked on national TV again, but eh...I'm getting kind of used to it now.
Congrats on the win ahead of time, though I wish Pryor was a tad bit older and Tressel a tad bit less conservative and Midwestern...
They'd pound you like Mark Sanchez pounds High School girls...
Rest assured, your time will come...The stars will align, & you'll face team like LSU, or Georgia or Florida...One hopes you'll come back after your precious myth of superiority blows apart like a trailer park subdivision in a tornado...
Man, I thought that I had kicked you to the curb about a 100 miles ago. Looks like you done grabbed on to the runnin' board and look tore up. I can hear you yappin' outside the window, but I got the music up so high, I can't quite make up what your yappin' about.....
Clearly, your intellect (did I spell that right?), and keen knowledge of everything under the sun (not to mention that you are afterall Tiger Educated), has clearly made you into "the King of the Cats". Henceforth, you have earned the coveted title of "Big Kitty". From this day forward we shall "all Hail Big Kitty".
They may be a power in the midwest and both have strong recruiting classes, so that means coaching should be reviewed.
In uM's case of RR in AA, the jury is still out. Sweater vest doesn't seem to be up to the level of coaching that his recruiting is.
Ohio State will live with the fallout of the last two years until they bury it with perfection. Any slipup and they are done.
And now that Tressel has announce that Beanie probably won't play, this seems less and less likely. They won't just miss his production....He's the guy that the rest of the team looks up to in the huddle. He makes everyone around him better, the true mark of a great player.
The defense had better play lights out. Once again, I had to laugh at Mark May last night. He was saying that USC will put up at least 50 on the Buckeyes...look at what they did to Virginia. If Mr May thinks that he can compare Virginia's rebuilt defense with Ohio State, he'd better get an MRI on his head, he must have a tumor.
If the Beanie-less Buckeyes can't maintain some ball control, the defense will be on the field for a LONG time.
This OSU's national championship. If they lose, they will be playing the PAC-10's second place team in the Rose Bowl. Oh well, worse things have happened.
GO BUCKS!!!!
Or something like that...
My predict Ohio State 27-USC 3!
Great call on this one. And, your absolutely correct, as we didn't play anybody last week. Keep posting your picks - I need the cash.
It is possible that OSU loses then USC loses to, say, Stanford knoking them out of the BSCCG. In this case it is possible that you all could get a rematch in the Rose Bowl, or some other team that wins the PAC 10.
Come on, Big 10 boys....where the hell's your pride? Talk up some smack--this is positively depressing here. I'm coming along here ready to kick some dirt on your shoes, but when I kick...
...I realize the dirt is fall'n on a coffin that y'all have already jumped into, and are asking the rest of us to just go ahead and bury you!
That's just no fun.
****************************************************
Let me try my hand as Big 10 guy:
****************************************************
F% the Trojans...ain't that what they're used for anyway!
Listen up you sorry a$$ hollywood sissies....
Forget last year--we were rebuilding!
The year before--we just happened to run into probably the best damn football team in CFB history, when in played those Gators...so forget all that--you ain't the '06 GATORS!!! :)
Miami thought their sh#t didn't stink going into the NC game in '02...whence they were introduced to THE VEST!!!!
...and that's what's wait'n for you in LA this Saturday, punks! We're gonna beat you pretty boys like a drum, y'hear!!!
We're gonna' beat the "pretty" right off your pretty little faces...leave you lookin' like you were born in Ohio....or Michigan....
Putrid sissy a$$ punks...
Go BucKs!!
(So, how was I? Y'all thought I was a real live Bucknut there for a second, dincha'?)
GO GATORS!!
Go Bucks!
Listen up you sorry a$$ hollywood sissies....
Forget last year--we were rebuilding!
Go Bucks!
That's what I'm talk'n bout!!
WOO WHOOO!!!
....oh...cut & pasted huh...well...duly flatterd anyway.
GO GATORS!!
Sound off like you got a pair! I can't hear you, maggot. That was barely even a whimper. Mark Sanchez's dates put up a better fight than that.....
But I think i hate USC more... not sure yet.
and because SEC fans hate seeing teams like OSU, Michigan, Oklahoma, USC, Texas, etc. get title consideration every year due to their weak in-conference schedule.
I don't think anyone doubts that the SEC contains more "legit" teams than any other conference.
but for some reason voters throw that out the window when bowl selection begins.
put it this way. if you rated every team on a scale of 1-100, the SEC would have far and away, more total rating points than any other conference.
get my drift?
That is the issue. You SEC fans make it seem that no team in any other conference can come and compete with the SEC. Well, I wish Michigan was in the SEC since we have a 20-5-1 record against you.
nobody believes that.
i think what people believe is that if other teams were given the grueling SEC schedule, they wouldn't survive. and this is true.
Michigan would finish 7th, at best, in the SEC this year.
imagine what that would do to recruiting.
Georgia, Florida, LSU, Auburn, Alabama, Tennessee, Ole Miss.
all better teams than Michigan this year.
sorry bud. i think Rich Rod's got yall on the right track though.
yall just dont have the personnel yet.
But, I would put Wisconsin, PSU, Illinois and OSU vs Georgia, Florida, Auburn and Alabama. LSU hasnt been tested yet, Tenn is not that strong and Ole Miss is ok.
Fact is, your top teams are even with any top teams in the country. And i dont think your SEC can take 3-4 games from each conference head to head.
SEC: 1. Florida 2. Georgia 3. Alabama 4. Auburn
Big 10: 1. OSU 2. Wisconsin 3. Penn State 4. Illinois
Big 12: 1. Oklahoma 2. Missouri 3. Texas 4. Kansas
Pac 10: 1. USC 2. Arizona St. 3. Oregon 4. Cal
ACC: Not playing football this year
Big East: 1. Wake Forest... maybe
Big East: 1. Wake Forest... maybe
PM, you better get in and edit this one while you still can! LOL!!
ouch. haha
UNC effectively burst Fresno's BCS busting bubble, and now Wisconsin just needs to finish letting the air out.
Hell, Bama'd be #1 on any list they did...
Alabama obviously pays off every recruiting service.
ESPN put them at #3. Last i heard, somebody got whacked for that one...
You can't possibly tell me you don't realize that Rivals was owned by, employed many, and leaned heavily towards Bama homer-status...
Seriously, Yahoo! had to let go their #1 "ranker" because of his Bama Homerishness, after their initial rankings came out after the Bama homer sold it off...
Tell me you're going to deny that, because I need a huge laugh...
Oh, by the way...Has Rivals ever came out and "re-ranked" the classes? They typically do that once they find out who made it to campus, and figuring what...at least 2-3 of your 4* or higher's didn't make it in or signed pro beisbol contracts, where did that leave ya'll?
Since you signed 32 kids, and combined with bias, it's hard not to be ranked #1, BC...
first. i dont see how recruiting sites could be biased even if they wanted to be. recruits are ranked WAY before the first recruit commits.
now yes, the player rankings are tweaked during their senior seasons, but MAJOR changes are not made.
a top 4-star (BJ Scott) may change to a 5-star.
a top 3-star (Mark Ingram) may change to a 4-star.
this goes for every school. also, every school gets ranked before recruits enroll, so what happens to the players after they sign doesn't factor in.
second. okay. let's say that Rivals, the #1 recruiting site, is solely run by this die-hard bama fan, that skews all of the rankings in bama's favor.
okay. then let's totally disregard Rivals and anything they have to say.
EVERY other publication ranked us #1.
except ESPN, which ranked us a lowly #3.
so.... whats your point?
disregard Rivals?
okay. i'll just look at Scout or ESPN.
He went from NR to 2*'s...
I'm going to have to go look it up just to get you to stop yammering about it, but the bottom line is that the site's biased, and we've documented it time, and time again...
I'm not asking you to say "let's say"...It was a fact...Rivals was owned by a big Bama homer...It's not a baseless accusation, you nincumpoop...it's FACTUAL...and before he sold it, and even afterwards, the bias showed all the time...
That's all I'll say about the matter...
You can say its not true all you like, but I'm at work for the foreseeable future (I don't foresee the future past 10pm CST), and I don't have the time to go linking you to the information, but it's there plain as day for you to go find out that-ONCE AGAIN-TE's right...
NR just means they don't have enough info on the recruit to make an assessment. no recruit stays at the NR status. they are all eventually assigned a star rating.
the fact that the recruit was only rated at two stars discredits your entire argument.
why wouldn't mr. Alabama himself, go in and change him to 3 or 4 or hell, even 5 stars?
it's all up to him isnt it?
just wondering, what do you do that keeps you working until 10 at night
AND
doesnt allow you the time to look up facts for a fanblogs.com argument?
INITECH?

My 9-5 is working with unemployed people, and seeing as how Hurricane Gustav just blew through, we've been working longer hours in an attempt to help everyone who needs or wants it...
Thanks for asking...
Check the stats, Hoss! I do believe more SEC teams make it into bowl games than any other conference. "if you rated every team on a scale of 1-100, the SEC would have far and away, more total rating points than any other conference". What would be your criteria for "rated"? We already have a rating system. It's called voters - and many times they are wrong. I have spent many a short time frame adding it all up. Fact is: The SEC has a very slight edge over the Big 12 and Pac 10 conferences in overall superiority. And, son, it really is very, very small. The SEC has a good penchant for winning their bowl games. That is a great plus for them. But, on the other hand, the very much like to shy away from any meaningful OOC competition during the course of the regular season. This has been improving as LSU did take on Virginia Tech in 07' and Alabama has played Clemson in 08'. I am speaking about historical data. Fact is: The SEC is gonna have to start to play these meaningful games as the BCS computers do pick this stuff up. Henceforth, USC left out of the 03' NC game and Auburn in 04', both as a result of weaker SOS than the other two teams. The rating system of the BCS is all BS, son! It's all based on what "voters" think. Very seldom is anything settled on the field. And, that is why everybody who is not from the south, thinks that everybody who is is completely insane. You guys somehow think that by only playing each other, and then playing one lousy bowl game (which your always handed the weakest opponent anyway - NCAA Rule # 1: always make the SEC look better than they really are as we generate more money on that venue as their fans are the dumbest in the land and really believe this soap opera), that you are impressing the hell out of the rest of the country. The rest of the country can see clearly what is going on here. Unless you all got something other than mercury in that water down there - then your players don't run any faster, jump any higher, or are physically stronger than any other geographic area in the country. We are quite sure that there is an inordinate amount of mercury in the water, though. That is very clear.
A little. Looks like I ran smack into "the Big Kitten". And, I'm growing a little weary of having to look at "Bama Boy's" ravings. What is queer to me is what each end of the spectrum is here. On one hand, you got "the Big Kitten" who clearly has gotten some form of education (be it home schooled or continuation high school), and "Should have Bled to Death Crimson" (where clearly there wasn't a school house anywhere near where that boy was inbred at). It is fascinating to perceive, that no matter what the education level is in the south, the overall SAT score is gonna be below that of a 3rd grader in any other part of the country. LOL!
Seriously, most of the people who really did go to college (like most of the War Eagles and Tigers and Dawgs), seem to understand that I simply must beat this thing back down somewhat. It does seem to have gotten out of control one more time. I hate when the NCAA let's the SEC win anything. They all seem to have forgotten that before the BCS era was created (just for them BTW), that the SEC was completely irrelevant, and would have remained so for another hundred years had the NCAA not found a way to prop them up a bit. Henceforth, you only hear arguments for the SEC referring to something called "the BCS era". Clearly, we hear at USC, Oklahoma and Ohio State (just to name a few) understand that football didn't just happen yesterday. For some moron to try and tell me all about how, "LSU is better than USC", is about as idiotic as it can even get. These guys get "handed" two trophies and think they line up with us? I haven't personally seen that Oklahoma case either - but I know there is a whole hell of alot of hardware in there. These clowns are pathetic to me.
You do realize you already lost this argument, already? Be it whether it comes to casting personal aspersions, alluding to relative education levels (and all I did was go to a public high school and a public postsecondary education institutions known as LSU; sucks to realize you're being bested by such lowly, almost peasantry level intellect as mine?), or even trying to cut someone down...
Hell, even when it comes to talking college football...
(Let's not bring up your soothsaying clairvoyance when it comes to political leanings, there, Sizzlechips)
You've shown a penchant for getting owned on points, and then completely changing the subject as if you didn't bring it up, and then reversing course and going down a completely different path...
You act as if no one has been watching you here, and then post on this thread as if you've "won" every single verbal volley you've enmeshed yourself in...
You literally are making it up as you go along...
It's actually quite humorous...
But, needless to say, you're id's obviously owerpowering your sense of pride here, and thank God the internet is such an anonymous place that you don't have to actually toss out these mindless insults and babbling, rambling diatribes in person, lest you be laughed your way out of any honest, serious discussion...
Seriously...Keep going...You're giving us all a good laugh, and you're giving some good sport and early season experience...I have to start up on War Eagle Atlanta on Monday, since we play them next Saturday...
Oh, now it's gonna be Tommy. Don't start gettin' all mushy and pissin' yourself just yet. Don't get weak on me, boy! I almost startin' to like your fire.
OU_Ron:
Not to worry. I've never seen a mother feline with kitties stop fightin' yet. I expect I'll have to grab her by the back of the neck and just mount up at some point....
Not that I didn't think I had a pretty good measure of the "man" before, but that's all it takes to disengage me...
He's not worth responding to, on any level, from here on out...
Listen up, punk ass! I live right on top of the San Andreas fault. It's within a mile of my crib. We fight ragin' infernos all summer long called "wildfires". In the winter time we battle massive mudslides caused by the major fire damage that happened earlier. This cycle repeats itself over and over every single year since I've been alive. Now, I have chosen to live here. That massive Shaker is comin', son! I'm not gonna get on here and start whinin' about my poor pitiful plight with you. If I wasn't willing to try and survive any of this - I would move to where the earthquakes, fire, and mudslides were not at. I expect you to man up. Either move to where the hurricanes are not at - or quit sniveling and grab a mop. Don't start your yappin' again around me as to how hard you got it. You got choices in your life - and I am not your problem! Fu@%&k, what a pansie you turned out to be. I thought you had a set for a second.....
It's supposed to be about college football on here, not insensitive pot shots from (in your words) a completely uneducated, moronic raving AZZ-HOLE! Get a phucking life you bi-otch.
How I wish, just once, that a piece of s-h-i-t like you wouldn't have your keyboard to hide behind.
And if that's the type of comments that are allowed on here, maybe I'm on the wrong site after all.
Geaux Tigers
Geaux tOSU!
How do you like dealing with a completely uneducated, moronic, raving, A-hole? Someone who has no substance to back up anything that they are talkin' about at all, is completely insensitive to anyone or anybody else on this blog, and has completely no respect for anybody else's team but their own? How doez that make you feel? Now, open your eyes and breath out. It's gonna be okay. Can you see?
good call.
but at the end, you mentioned our talent base.
in the SEC region of the country, for whatever reason, there are more great athletes than anywhere else.
which is part of the reason why every SEC team is so tough.
other warm-climate regions (such as the pac-10, and big xii) can compete, but no other region can match the ammount of great athletes generated from FL, GA, AL, LA, MS, and TN.
Well, maybe when you graduate from 3rd grade you'll be able to articulate some kinda meaningful response. Hope that works out for you. Kudos for takin' on Clemson. Big fat zeros for the Tulane and Western Kentucky games. Western Kentucky? You sure they are not too tough for you? Tulane almost whipped your ass Crimson.
Kudos for scheduling Stanford again...You sure they aren't too tough for you? They <del>almost</del> whipped your Trojan ass.
i can always count on you for a good laugh.
....you were joking right?
because im sure you were aware of the fact that alabama will end up playing 4 top-10 teams this year. 3 on the road.
please don't tell me you were actually trying to comapare USC's schedule with Alabama's.
ill do you a favor and give you the benefit of the doubt.
ahhhh. and i was beginning to think all of the fruits and nuts had left this site.
Your sh-t dont fly dude
Hookem-Horns
If you're up by twenty at the end of the game, don't kick a field goal...
You'll never hear the end of it...
Damn straight! instead, lob a TD in the corner of the endzone....blame Steve Spurrier for it.
May as well--if you're going to catch greif for it anyway, may as well take the TD, don't settle for a FG! (actually, I've found fans are less inclined to bitch about the add-on TD, just because you CAN; whereas the FG means you couldn't score a TD, but settled for junk points...).
GO GATORS!!
USC is ranked higher, and is expected to win.
but with both teams being ranked so close, the Bucs are expected to keep it close.
If the Buckeyes lose by more than 20 points (my prediction), then i think the Dark Ages may begin for the Big Ten.
but if they lose by any less than that, i think tOSU still have legitimate title hopes (however undeserved).
UNLESS.....
USC makes it into the title game, in which case, nobody wants to see a rematch.
I still think Florida or Georgia will wind up in the title game vs. USC in a game for the ages (wishful thinking).
ive been waiting for the SEC vs. USC showdown for sooooo long. because i think USC is the only non-SEC team that can compete with the #1 team from the SEC this year.
Yes, the two times they've had the chance to go up against the class of our conference, they were the little engine that couldn't...
They got theirs versus Big Game Bob Stoops...Which, lets face it, everyone beats nowadays in big showdowns (unless of course your name is Mack Brown, whose been routinely owned for years now by Bobby)...Almost shouldn't even count, y'know? :)
Other than the SEC, what else is there?
georgia, florida, lsu, auburn, and alabama all inside the top 15?
thats insane!
what's even more insane is that alabama plays every other one of those teams except florida..
and all media hype does is help recruiting.
just ask USC.
sooo, the SEC is gonna get even stronger??
difficult to fathom.
but here's why the SEC is so damn successful:
more fans = more money = better facilities + better coaches = better recruits = better teams = better, more exciting games/teams = more fans
but alabama's is tougher this year
N Clemson
@ Georgia
@ LSU
@ Tennessee
Ole Miss
Auburn
but of course, every game will be tough for Arkansas.
they'll be VERY lucky to win one SEC game this season.
The rest are average teams
SEC= on the downslide
your little racket is over..you know what I'm talking about
"We dont have to play anybody OOC because we're so good"
"If we lose 3 games, we're still the champions cause we're so good"
"If anyone else goes undefeated, they suck, cause we're so good"
By the end of the season, you'll be crying in your beer, "We lost 6 games, but we're still the best, everybody else is a joke!"
Florida is a one player team, couldn't even score on pathetic Miami.
LSU finally has a player with an IQ over 100..their QB, the rest are "special admissions". They still suck. Haven't beat anyone.
Georgia looks spectacular against DII teams. To bad they are scared to play real teams OOC...Oh I forgot, they don't have to, they are "so good"
Alabama? who cares, they'll end up in the "Salad Bowl" Unless, of course the salad bowl is more than 100 miles from SEC country. Alabama is way too scared to play on the road. Why don't you tell me about the Tide's willingness to play a decent team on the road. Can't do it, can you. Bunch of cowards. Oh yeah, you played Hawaii on the road 5 years ago. Whoopdedoo
Auburn...don't worry about this year, it's all about "2004,2004,2004"!!
Play a real team...and I mean "This year". As long as you don't play anyone, you can convince everyone that you're the best.
At least OSU has the stones to play a real team, and doesn't cower in their own stadium and pat themselves on the back.
More fans? more money? better facilities?
what a crock...
I guess you guys do have more double-wides than we do...
More fans? what's your biggest stadium? Pathetic Tenn? Let's talk about sellouts. OSU was selling out games when the SEC had 12 hillibillies in the stands, farting and drinking swamp water.
OSU and Michigan's budgets alone are more than the whole poor assed pathetic SEC.
Keep living on your two wins.
I'd love to be here when your conference has the courage to play good teams, but unfortunately you will hide in your trailer like the rest of the fanboys.
just wow.
where did this guy come from?
i really dont feel that a fact-less post like this deserves any type of lengthy response.
so ill just say. the entire post is wrong.
but you probably knew that while you were typing it.
why don't you go back to the bama forums where you belong
Our stadium "tween the hedges", also known as Sanford, use to hold 64,000 people and it was open on both ends. The east end, when I was a kid, had the rabid track dawgs. They sat there for free right by the railroad tracks and pulled for the dawgs. No opponents fan ever sat on the tracks and lived to tell about it, so I've heard. They could probably find the bones of a Tennessean among various artifacts along that hill. There were a lot more than twelve hillbillies sitting up there too and they drank alot of beer and whiskey. I watched the game but I found myself, many times, staring at those track people. I wondered where all those people went when they enclosed the stadium. I just can't imagine them buying a ticket, that would ruin it for me. I don't know but it kind of goes with your theme, I guess you brought back memories.
Now, if we can just angle that angst a bit West...towards LA...you know, where y'all have a game this weekend?
We're getting there. I'm willing to work it out with ya'...
GO GATORS!!
Now, that's what I call a post. Great job! Couldn't have said it any better. But, you may as well been talkin' to a fencepost. These guys are exactly like the Arabs. I say: "just kill em' all and let God sort em' out". These are teams that have only recently discovered the forward pass. That happened when Tebow, Stafford and Mustain were recruited to their respective universities. Nutt was so uncomfortable with it, that after Mustain had won eight straight games, he had to put Mustain back on the bench. Well, at least Frank Broyles finally had picked up a copy of "popular mechanics", and had discovered a mechanism called "the forward pass" - which really seemed to be working. Clearly, he was all over Nutt to just "try it". Nutt retreated deeper into the South - where he could run the ball with impunity. There is hope for Arkansas, as they have recruited another great QB in Mallett, and brought ina head coach who is a foremost expert on the forward pass. Urban Meyer's guy, Tebow, would suffer some of the same fears that Mustain had run into. Although a great QB, Tebow was forced into leading the country in rushing yardage, and somehow ending up with a Trophy. Tebow is the perfect "Wing-T" QB for Florida. Mark Richt got so uncomfortable with watching Matt Stafford throw the ball forward, that he actually recruited one of the great college RB's (K. Moreno), in order to not have to suffer this anymore. No, SEC football will struggle with this concept of throwing the ball forward for about another hundred years. They will also try as hard as they can to avoid playing anybody who does. Maybe sometime in the next century - we'll be able to give this conference a smidge of respect.
As for the players and coaches realizing that this is a big game and a lot is riding on it--all that stuff is just fluff and window dressing, and none of it matters when the game actually starts. All that matters then is great coaching, talent and execution.
That was pretty brutal. The O-line is mediocre? They played pretty bad last Sat, but that line is pretty frickin good.
I know that Boeckman is no Joe Namath, but neither was Craig Krenzel.
The defense will shut down the run, and the dbacks won't drop any interceptions. We get at least one defensive score.
Ray Small finallly gets out of the doghouse for good by returning another punt for a touchdown(with no blocks in the back).
Boom Herron has a breakout game.
No interceptions from Boeckman.
Terelle plays, takes the snap, he's running outside, he cuts back, jukes left and right, and goes all the way!!!!
woohoo!
Thanks Tampa Gator
I'm back, baby!
OSU 24, USC 3
hahaha
Sorry g, I just can't drink the Kool-Aid with this team right now. They have to prove it to me on the field, and right now they're just not doing it.
Penn State, Illinois or Michigan can make a run at making a second Big 10 BCS team. Minnesota is undefeated against MAC teams that have given them problems in the past.
They are faring far better than the ACC and Big East. This and the fact that the SEC and Big 12 can only send two teams greatly helps the Big 10. The non BCS teams look to be set on one spot, with 4 teams in the top 25 and 2 others near the ORV column, leaving one BCS slot open for the PAC 10 and Big 10 to fight over.
Unless Ohio State and Wisconsin BOTH lose, the Big 10 is still very much in the running for a second BCS bid, though they would have to steal it away from the PAC 10. The Big 10 can not take a hit like the ACC got in week 1 with Virginia Tech and Clemson.
The PAC 10 looks to be the favorite for the last BCS at large even if Ohio State wins, as they have ASU and Oregon both hovering in the needed range rather than just Wisconsin. Two hopes are better than one.
Man its going to be fun watching the BCS teams beat each other out of the rankings this year!

1. Bleed Crimson, I am with you on the SEC thing bro, I promise. But your over the top SEC homerism is even a little too much for me. I can't imagine how these other bloggers must be sick of it. Keep it up though cause you are probably correct about it and it cracks me up how you turn every thread into a Bamathon and "SEC rules" arguement. Here is an idea: From now on, you are only allowed to post under the 10 reasons that Bama is back thread though.
2. I missed the window to make my picks. I swear I thought we had until 8 PM tonight for some reason. What a dumbass! That really bites! Only one that I really care about getting right this week anyway.
GO DAWGS!!
oh, well, my picks were horrible anyway.
It got bumped up because of the Kansas South Florida game tomorrow night.
Man. Sorry guys, I should been on that in my reminder.
I usually make my picks at the start of the week and check back towards the end to see if I need to make changes. That also covers me if I forget about it, at least I got something.
They love stirring it up with the Chris Wells scenario. I don't think OSU wins even if he plays. I don't think OSU has the O to outscore USC in this game. With the offensive firepower they have, the way to beat them is to get one or two stops and out score them. I say 35-14 USC.
page?" Could you please elaborate Ben? What does that mean exactly? I respond to what is
already there. I check out these comments like once a week or so. Once a guy named royce
even got upset because I said Wisconsin was in the Big 12. RELAX EVERYBODY....so I got
it wrong....life goes on. If you are so into football and know EVERYTHING abouit it then you
should be coaching. Not just putting your feeble two cents worth like me and everybody else here!
So lets get it straight, so that there are no more questions. I attended Fresno State. Long before that....I was already a fan of ALL things Fresno State. Be it Baseball, Football, Cheerleading and Golf. That's my choice as an American. You don't have to like it....just accept it. Go 'Dogs....win the WAC
Where ya' been bud? I was expecting some serious smack from you after your big win against Rutgers.
Good luck v. Wisc'y. Are you going to the game?
GO GATORS!!
Your team needs a voice in these halls. I expect to here from you after this weekend. We took care of Michigan, now you can finish off the Big 10!
However gave USC a 10 1/2 point difference over tOSU is putting a lot of pressure on the Trojans. Don't get me wrong, USC is good, but at the beginning of the season the Trojans were ranked lower than OSU. Granted these rankings mean pretty much nothing since neither of the teams had seen game time yet, but a lot of time and research goes into the preseason polls. Not so much the season polls (pretty much based on who they beat and by how many, and how they look doing it).
Beanie will play! Let's sit on this for a second...Beanie played with a bum ankle and a busted wrist last season and played just fine. And now he is "out" for a "hurt foot"?? Honestly I believe Tressel and the boys are playing a serious psychological game with this one. For the past two weeks, no one has diagnosed him with an actual legit injury. All we've gotten is a "hurt foot" storyline. If they really didn't know what the injury was, there is no way he would be practicing due to the fact that they wouldn't know what any pressure would do to it. I'm not saying he isn't hurt or was hurt, but i think they are weeding it out so he is back full throttle for the game this weekend.
One thing I do see tOSU having on the Trojans is a dual back-field threat. Terelle Pryor and Beanie Wells. If we do see Beanie this weekend (hopefully we do so they is no excuses from tOSU as far as them not being 100%), and we do get to see Pryor take some snaps, we are watching two incredible atheletes as far as speed and agility. Beanie is hard to contain to a few yards as is and with Pryor helping, that is a pretty big threat. Now will we see this duo? Probably not. I don't see Tressel putting Pryor in an intense game such as this with a lot of pressure from the USC line. But I do beleive that is something that can give tOSU that little edge if needed when it comes to the ground game. And with the Trojans having a bye week, can they come out a little soft falling behind early in the game due to Sanchez not seeing any pressure through the weekend? This is a 50/50 subject. They could be more prepared or a little tight from the off time.
USC does have their threats as well. Heisman candidate, Sanchez, isn't a candidate because he looks good in uniform; it's because he a well-rounded QB. He can read his options well as well as his opponents defense before snap. He can pass well outside the pocket and is not afraid to scramble away from protection if need be. He is a huge asset to the Trojans this game. And let's not forget the home field. Trojans record on home turf is rather impressive along with their record against Big Ten teams. Numbers are just numbers though and the past is said and done. Any team can lose on any given night. Records are meant to be broken. But can tOSU break this one on Saturday?
Now as for the game! Both teams are throwing a lot of talent on the field; James Laurinaitas and Marcus Freeman vs. Ray Maualuga and Brian Cushing, Sanchez vs. Boeckman, hell even down to the coaches, Tressel vs. Carroll. Ohio State is returning many (18?) starters and only loss one to the NFL draft. USC is only returning 12 starters. tOSU is out for blood and is looking to prove a lot on the field. I think USC got the wrong impression from tOSU performance against Ohio last week (granted they did not play like the OSU we've seen before). The Trojans may have the impression that they are going to be playing a team that has fallen apart since Beanie left. The Trojans can not let their guard down. Which could be a mistake on the Trojans behalf. Both teams need to bring their A+ games and give it their all every play of the game if either team wants to walk away with a win.
Personally, I believe a BIG factor of the game is gonna come down to penalty yards (as does every game). If you look at the stats (and since I am bored as hell I looked a few up), tOSU has the upper hand in this factor. USC leads their conference in penalty yards thus far. Big runs and passes can easily be drawn back for a flag leading to some tired linemen and receivers.
As for the whole one loss and still seeing tOSU in the NC, I don't see it coming down to that this year. We are watching a lot of good teams this year playing tremendous football and pushing for an appearance in the NC. Georgia, Florida, USC, Oklahoma, etc. And there are a few teams out there that no one saw performing the way they are. Still too early to predict much of anything as far as a NC turnout.
I'll wrap it up here...both teams have got everything they need to win. They just need to utilize what they have and be able to look to each other when they are in tight spots. Both defenses are going to have to be aware of who is covering who in the deep secondary and both offenses need to ensure turnovers (if any) are kept to a bare minimum.
All in all, this proves to be a great game if both teams are 100% and play the game with all they have. I would predict it but they are just so many factors to consider when deciding this one. Although I am a Buckeye fan (if you can't tell this blog kinda went that way), USC is an amazing team this year. As much as I'd love to the see the Buckeyes pull this one, the Trojans are a damn good contender to yank it away from us. Good luck to both teams!!
i know the feeling you get before a big game.
but chill.
OSU is a joke.
USC will win comfortably.
i thought you were a trojan fan.
Coming from a Bammer fan, that must mean something because...you're an expert on mediocrity. Ooops...did I say that? Uhhhh yeah. I guess I did. :-)
Good Luck Tom. I'll be pulling for your boys.

Geaux SEC
Thanks, bro. The Bucks are going to need all the help they can get tomorrow night!
Seriously though, nice essay.
Good luck Saturday night.
I remember when I first got here, the 2nd week last year. I really found a haven from the idiots. I remember OU-RON, War Eagle, Lennie, Tom Blogical, GatorHippie, TE. and a few others talking football, X's and O's. Defenses versus the spread, how running backs were doing, who was injured, who was playing with a chip on their shoulders.
Now it seems that this is becoming just another SEC fanpage. Noone talks about why their team is a contender, it's just "you suck",
I can get the same stuff from the SI or ESPN forums. I just got spoiled by the people that were on here, got spoiled by the fact that we talked about what is going on in the games, not putting each other down.
I wondered why some of those guys haven't been around much this year, and now I know why.
Kevin, Ben, and WEA try to start threads that will stimulate discussion, but each and every time it ends up with "SEC is the best, you are a Joke". I wish most of you guys would just go away so we could talk football again.
Unfortunately, if ESPN does another "best CFB blog" program, I bet this site drops off the list.
dont try to act all high and mighty.
you did a good bit of "putting people down" up there with that anti-sec rant.
id be happy to get back to Xs and Os.
im on adderall, with nothing to do but get the last word.
sorry. i know im polluting the blog right now.
You must have the same problem I have. I can't ever get to sleep before 1:00am, no matter how tired I am. I used over the counter stuff, but I didn't care for the side effects.
L8r.
If you're a Bama fan, talk about Bama
You're not polluting...Say what you want to say. I would just rather that you support your team instead of putting everyone else down.
Just a fair warning. Take it or leave it.
by the way i am talking about the Missouri - Nevada game...
MD - Yeah, actually we've got 2 of those as well. They're the lightweights though, and they're USC grads, so I might be taking care of them for a change. Don't worry though, I'll make sure they have their insurance cards on them first.
Okay Hookem-Horns 1-1 vs OSU 9-0-1 vs Bama
I don't know if you read above, but I ranted and raved about the SEC. We haven't been able to talk about any games at all this year, it always turns to the SEC.
How about OU?. They are a great team, but even they take a back seat. It makes me so mad that I want to pull my hair out, and this weekend's game hasn't helped.
I remember one year that I couldn't go to the Michigan game, I had to give my tickets away because I was at OSU hospital with my father after his surgery. We watched the game, and Tim Biakaboogiewoogie or whatever his name is ran all over us. I was freaking out, and my dad said, "What's the big deal, it's only a game. Your grandpa was the same way."
Mayble I let it get to me a little to much. I'm just an alum, I don't play on the team or anything, but I live and breathe scarlet and gray.
And when I hear people say "You suck", and "You are a joke", it pisses me off. They don't say "My team is better", it's just "You suck".
I just wish we could tone it down a little bit and talk football.
Well, I think OU has the same problem tOSU does. They haven't won a big game lately. Until that happens again, they aren't going to be talked about as a serious contender. I don't let it get to me much anymore either. You have to remember that College Football is all based on opinion, unless you're talking about league play or a single football game at the end of the year. It's not like a team has to prove itself against elite competition at year's end a few times as in most sports...it's one game for all the marbles based on a beauty contest. So, based on that one game, or a few big games during the year, the opinion of the nation is shaped. We can't control the outcome of the game (OK, most of us with our budgets can't anyway, LOL!) and we can't control anyone's opinions so...I just let it go and have become a realist.
Ask yourself this question--if someone just says "You suck." or "You're a joke."--is it usually worth it to pursue a conversation with that person and try to convince them otherwise?
OK, that being said, I do have a feeling it's the Sooners year this time around.
I've got a house full of folks from the Freeport/ Galveston area. I came home at 7 am and we drank Jack Daneils and watched a ZZ Top DVD. Everything is looking good from this end. God Bless the folks from the Gulf coast.
Adios Tomcat
Hookem-Horns
P.S. Now that the Ark game has been postponed the Horns have two weeks to prepare for Rice instead of OU
The Horns face Ark,Colo,OU & Missu in consecutive weeks
anyway...look forward to talkin with you all throughtout the season and getting some shit along the way im sure...seems like a bunch of good guys hang out here...look forward to an amazing season of college football with you fellas...until then...
GO BUCKEYES!! (guess i oughta start putting that in now huh?)
I'm pretty sure, Pete Carroll game planned for Wells to play, and if Tressel is smart, and I'm pretty sure he is, I'm sure he took that into consideration......
If I was Tressel, I would save Wells for the rest of the season.......but he will play a big role in this game...... I would use Wells on a different types of plays involving sweeps where he would run out of bounds to save him from being knocked around, preventing further injury........ I would then use Wells on a few play action passes, drawing the linebackers closer into the line, leaving the secondary bare and having them almost play 1 on 1 with the receivers. I don't care how good the secondary is....... college or pro. If you get a receiver 1 on 1 with the safeties or corners, 90% of the time the receiver will always win out.......
Basically Beanie Wells will pretty much play decoy for the most part of the game........ a la Reggie Bush.........
Wait, why am I helping the Buckwheats........
FIGHT ON...................
Think Im going to have to pull for OSU as I dont see USC dropping any along the way but then again, Stanford was the best game last year.
The LSU's and UGa's are just jealous because they scheduled weak opponents and dont have balls like Carrol & Tressel
Above post directed to Tommy Trojan.

Geaux tOSU!
edit: Nevermind. Post deleted due to choice of words used in response to idiot from Southern Cal....
Coach Hill and his staff put in alot of time and effort ....this is a first for us.....a
Big 10 team in Fresno that is......RELEASE THE HOUNDS!!!!
oooops I mean 'DOGS!
Until a team like USC gets dropped to the bottom or out of the polls when they loose a game instead of just two or three spots the conferences like the Big Ten, and the Big East will never get the respect they deserve. I mean who else does USC play besides OS that is worth anything? Yet because of $$$ and the Rose Bowl they never get the recognition they really deserve 00!
Once again your insight is so amazing that I could not get it. Will you please re-post in some form of intellect that can be understood in the western hemisphere? Thanx.
NCAA football parity is for real. If you understand that even numbers of schollys for schools,
means that big money/status schools, can no longer sign a lot of top talent, to ride the bench. Then, you must try to understand that traditional powers, are the ones that will take the hit. That being said, strength of conference will, over time, occasion a major shift of where the top talent will go. It is inevitable. You mark my words, and watch over the next ten years as some of the top left coast talent, starts to enroll in the southeast.
Considering strength of schedule, and parity. A traditionally dominant team, in a weaker conference, must eventually start to lose more often. That sucks for you, EVERYBODY else likes it. Stay with me now, traditional Powerhouses, start to look beatable to everybody else, can I hear an Amen from Appalachian State, AMEN!
This argument to the next level.
.
Arizona State lost UNLV
Oregon won Purdue
California lost Maryland
Stanford lost TCU
Oregon State won Hawaii
Washington lost Oklahoma
Washington State lost Baylor
Arizona lost New Mexico
USC won OSU
UCLA lost BYU
I don't care who you are, that is not a very impressive day.
Have you not forgotten your glorious BCS games?
Maybe just maybe if you stopped running your mouth constantly, playing Div 9 schools (Youngstown St / Troy.. Do they even give degree's??) you MIGHT have karma back down a little. However your "fans" (a.k.a. ohio state felons) who insist on pegging opposing teams with beer bottles, damage to vehicles, physical fights, hitting women, knocking children over and everything else possible, continue to exhibit jail house behavior that does nothing more than to provoke every possible GOD to slap the ***eye's around when it counts the most.
THE OSU is and needs to be fully examined from the top down. Those that support this school should be put on the next plane to Guantanamo Bay.
