Fanblogs Open Conference Championship Thread
One coach is improving his team, the other is destroying his team. Record alone doesn't tell the whole story. There are trends involved that can shed more light on a record.
Along the same lines, why don't you include Tommy Tuberville's record his last year at Auburn? It wouldn't really be fair would it?
But if we were doing a list of worst one season coaching jobs this century, Tubs' performance last year would be near the top of my list.
But you do have a valid point about Weiss and Saban.
My point with the article still stands though. A record doesn't tell the whole story.
If you follow the logic of the statement in the article -
"Bill Doba? Sylvester Croom? Come on, these two guys worked miracles to keep the towns of Pullman and Starkville competitive. You don't see many big names lining up to take those jobs."
(i.e., low profile schools have a harder time recruiting and competing, therefore their coaches should be cut some slack)
Then you must also agree that coaches at a high profile university like Notre Dame should produce year after year. Weis has not and therefore should be on the list.
Mike Sherman ??-A&M after one horrible year too early to say-
Bobby Petrino ?? Ditto they beat LSU- do What?
any predictions Arkansas vs Texas A&M ?? somebody has to win- Hogs I guess
George O'Leary's record as HC: 78 - 69
George O'Leary's record as HC with Ralph Friedgen as OC: 34 - 14
George O'Leary's record as HC w/o Ralph Friedgen as OC: 44 - 55
(i.e. I'm more impressed by Ralph Friedgen than George O'Leary)
:-)
Here are some overall coaching records of some of the men mentioned.
George OLeary 78-69 .53
Mike Price 159-152 .51
Dave Wannstedt .52
Charlie Weiss .58
Houston Nutt .61
Dennis Francione 173-97 .64
Les Miles 70-32 .68
Nick Saban 111=50 .68
Now the real kicker
Bobby Petrino 46-16 .74
Phil Fulmer 152-52 .74
The Ex Tenn coach has one of the best coaching records
Heck even Paul Bryant one of the top of all time .78
All these guys have winning records
Another thing to consider is the number of years coaching
Guys like Weis are just getting started and others have coached hundreds of games
And who can forget all the super awesome bowls they went to...
The Smurf Turf of Boise... the baseball stadiums of San Fran & Seattle... the Smurf Turf again... Jackson-vile and a game in the Citrus Bowl 12 days before New Year's...
his posts are really stupid
There are no Rookies in CFB- only freshman
Texas did play in a BCS game-the Fiesta
This numskull is probably either an Aggie or a Yankee
This Yankin dude is probably Spanish, because he said bleed orange-burnt instead of bleed burnt orange- I eagerly await his return to our forum
Hookem-Horns
:-)
3+3+3=9 7+3=10 purty simple math poor Aggies
Many, MANY thanks to Walter Lewis for calling Bowden a "racist" during his interview... (the story goes than Bowden was asked by Lewis if he would play a black QB over a white QB if they were equally talented, Bowden refused to answer, Lewis called him a racist, Bowden got up and walked out)...
We were saved multiple years of 10 win seasons and top 5 finishes... along with the probation and dozens of half-wit thugs getting arrested and not going to class and getting us on probation... wait, that last part happened anyway...
Zac, you have a good point
