Also, I thought that Gary Patterson was a virtual lock for the Kansas State job. Is that not the case?
Mea culpa.
Lake Keowee > Hartwell Lake
Actually, given the success of Stoops, it is no surprise that his coaches are sought after. Success breeds success, and Clemson is just trying ot latch onto some of it.
Wasn't Bob Stoops Spurrier's Defensive Coordinator back in 1996? LOL!
Let's take a look...
LSU
Jimbo Fisher - future head coach at FSU
Derek Dooley - Current HC/AD @ Louisiana Tech
Bo Pelini - Current HC @ Nebraska
Will Muschamp - Currently about a year away from a gig, himself...
Phil Bennett - Well...nevermind...LOL...
Mack Brown - Former LSU Offensive Coordinator (LOL!)
Florida
Buddy Teevens...Umm...Nevermind...LOL!
Ron Zook...Umm...Nevermind...LOL!
Bob Stoops - Who begat Mark, Mangino, Pelini, & now Venables...
Tennessee
Joker Phillips
David Cutcliffe
GO GATORS!!
if you're gonna hire a coordinator to turn things around at a program with super-high expectations, he better damn well be the best coordinator in the country.
either hire Will Muschamp or a proven HC. if you don't, you'll be disappointed as a Clemson fan.
Puzzled- If LSU had a little better QB they should have won that game, three turnovers and the QB wasnt hitting nothing and still had yall on the ropes till the final INT.
They got 4 turnovers, had 100+ yards receiving out of their WR, 100+ yards rushing out of their #1 RB, and even got a Pick 6...As well as multiple scores off the other turnovers we gave them as a team.
But, like I said...That doesn't matter...We were lucky they didn't beat us by 60 touchdowns...
I can't wait for Star Jackson next year...and then an AJ McCarron/Star Jackson QB derby...
Nick Saban's history of developing quarterbacks is abysmal, at best...
But, they won, we lost...Let them have their cake and eat it, too...
come on TE. you know coach Saban has nothing to do with developing QBs. the only position he specifically helps to develop is DB.
the rest of his coaching is Xs and Os, teaching mental toughness, recruiting, and managing the game.
the QB coach is the one responsible for teaching the QB proper mechanics, and the proper way to go through progressions, etc.
we currently have Jim McElwain, and you may not know, but JPW is a COMPLETELY different QB this year than he's been the past 2 years. McElwain did the same thing at Fresno St. last season. Jim McElwain is a renowned QB doctor. he will make every QB better that comes through the system.
As for the game, Tomcat is right, if y'all had a "little" bit better of a QB, then you might have won the game.
but that same QB won y'all games against Auburn, and (trying to think of other big wins for LSU......) South Carolina.
so might it have been something Alabama's defense did that made him a "little" less effective?
Come to think of it, if we had a "little" bit better QB, we might have our first Heisman winner, and be favored against Florida next month...
and can you imagine if we had a "little" bit better of a QB last year?
y'all wouldn't have been National Champions...
Didn't have a hand in the quarterback positions...LOL...
BC, y'know...You should think before you post...He was our coach for five years...You're not even through your 2nd full season with him.
I know this guy far, far better than you do...I'm not making things up-that's your forte. I'm going off of my experience with him as my head coach. You know, the one where he sat a 1st team All-SEC quarterback in Rohan Davey in favor of Josh Booty his 1st year here?
How he shuffled QB's in 2004 before splitting for Miami...Starting JaMarcus on the road at the Swamp (GREAT decision, that was, LOL), and almost getting us beat because of it. Pulling Marcus Randall after a 15 play touchdown drive to open up the Auburn game at Auburn, which one could only describe in a manner fitting Sherman's March to Atlanta...
You know not of what you speak, but, then again, that's never stopped you before...Spout off about your great knowledge of a first year quarterback coach-whose operating in a system completely unlike anything Coach Mac's run before-with a 3 year starter whose never been a world beater-your admission, not mine.
15/31, with a pick, a score, and a sneak for a score in OT...Against "our" defense...We hit him 3 times all game, and you had a guy go over 100 yards receiving against us...and he completed 48% against us...
Yeah, I'll say he's come light years...
Your post is rife with references like "imagine if", or "you woldn't have been". You spend most of your time in hypotheticals, which is quite telling. I can't take our third loss off the books. You can't take our National Title & win lat year off the record, either.
But, go ahead and keep playing the "what if" game. I prefer a place called reality...Where you'll be pretty soon this season, and most DECIDEDLY next year [giggle].
Congrats, BC...
your rebuttals used to be so much better.
now about 80% of it is just BS/personal attacks/telling me i don't know what i'm taking about, without offering factual evidence to prove i'm wrong.
you're getting lazy.
so sorting through all of the "fluff," what did you really say?
- our QB hasn't made significant improvements from last year
- coach Nick Saban wasn't good at deciding on the starting QB while at LSU
- don't play the "what ifs" game...
- i "know" Nick Saban better than you do.
what did that have to do with anything i said?
i said:
- Nick Saban doesn't work hands-on with QBs - TRUE
- JPW has made significant strides from his JR to SR year - TRUE
- and the whole topic of the original conversation was: LSU would've won if they had a "little" bit better of a QB.
this statement was made by Tomcat, to which, you supported by offering your preemptive defense against Alabama fans such as myself.
i was merely playing right along in offering my own "what if" scenarios.
and if you don't think JPW has improved, why don't you go back and look at how he played last year as opposed to this year.
Then go look how much the Fresno St. QB improved under 1 year of McElwain.
then, AFTER you've done the research, come tell me that:
1. Jim McElwain isn't a great QB coach
2. JPW hasn't benefited significantly from McElwain's coaching.
P.S. LSU lost to Alabama.
It's called a straw-man argument, BC, and the dog won't hunt...As I said, you're making something up that I haven't said-which you are wont to do-so that you can argue, essentially with yourself, but you hope to make folks think I've said what you're making up...
I'm saying that Nick Saban controls EVERYTHING about his team...You don't think he ORDERED Jimbo to pull the finger off the trigger while in Baton Rouge? He did the same thing against Georgia in the 2nd half...He is heavily involved in all aspects of his team, and he controls who goes in and out of the game in many situations.
Jimbo wanted to leave Marcus Randall in at Auburn in 2004, but the problem was, the script was for him to run the 1st 15 plays, and then insert JaMarcus...
Most anyone in the Stadium would've told you that you'd be crazy to pull him after that, but Saban went with his script, ignoring emotion and feel and instinct, and went with his list...and it cost him the game. PERIOD.
This is what I mean, and this is what I still see with many of his decisions.
So, Saban DOES jerk around the decision making with respect to the quarterback situation, and it produces negative results.
So, now that I've cleared that up, and clarified myself on a point that was already excessively clear, I'm going to leave the rest of it, because I don't have the energy or the time to get caught up in your Clintonian misconstruing of every single one of my points into something its not, just so you can basically argue something that's not there...
You've gone from a somewhat humorous buzzing little fly to an annoying, alarmingly redundant broken record. Your act is quickly typecasting you.
Do yourself a favor...Have fun responding from here on out...You & I are through...
Saying you're right over and over again doesn't make it so...It really just sort've makes people ignore you...
(Insert pithy comeback below, since I've already given you permission to get the last word, Ringo)
secondly, i can't believe that you're going to ignore me from now on. don't even try to act like you're just so intellectually above me that we can't argue. you may be a better writer, but i can still hang in there with you blow for blow.
it seems as though that star by your name has gone straight to that gel-encrusted dome of yours.
now about what you said, that i said, that you said:
"what did that have to do with anything i said?
i said:
- Nick Saban doesn't work hands-on with QBs - TRUE"
i never said you said Nick Saban was hands-on with QBs.
i said i said that.
now I know this aint really the place but check this out
lets just imagine that OU beats TTech and Fla beats Bama
I know these games havent been played and anything can happen- but what if?? our president elect favors 8 team playoff
Fla 1 loss
Tex 1 loss
OU 1 loss
Bama 1 loss
PSU 1 loss
TTech 1 loss
USC 1 loss
Utah 0 loss
I know this is all hypothetical- but what if?
Your thoughts
BTW If I have offended anybody on here please accept my apologies
Hookem-Horns
but of course. we all know what should happen.
SEC champ vs. Big XII champ
it's only right.
...and if Texas would have played the first half, they wouldn't have lost to Tech. See where I'm going with this?
and because this is y'alls first year in the Muschamp system. it's pretty complicated and usually takes a couple of years to see it dominate. it's the same system Saban runs.
Will Muschamp is the best DC in the country, and y'all are damn lucky to have him. It really will hurt y'all if he decides to take a HC job for next year.
Hookem-Horns
but c'mon tomcat.
don't try to tell me there are any good defenses in the big 12.
i watch the games!
i see what everyone else does:
zero pass rush
zero pass coverage
no wonder the average QB is completing 80% of his passes, and throwing for 600 yds. a game.
i was thinking about this yesterday.
everyone knows the SEC has better defenses than the Big XII.
everyone knows the Big XII has better QBs than the SEC.
but how can you prove the Big XII has better offenses?
really?
is it because of how many points they score?
that has to due with style of offense.
really, in the SEC vs. Big XII debate, you're debating spread offenses vs. pro-style.
Whats really funny is that in your post you mentioned average QB's- thing is that the average QB in this league is actually hitting his receivers and they are all bad-ss QB's
I really felt sorry for LSU fans and was watching the game. We have a H/S freshman QB right here that can hit his WR's better than some Div-1-A starters-that Ive seen. BTW he led his team to a 0-10 record. Thats right- never won a game, but he can hit his receivers- this is Texas football- wide open pass crazy high scoring exciting stuff, not the old 5 yds- cloud of dust time of game we grew up with-the spread rules- speed kills- how you gonna slow it down much less stop it ?
BTW I'm gonna watch a pro-syle offense tommorrow- it aint working to good for Texas A&M
Hookem-Horns
Sicem-Bears
Go Owls
why dont they run the spread in the NFL?
if it's so great, why don't they?
I KNOW! PICK ME!
it's because the defenses are too damn fast/good for it to work. and NFL teams build their defenses with players from the S. E. C.......
Cant wait to see a Texas vs Bama or Texas vs LSU game- how you gonna stop them?
Yall got a great D no doubt, but you couldnt outscore the Horns- your a young guy-learn to adapt and embrace cutting edge change.
That pro-style game sh-t dont work ask Nebraska or Texas A&M- these spread teams are kiling them and yes they have great traditions and recruiting, but they cant hang
Hookem-Horns
Did you change your picture ?
Hookem
right now im into playing acoustic stuff like citizen cope, jack johnson, jason mraz, etc. and the bluesss. and the beatles.
but i really like writing my own stuff.
like the poem i wrote in response to TE's in that one thread haha.
even though that only took about 60 seconds to come up with...
He really likes John Forgerty and Jimmy Page-its really purty neat that he picks up all kinds of stuff, mostly old rock
He sat in with a local Tejano band one night and did some outrages Blue Oyster Cult and Santana- hes really taken to it.
Keep up with what your doing- man sounds good
BTW Ive always loved the blues seen Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy, Gatemouth Brown, Stevie Ray & ZZ Top
Sweet!
Edit: I reread it a few times and now I think I understand what you're trying to say. So the guy who is the recruiter of this kid for UT will be moving if Venables goes. So who is the recruiter? Is it not Muschamp?
GO GATORS!!
wow. i guess that bama homer must've been fired...
Just kidding...I am pretty close to a guy who is very close family friends with the McCarron's...He's a great kid as far as what I hear, but you guys have to put some weight on him. At least you know he's mobile though...I hear he's been running for his life all year behind an inconsistent-at best-Offensive Line...
I think he'll come in and redshirt his freshman year to bulk up a little bit.
but i mean, he is 6' 4", and i think he's at around 180 now so we'll see.
he may surprise some people and challenge for PT immediately.
It's sort've the same way that Barkley lost the #1 ranking on ESPN.com to Russel Shepard-who is recruiting for us every other weekend on unofficials-just after Russ committed to a few post-season games certain services put on...
You can't base your estimation on those sorts of things. They're mile-markers, but they're far from inexact sciences.
I prefer Scout.com, to be honest, but at the top, you're splitting hairs. AJ will be a great QB, but if you think a RS Freshman and/or a True Freshman is going to excel on offense behind a rebuilding line & a new system...Wow...You must not watched Jarret Lee this season behind a potential 1st round RB in Chuck Scott, 1st day WR's in LaFell & Byrd, and with a line full of 1st rounders on its left side...
You can't just run off tackle all day, BC...Your QB has GOT to make plays...and inexperience is a killer...Ask an LSU Fan...
In other words...The LAST surprise you want to hope for is AJ coming in and playing immediately. Star will be-next year-just as highly ranked, with just as much experience, as Lee was for us going into this year...
Be afraid...VERY afraid...
