Fanblogs.com: Tigers interview Oklahoma DC Brent Venables

  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
Oklahoma is the team everyone loves to hate...but when it comes to hiring the coaching staff? They catch the vapors!
  • TRIPPA06 · 1 year ago
This is a great cover for the fact that he was actually interviewing Stoops. Go get em' TDP!
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
You haven't seen such a battle since Custer at the Little Big Horn...;-)
  • TRIPPA06 · 1 year ago
    I was being facetious haha
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago
Tweeet! We have logo enroachment on the orange. Looks just like Clemson Joe's. Five yard penalty. Change the Tiger Paw, repeat the comments!
  • TRIPPA06 · 1 year ago
    Is this better?
  • USC1801 · 1 year ago
Much easier to tell you all apart. Thanks!
  • Zac · 1 year ago
Oh, you know those orange tigers; they all look alike to me.
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
Hey War Eagle Atlanta let him make it! It's an alright picture!
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
I have to admit that I don't know a lot about this guy. I'd like to see some sort of a record of his recruiting successes.

Also, I thought that Gary Patterson was a virtual lock for the Kansas State job. Is that not the case?
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
I don't want to lose either, but if one has to be hired, I would rather it be Venables, Wilson is a great OC....
  • TRIPPA06 · 1 year ago
That is pretty raw that Wilson said he wants to interview as well
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
Where/when did he say that? Can you back that up?
  • TRIPPA06 · 1 year ago
    Last sentence of Donahue's article....
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
Ah, I read the soonerscoop.com article incorrectly. He said that he denied any involvement, and I thought that he denied wanting any involvement as well.

    Mea culpa.
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
I'm sure he wants to be a HC somewhere, he said it after practice yesterday, Stoops has told all of his assistants that they're free to talk to any school looking !!
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
From what my limited research turned up, Venables is by far the better recruiter, but Wilson is the more effective coach. Would you say that is correct?
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
    Probably Venables !
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
Also, who are some of the former Stoops' coordinators to go on to become HCs? I know Mike Stoops, but who else?
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
Mangino and Leach come to mind
  • Porcine · 1 year ago
    Sumlin.
  • Jason · 1 year ago
    Chuck Long
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago
I'm hearing rumours that Stoops' wife was out house-looking with a realtor in Anderson...
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
    Oh now don't start that...
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
Where the hell is Anderson ;-)
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago
    Uh, Danny Ford, circa 1978?
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
20 min. from Clemson, and there's really no reason to know that or remember it. Although, Bowden lives (lived?) on Lake Keowee just outside of the city of Clemson, and I'd imagine that the next coach will do the same.

    Lake Keowee > Hartwell Lake
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
Oklahoma is now on the one when it comes to developing coaches!
  • USC1801 · 1 year ago
Lennie - The SEC will let you all develop coaches, we'll just develop PLAYERS!!! (haaaahaaa, I'm messing with you!)

Actually, given the success of Stoops, it is no surprise that his coaches are sought after. Success breeds success, and Clemson is just trying ot latch onto some of it.
  • TigerEducated · 1 year ago
    We don't develop coaches? Hmmm...

Wasn't Bob Stoops Spurrier's Defensive Coordinator back in 1996? LOL!

    Let's take a look...

    LSU

Jimbo Fisher - future head coach at FSU
Derek Dooley - Current HC/AD @ Louisiana Tech
Bo Pelini - Current HC @ Nebraska
Will Muschamp - Currently about a year away from a gig, himself...
    Phil Bennett - Well...nevermind...LOL...
Mack Brown - Former LSU Offensive Coordinator (LOL!)

    Florida

    Buddy Teevens...Umm...Nevermind...LOL!
    Ron Zook...Umm...Nevermind...LOL!
Bob Stoops - Who begat Mark, Mangino, Pelini, & now Venables...

    Tennessee

    Joker Phillips
    David Cutcliffe
  • Wardboy3 · 1 year ago
I am curious what your method is for "developing" coaches. True, all those listed spent time at said schools but all spent time elsewhere also and some left said school & went elsewhere before getting HC gig. I'm confused. Are you claiming them as LSU just b/c they spent some time there?
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
Actually you said it best. Most assiastant coaches stay at one place for 2 or 3 years and move on. I am in no way saying only Oklahoma develop coaches! Crimson & Cream True!
  • OU_Fan · 1 year ago
Interesting post, I don't know if anyone else is claiming that OU is the only school producing coaches because if so thats not correct. However, it is a fact that several recent Div 1-A coaches have worked under Stoops. But if we look at the whole picture, coaches come from everywhere. As to your post, Mack Brown- was an offensive coordinator at as OU as well, and Les Miles- OSU.
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
Robert Stoops started out under Bill Synder of Kansas State before going to Florida!
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
I develop nothing. I am watching the games just like you. There are assistant coaches from all conferences that are waiting for the chance to be head coaches.
  • TampaGator · 1 year ago
Why would anyone want to hire a DEFENSIVE coordinator from the Big XII?

    GO GATORS!!
  • "BC" · 1 year ago
    my thoughts exactly.
if you're gonna hire a coordinator to turn things around at a program with super-high expectations, he better damn well be the best coordinator in the country.
either hire Will Muschamp or a proven HC. if you don't, you'll be disappointed as a Clemson fan.
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
I thought you said we play no defense? BC
Puzzled- If LSU had a little better QB they should have won that game, three turnovers and the QB wasnt hitting nothing and still had yall on the ropes till the final INT.
  • TigerEducated · 1 year ago
Prepare for 16 posts from Alabama fans jumping into this thread, rife with syntax & grammar errors, subject & verb agreement issues, past & present tense issues, and all manner of excuses about how they "played a bad game".

They got 4 turnovers, had 100+ yards receiving out of their WR, 100+ yards rushing out of their #1 RB, and even got a Pick 6...As well as multiple scores off the other turnovers we gave them as a team.

But, like I said...That doesn't matter...We were lucky they didn't beat us by 60 touchdowns...

I can't wait for Star Jackson next year...and then an AJ McCarron/Star Jackson QB derby...

Nick Saban's history of developing quarterbacks is abysmal, at best...

But, they won, we lost...Let them have their cake and eat it, too...
  • "BC" · 1 year ago
    haha.
come on TE. you know coach Saban has nothing to do with developing QBs. the only position he specifically helps to develop is DB.
the rest of his coaching is Xs and Os, teaching mental toughness, recruiting, and managing the game.
the QB coach is the one responsible for teaching the QB proper mechanics, and the proper way to go through progressions, etc.
we currently have Jim McElwain, and you may not know, but JPW is a COMPLETELY different QB this year than he's been the past 2 years. McElwain did the same thing at Fresno St. last season. Jim McElwain is a renowned QB doctor. he will make every QB better that comes through the system.

As for the game, Tomcat is right, if y'all had a "little" bit better of a QB, then you might have won the game.
but that same QB won y'all games against Auburn, and (trying to think of other big wins for LSU......) South Carolina.
so might it have been something Alabama's defense did that made him a "little" less effective?
Come to think of it, if we had a "little" bit better QB, we might have our first Heisman winner, and be favored against Florida next month...
and can you imagine if we had a "little" bit better of a QB last year?
y'all wouldn't have been National Champions...
  • TigerEducated · 1 year ago
LOL...You don't know Nick Saban, BC...

Didn't have a hand in the quarterback positions...LOL...

BC, y'know...You should think before you post...He was our coach for five years...You're not even through your 2nd full season with him.

I know this guy far, far better than you do...I'm not making things up-that's your forte. I'm going off of my experience with him as my head coach. You know, the one where he sat a 1st team All-SEC quarterback in Rohan Davey in favor of Josh Booty his 1st year here?

How he shuffled QB's in 2004 before splitting for Miami...Starting JaMarcus on the road at the Swamp (GREAT decision, that was, LOL), and almost getting us beat because of it. Pulling Marcus Randall after a 15 play touchdown drive to open up the Auburn game at Auburn, which one could only describe in a manner fitting Sherman's March to Atlanta...

You know not of what you speak, but, then again, that's never stopped you before...Spout off about your great knowledge of a first year quarterback coach-whose operating in a system completely unlike anything Coach Mac's run before-with a 3 year starter whose never been a world beater-your admission, not mine.

15/31, with a pick, a score, and a sneak for a score in OT...Against "our" defense...We hit him 3 times all game, and you had a guy go over 100 yards receiving against us...and he completed 48% against us...

Yeah, I'll say he's come light years...

Your post is rife with references like "imagine if", or "you woldn't have been". You spend most of your time in hypotheticals, which is quite telling. I can't take our third loss off the books. You can't take our National Title & win lat year off the record, either.

But, go ahead and keep playing the "what if" game. I prefer a place called reality...Where you'll be pretty soon this season, and most DECIDEDLY next year [giggle].

    Congrats, BC...
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago
You know what Sherman's job description was before the war, don't you?
  • "BC" · 1 year ago
    hahaha come on man!
your rebuttals used to be so much better.
now about 80% of it is just BS/personal attacks/telling me i don't know what i'm taking about, without offering factual evidence to prove i'm wrong.
    you're getting lazy.

so sorting through all of the "fluff," what did you really say?
    - our QB hasn't made significant improvements from last year
    - coach Nick Saban wasn't good at deciding on the starting QB while at LSU
    - don't play the "what ifs" game...
    - i "know" Nick Saban better than you do.

what did that have to do with anything i said?
    i said:
    - Nick Saban doesn't work hands-on with QBs - TRUE
    - JPW has made significant strides from his JR to SR year - TRUE
    - and the whole topic of the original conversation was: LSU would've won if they had a "little" bit better of a QB.
this statement was made by Tomcat, to which, you supported by offering your preemptive defense against Alabama fans such as myself.
i was merely playing right along in offering my own "what if" scenarios.

and if you don't think JPW has improved, why don't you go back and look at how he played last year as opposed to this year.
Then go look how much the Fresno St. QB improved under 1 year of McElwain.
then, AFTER you've done the research, come tell me that:
    1. Jim McElwain isn't a great QB coach
    2. JPW hasn't benefited significantly from McElwain's coaching.

    P.S. LSU lost to Alabama.
  • TigerEducated · 1 year ago
Dude...I never said he works hands on with them...Can you show me where I did? See, this is the part where you're trying your damndest to create an angle I'm coming from so that you can defeat it...

It's called a straw-man argument, BC, and the dog won't hunt...As I said, you're making something up that I haven't said-which you are wont to do-so that you can argue, essentially with yourself, but you hope to make folks think I've said what you're making up...

I'm saying that Nick Saban controls EVERYTHING about his team...You don't think he ORDERED Jimbo to pull the finger off the trigger while in Baton Rouge? He did the same thing against Georgia in the 2nd half...He is heavily involved in all aspects of his team, and he controls who goes in and out of the game in many situations.

Jimbo wanted to leave Marcus Randall in at Auburn in 2004, but the problem was, the script was for him to run the 1st 15 plays, and then insert JaMarcus...

Most anyone in the Stadium would've told you that you'd be crazy to pull him after that, but Saban went with his script, ignoring emotion and feel and instinct, and went with his list...and it cost him the game. PERIOD.

This is what I mean, and this is what I still see with many of his decisions.

So, Saban DOES jerk around the decision making with respect to the quarterback situation, and it produces negative results.

So, now that I've cleared that up, and clarified myself on a point that was already excessively clear, I'm going to leave the rest of it, because I don't have the energy or the time to get caught up in your Clintonian misconstruing of every single one of my points into something its not, just so you can basically argue something that's not there...

You've gone from a somewhat humorous buzzing little fly to an annoying, alarmingly redundant broken record. Your act is quickly typecasting you.

Do yourself a favor...Have fun responding from here on out...You & I are through...

Saying you're right over and over again doesn't make it so...It really just sort've makes people ignore you...

(Insert pithy comeback below, since I've already given you permission to get the last word, Ringo)
  • "BC" · 1 year ago
first off, joey fatone, i always get the last word.
secondly, i can't believe that you're going to ignore me from now on. don't even try to act like you're just so intellectually above me that we can't argue. you may be a better writer, but i can still hang in there with you blow for blow.
it seems as though that star by your name has gone straight to that gel-encrusted dome of yours.

now about what you said, that i said, that you said:

"what did that have to do with anything i said?
    i said:
    - Nick Saban doesn't work hands-on with QBs - TRUE"

i never said you said Nick Saban was hands-on with QBs.
    i said i said that.

Hey BC and TE Kinda funny about the what if's ETC
now I know this aint really the place but check this out
lets just imagine that OU beats TTech and Fla beats Bama
I know these games havent been played and anything can happen- but what if?? our president elect favors 8 team playoff
    Fla 1 loss
    Tex 1 loss
    OU 1 loss
    Bama 1 loss
    PSU 1 loss
    TTech 1 loss
    USC 1 loss
    Utah 0 loss
I know this is all hypothetical- but what if?
    Your thoughts
BTW If I have offended anybody on here please accept my apologies

this here Tomcat, will be what they call a BCS mess.
but of course. we all know what should happen.

SEC champ vs. Big XII champ

    it's only right.
  • RammerJammer · 1 year ago
    Tomcat
...and if Texas would have played the first half, they wouldn't have lost to Tech. See where I'm going with this?

  • Tyler_Tech · 1 year ago
I keep hearing this argument that if Texas played better in the first half. Tech is #1 in overall defense in the big 12. Now does that mean anything, I guess we will know come bowl time. Do any of you remember when we did not score on 6 STRAIGHT POSESSIONS!!!! I would say we should have throttled texas with the way we played against OK state. It comes down to one play though! Maybe if your DBs would have done a few more military presses in the weight room, they could have tackled crabtree and the game would have been over, but that did not happen........
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
I saw them play a complete game that Texas D was out there against the #1 offense in the country for almost the entire first half. They actually did an outstanding job and The Texas Tech D held Texas to 33 points like half of the season scoring average and held the Texas offense to feild goals during the first half- I actually saw a lot of defense in that game and two high powered offeneses as well
  • "BC" · 1 year ago
you don't play defense because you don't have the athletes.
and because this is y'alls first year in the Muschamp system. it's pretty complicated and usually takes a couple of years to see it dominate. it's the same system Saban runs.
Will Muschamp is the best DC in the country, and y'all are damn lucky to have him. It really will hurt y'all if he decides to take a HC job for next year.
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
BC I totally disagree with you man- Texas always does real well on the recruiting trail year after year and coach Mad Dog does an excellent job in the weight room. Yall just havent faced the offensive powerhouses that do exist, kinda have to agree with the Texas Tech fan- we will all know more come bowl time
    Hookem-Horns
  • "BC" · 1 year ago
haha well of course you would. i just put down your defense.

    but c'mon tomcat.
don't try to tell me there are any good defenses in the big 12.
    i watch the games!
i see what everyone else does:
    zero pass rush
    zero pass coverage

no wonder the average QB is completing 80% of his passes, and throwing for 600 yds. a game.

i was thinking about this yesterday.
everyone knows the SEC has better defenses than the Big XII.
everyone knows the Big XII has better QBs than the SEC.
but how can you prove the Big XII has better offenses?
    really?
is it because of how many points they score?
that has to due with style of offense.
really, in the SEC vs. Big XII debate, you're debating spread offenses vs. pro-style.
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
Hey BC I'm not argueing or debating, which in itself is purty funny, we have reached a consensus agreement, here in south central Texas- OU,UT,TTech,OK st,Missu etc etc have not faced the mighty defenses of the SEC yet, although they may and I'm hopeful that they do. How you gonna defend against the spread ? send in some more to pressure the QB, try to man up on WR's??
Whats really funny is that in your post you mentioned average QB's- thing is that the average QB in this league is actually hitting his receivers and they are all bad-ss QB's
I really felt sorry for LSU fans and was watching the game. We have a H/S freshman QB right here that can hit his WR's better than some Div-1-A starters-that Ive seen. BTW he led his team to a 0-10 record. Thats right- never won a game, but he can hit his receivers- this is Texas football- wide open pass crazy high scoring exciting stuff, not the old 5 yds- cloud of dust time of game we grew up with-the spread rules- speed kills- how you gonna slow it down much less stop it ?
BTW I'm gonna watch a pro-syle offense tommorrow- it aint working to good for Texas A&M
    Hookem-Horns
    Sicem-Bears
    Go Owls
  • "BC" · 1 year ago
haha. i'm tellin you man. spread offenses are ruining football.
why dont they run the spread in the NFL?
if it's so great, why don't they?
    I KNOW! PICK ME!
it's because the defenses are too damn fast/good for it to work. and NFL teams build their defenses with players from the S. E. C.......
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
BC on the contrary the spread is awesome and its the cutting edge, learn to think outside the box- this aint NFL this is CFB the last pure American sport- NFL sux- two feet down, the rules favor the offenses-why? because its kinda boring- In The B-12 the teams have learned to score points- scoring points wins games
Cant wait to see a Texas vs Bama or Texas vs LSU game- how you gonna stop them?
Yall got a great D no doubt, but you couldnt outscore the Horns- your a young guy-learn to adapt and embrace cutting edge change.
That pro-style game sh-t dont work ask Nebraska or Texas A&M- these spread teams are kiling them and yes they have great traditions and recruiting, but they cant hang
    Hookem-Horns
Did you change your picture ?
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
Hey BC read your profile- what kind of guitar do ya play? My son plays alot of classic rock, got a Les Paul Gibson bout a year ago, he also has a used Jap Fender strat- we rock over here
    Hookem
  • "BC" · 1 year ago
my arsenal consists of a taylor acoustic, fender strat, and a gibson les paul.
right now im into playing acoustic stuff like citizen cope, jack johnson, jason mraz, etc. and the bluesss. and the beatles.
but i really like writing my own stuff.
like the poem i wrote in response to TE's in that one thread haha.
even though that only took about 60 seconds to come up with...
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
BC cool man -alright, my boy has a fender acoustic and started on a used cracked squier strat, but the Les Paul is what he is always on, used to be alot of AC/DC, Judus Preist,Black Sabbath, but now he's been learning some Leslie West, Rick Derringer and Dire Straits.
He really likes John Forgerty and Jimmy Page-its really purty neat that he picks up all kinds of stuff, mostly old rock
He sat in with a local Tejano band one night and did some outrages Blue Oyster Cult and Santana- hes really taken to it.
Keep up with what your doing- man sounds good
BTW Ive always loved the blues seen Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy, Gatemouth Brown, Stevie Ray & ZZ Top

I wonder if $ has anything to do with the fact Clemson is going after a DC instead of a HC.

Allegedly we are prepared to offer $3 Million/year for a new coach. So, I don't think that rules out many people at all.

Word around the campfire is that the guy whose recruiting 5-Star All-World Defensive Tackle JaMarcus MkFarland out of Texas for the Longhorns has secretly admitted to him that if Venables is gone, he's going to be moving-though he wouldn't say whether to OU or with Venables (though I'm sure its with Venables)...Which means we have a muuuuuuuuuuch better shot at signing him now...

    Sweet!

Best HS DT in America = Heavy Lean to LSU
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
I know who McFarland is, are you saying that Muschump will be moving to Clemson with Venables, ( that is if Venables moves on ) ??
  • TigerEducated · 1 year ago
Muschamp isn't recruiting McFarland, that I'm aware of...Though I could be mistaken...
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
There's a few too many unclear pronouns in that original statement for me to be sure of what you're saying. The way it was said (and I think OU_Ron read it the same way) is that if Venables leaves, then this McFarland kid is going with him wherever he goes. Is that not what you meant?

Edit: I reread it a few times and now I think I understand what you're trying to say. So the guy who is the recruiter of this kid for UT will be moving if Venables goes. So who is the recruiter? Is it not Muschamp?
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
Well since Muschump is the DC for Texas, I hope you can see why I thought it might be he........It's not like you're real clear with that post ;-)
  • Zac · 1 year ago
Speaking of DC's, and given this year it looks as if OK has resigned itself to simply outscoring their opponents, is Venables that big a loss?
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
Zac, I guess you go with what you do best, and that's offense....although, I think OU's defense is rated best in the Big 12.....so " is Venables that big a loss "...I guess that depends on who they replace him with...

5 stars and an LSU lean?
wow. i guess that bama homer must've been fired...
  • TigerEducated · 1 year ago
No, he's still working...he's the one that made an 160 pound AJ McCarron a 5-Star...

Just kidding...I am pretty close to a guy who is very close family friends with the McCarron's...He's a great kid as far as what I hear, but you guys have to put some weight on him. At least you know he's mobile though...I hear he's been running for his life all year behind an inconsistent-at best-Offensive Line...
  • "BC" · 1 year ago
well on rivals.com AJ's still a 4-star, but he looks really good on film.
I think he'll come in and redshirt his freshman year to bulk up a little bit.
but i mean, he is 6' 4", and i think he's at around 180 now so we'll see.
he may surprise some people and challenge for PT immediately.
  • TigerEducated · 1 year ago
AJ's parents were approached by the Rival's guy-who used to do recruiting at FSU & out West, if I'm not mistaken, before-at a game a few weeks ago, and he was told if he'd commit to a certain post-season "All-American" type game, he'd be given a 5th star...

It's sort've the same way that Barkley lost the #1 ranking on ESPN.com to Russel Shepard-who is recruiting for us every other weekend on unofficials-just after Russ committed to a few post-season games certain services put on...

You can't base your estimation on those sorts of things. They're mile-markers, but they're far from inexact sciences.

I prefer Scout.com, to be honest, but at the top, you're splitting hairs. AJ will be a great QB, but if you think a RS Freshman and/or a True Freshman is going to excel on offense behind a rebuilding line & a new system...Wow...You must not watched Jarret Lee this season behind a potential 1st round RB in Chuck Scott, 1st day WR's in LaFell & Byrd, and with a line full of 1st rounders on its left side...

You can't just run off tackle all day, BC...Your QB has GOT to make plays...and inexperience is a killer...Ask an LSU Fan...

In other words...The LAST surprise you want to hope for is AJ coming in and playing immediately. Star will be-next year-just as highly ranked, with just as much experience, as Lee was for us going into this year...

    Be afraid...VERY afraid...

TE, word around our campfire is a little different than your's.....from what we heard this morning, I would say you can back off your % to where it was for signing JM.....I think we're still in the drivers seat...

I hope if he gets hired, Oklahoma and Climpson can schedule a home & home series!

Your last 2 responses to me:
    "Chump"
    "Ewww"

Now you're back to misusing the name of my alma mater.

Grow up, and move on, Lennie.

How about don't respond to me! I like that spelling better! CLIMPSON!

    Lennie:

Virtually every single time you post anywhere on this site, it is an open invitation to any reader to reply.

Hence if you really don't want to field any replies....don't post at all.

Otherwise, be prepared to man your posts (pun intended).

    GO GATORS!!

I have no problem with that! Read the posts! When others make fun of Oklahoma by calling them Chokaloma others can laugh BUT if I make fun of Clemson I have cross the line. When others bring up race it is to make a point BUT when I bring it up I am a racist! I am still posting!

My point is that I wasn't responding to you or talking to you in any way when you responded with "chump" or "ewww". So basically, while I was trying to have conversations not involving you with other people, you decide to chime in and let me know that you think I'm stupid. Well thank you so much.

You are worthless, Lennie. Typically I try to refrain from making personal statements, but you are much more deserving than anyone I can think of. Half of your comments on this site are abrasive and childish. I'm done with you and I've been done with you. Refrain from responding to me and we'll have much less of a problem.
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
Yes sir, Climpson Joe! I feel the same way about you...you are worthless!

An Auburn fan making fun of Clemson? REALLY!?
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago
I learned it from Clemson people making fun of Clemson...

You can call me a Barner if you wish. Doesn't phase me. API, Albarn, East Alabama Cow College.

Just don't call us War Eagles. Them's fighting words...
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
Nah. I don't see any reason to call you anything. I just thought it was a bit of "pot, kettle, black". I can honestly say that I've never heard API though.
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
Ewwww! Now that's funny. I wonder if Kevin or Clemson Joe will say something to you? I know they won't!
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
Clemson Joe We all have to live in this world together and some folks cannot refrain from making personal attacks. I really believe that it takes all kinds to make this world. In the words of a certain comedian- you cant fix stupid. I come on here{ this site to talk football and have fun} not to try and insult folks- I can understand where you are coming from.

I agree with us leaving politics and derogatory insults out. Yet it's hard to be civil when you've been slighted. However, all it takes is for one person to say "Hey, if I offended you, I'm sorry." Clears the slate, and we all move on. If someone can't accept an apology, then they need to move on.

I'll step down from my soapbox.
  • Tyler_Tech · 1 year ago
Let's try to keep the conversation pertinent to the topic posted on the fanblogs mainpage. These virtual punches and swings are a bit childish. This is a place where college football fans should be able to respectfully converse their views on the sport, hence that is why I was attracted to this blog. Let us try and keep it that way so new users will join to make the conversation more diverse.

*step down off soapbox, but trips and falls*

This is childish. Most coaches assist at several places before becoming head coaches. Stoops has given credit to each of his former head coaches for how he has developed. He learned much from each of them. It's a pretty amazing list - Hayden Frye - Iowa (player, graduate assistant), Snyder - KSU (assistant, DC), Spurrier - Florida (DC). So, Stoops has ties to many major coaches and conferences.

i am going to be in a sea of crimson! I cannot wait for that game! I have never been to Norman. I hope it is the most silent town in the U.S. after the game. :)

Honestly, I hope Venerables gets a Head Coaching job. I'm ready for a new Defensive Coordinator at OU.
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
It's not the Defensive Co-ordinator. Robert keeps going out recruiting the best offensive players and failing to get cornerbacks and safeties. If Robert can get a few...Oklahoma will be solid!
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
The more I look at this, the more I think that TDP needs to get back out there to interview Kevin Wilson, the OC. Clemson is 2.5 hours from his hometown, and it's pretty hard to argue that he doesn't know what he's doing on offense.
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
Depends on who you ask Joe, the SEC guys say's it's because the Big 12 has no defense...
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
Well I'm not an SEC guy, and that offense is very good. How much of that do you think Wilson can take credit for?
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
Just about all of it, he's good, real good...
