Fanblogs.com: The Road to the ACC championship

  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago
Another question looms: Will anyone show up for the championship game?
  • TampaGator · 1 year ago
The game's in Tampa, bubba...they'll have a solid showing almost no matter who gets in...

...and if Miami and FSU make it...forget about it.

b/t/w: I know it's a bit biased, but...Raymond James Stadium is easily one of the best stadiums in the country....my personal favorite, as a matter of fact; comfort, character (pirate ship, cannons...), room to tail gate...it's got it all, and you almost can't help running into people you know--just go to the ship at half-time.

Hell, I might just go, if I can't score tix to the SEC-CG.

I'm a huge fan of Raymond James. It's a shame I won't be going there with my orange clad brethren this season...
  • shiguy · 1 year ago
WTF ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?! Isn't that why the game left Jacksonville because NOBODY shows up! I don't know why they even went with Tampa they should have put all 4 of the next games in Charlotte not just the 2 in 2010-2011. I mean it's great if you live in the city but come on over 84% of the conference is more than 7 hours away! And about 50% are more than 12 hours away. I know it's for the potential Miami Florida st. matchup we keep hearing is going to happen one day but way to shaft the other teams in the conference.
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
Great post! That conference championship was set up for Florida State and Miami to play every year! How many times have they played in it since Miami joined the ACC?
  • shiguy · 1 year ago
    A BIIIIIIIIIIIG WHOOOOOOOOOOPING ZEROOOOOOOOOO!
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
I wonder how the other Big 12 teams would have responded if it was set up for Oklahoma and Texas to play every year?
  • TampaGator · 1 year ago
Tampa isn't J'ville; TB area has a pop of approx 2.5 mil; j'ville I believe is around .7 mil. It may yet be a poor showing, depending on the matchup, and factoring in for brutal ecnomic conditions, but I think most of the more likely combos will result in a near sellout, if not a sell out.

    ...that's WTF.

Well, score us some tickets, TG, and we'll go as neutral observers. I got a place to stay. I was just there last weekend.

We'll go as Notre Dame fans who took a wrong turn off I-75...
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
    Probably not!
  • Kevin @ Fanblogs · 1 year ago
Given that its in Tampa, it will probably pull in 50K. Ticket prices are way down this year, too, so that will help. I would suspect that they are prepared to sell seats for $13 if they have to. It'll look kinda empty, I suspect - unless one of the Florida schools is in it. If FSU gets in, then its a sell out.
  • Zac · 1 year ago
You mean that seriously major money making multi-million dollar ACC championship game they all wanted to have after grabbing 3 teams from the original Big East? Hmmm, I think the teams might show up. If not, definately the stadium staff.
  • Porcine · 1 year ago
How can Maryland hold all the tie-breakers by winning out and BC hold 2 and 3 way tie-breakers by winning out?
  • Kevin @ Fanblogs · 1 year ago
Because they still have to play each other.
  • Porcine · 1 year ago
    Ah.

Miami needs to win out and have UNC lose in order to make the chamionship game.
  • Tyler_Tech · 1 year ago
When I read ACC it sounds like YACKKKKKKK!
  • Zac · 1 year ago
I thought they were hairy, cow-like critters indiginous to the Himalayas.
  • Tyler_Tech · 1 year ago
Ah indeed they are, I have to get all my ACC bashing out of my system. After all, basketball season is just around the corner......
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago
Well, if it helps anyone, I have tickets for next Thursday night's GA Tech-Miami game and will go to root for North Avenue Trade College.

Ooooh! I feel like TE name-dropping like that...

    ZING!

NC hold the tie breaker over Miami, head to head. The ACC title game should go between Orlando and Tampa. Charlotte is a nice city, but most people would rather be in Florida the 1st week of December.
  • MIAMI_IS_BACK · 1 year ago
i hope miami wins out and unc loses

I think Raymond James is great, but I'm a Buccaneers fan, so I could be biased.

For those complaining about having the championship game in Tampa, I believe most bowl games are held in southern states simply because of the weather. It is the same thing in the NFL. The super bowl is typically in a southern stadium unless they choose a dome.
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
Charlotte is in a southern state, and that's where this game should be played every year.
  • Jason · 1 year ago
Charlotte is where it belongs now and forever and cold weather is what football is all about. Charlotte is in the heart of ACC country the florida teams are the outcasts. They are good but lets have a game played closer to where the majority of the conference is not where we hope to see this big interstate matchup.
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
Especially when that "big interstate matchup" (FSU/Miami) happens once every year anyway.

Put the game permanently in Charlotte. When this game is played there, the ACC will see tremendous ticket sales.
  • NMLSooner · 1 year ago
These are nice scenarios, but who really thinks ANYONE in the ACC is going to win out! Win out scenarios in the ACC will only work the last week of the season!
  • FSU_fan · 1 year ago
Virginia Tech - Win out or lose to Miami & one Miami loss If VT loses to Miami and Miami takes a loss it will be UNC that goes to the championship game (UNC will only have 2 losses to three). Miami doesn't really need to lose, if they win tonight it becomes UNC's game to lose.
  • NCAA_BOSS · 1 year ago
Miami looked decent against a good VA Tech team last nite. Tho the game was more of a defensive duel they impressed me. I think we have to realize that the ACC champ will be out of Florida this year.
  • shiguy · 1 year ago
WTF are you smoking? Miami improved but I don't think that anyone has any room to clearly say that the ACC champ is going to come from florida. I'm still calling Maryland over Florida St. next week.

Wait a min that was entirely too much to put into that......

If Maryland beats FSU (assuming FSU will not have suspended every starter), it is high time we start talking about firing coaches again. Something is seriously wrong if you lose to such low talent teams as Wake, GT, and Maryland in the same season. Once is a fluke, twice perhaps forgiveable given the youth of the team, three times and you sack a coach. Period. It would be like WVU losing to Colorado, ECU, and Cincinatti. Something is wrong with the coaching when you are losing large amounts of the games you should be winning, even if two were in overtime, give stewart one more year to right the ship and then toss him overboard.
  • Zac · 1 year ago
"It would be like WVU losing to Colorado, ECU..."

Gotta disagree with you there. But, then, I don't have the expectation that the team win the conference and a NC every year. I also believe in giving coaches a fair shake. Robinson, Wannstedt, & Willingham all got a fair shake. They didn't produce; it's time to start over. How long has Fisher been with FSU now? Given FSU's improvement over the last couple of years, that's got to be worth another couple of years. Finally, I see no shame in loosing to Cinci, CO, or ECU. So long as the team is playing hard with a no-quit attitude, and they still lose, one should not complain, especially if it's a new HC, OC, and a passel of other new supporting staff in their 1st year. Ya gotta give em a fair chance. JMO.

    Thanks Maryland!!!!!!!!!!
  • Chuck · 1 year ago
The best place to have it the game would be in ATL. Granted the would give the Jacketes an absurd homefield advantage if they made it. Or, how about the ACC invade DAWG Country.
