Fanblogs.com: Top 10 ESPN GameDay appearances ranked by team

  • grcunning · 1 year ago
I think this has a lot to do with rivalries. OSU and Michigan are guaranteed to get at least one visit every two years, no matter what their record, same with Fl and FSU.
  • shiguy · 1 year ago
totally agree. i was disappointed that the WVU-auburn game this year isn't getting gameday. watch though come next year when it goes back to auburn...they will.
  • Regan · 1 year ago
Second is not as fun as First. I feel your pain, Ohio State...
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago
WVU, traditional power? You mean in the last 3 years, Kev?
  • gatorhippy · 1 year ago
WVU actually has ZERO appearances since CGD began...
  • shiguy · 1 year ago
trust me we all know and have been waiting for something. figured auburn would garner it but no........... damn thursday night games!! now i gotta take off of work!

what is more annoying is the fact they have gone to a D-III school matchup Amherst at Williams. even they had gameday and we havn't!
  • gatorhippy · 1 year ago
I was actually surprised at the fact the CGD had never been there considering how much living room furniture meets it's untimely demise in M-Town...

But yes, Shi, Thursdays are the BE's night undoubtedly...

Probably better exposure wise nationally than being featured on CGD a few times...
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago
That's a good point. Besides, Saturday nights are all right for fighting and SEC football...
  • gatorhippy · 1 year ago
    Well...

"The Boys ARE back in town again" this weekend in Gunsville...

So long as no one says "Georgia's on my mind", I'll be OK.
  • gatorhippy · 1 year ago
    LOL...

    When my grandfather drank...

He used to sing that song but would edit the words...

"Georgia...Geor-or-orgia...You can just kiss my a$$"
  • nick · 1 year ago
yeah but the gators will be kissing UGAs a$$ this year
  • Zac · 1 year ago
Maybe that's the problem, GH. There isn't any furniture left for the CGD crew to sit on.
  • gatorhippy · 1 year ago
    Could be true...

I heard old couches are hard to come by in a 50 mile radius of M-Town beginning in August...
  • shiguy · 1 year ago
It is actually illegal to have "indoor" furniture on your porches during game day. Morgantown police started that about 2 years ago to try and prevent the amount of fires. They give you a ticket the day before which is more just a notification and then will actually remove it on game day.
  • Zac · 1 year ago
That's right, nadda one. Whether or not that means anything significant, is anyone's guess.
  • Tom_Blogical · 1 year ago
Ridiculous! (Yeah, I'm covering for posting twice.)
  • Tom_Blogical · 1 year ago
That's amazing. I'd have thought they'd have at least one.
  • gatorhippy · 1 year ago
    Me too...

    I was really surprised...
  • Zac · 1 year ago
I would have to agree. WVU isn't what one might call a "traditional" power. Now, depending on what you read, with whom you speak, or what you believe, WVU is ranked 17th-15th in all time wins. So, what constitutes a "traditional" power? Against what criteria is a "traditional" power measured? I don't know that we've ever really taken the time to answer either of these questions.

Only one team out West of the Rockies is on the list...probably a time zone issue rather than a talent issue. Game Day starts at 7AM out here.
  • gatorhippy · 1 year ago
    Disagree...

I think the talent gap between USC and the rest of the PAC is more of a factor...

There aren't as many games that shuffle the top end of the top 25 annually West of the Rockies as East of them...
  • Tommy_Trojan · 1 year ago
    Mr. Mayor,

Long time. Don't recall hearin' from ya last year. Finally got me, though. Too bad Dixon got hurt. That could have been a National Championship year. Great win over USF though. Impressed the hell out of me. So did last weeks game.
Hey, I sent my two nine year old twin sons to stay up there in Eugene with their aunt and her son - who they love so much. They usually spend the whole summer up there anyway. This year we decided to let them stay up there for a whole school semester. Hell, I might even end up there. You don't think that my boys could possibly run the risk of becoming Duck fans - do you?

    Tom_Blog:

Kinda just reaches out and grabs you, doesn't it? I liked the bright red color and all. Used to have a couple of bright red Firebirds also. Man, did those cars ever get me into trouble. It's probably just the red that you dig. It's just a little too cardinal though.....

    Tommyu T

My business has been going nuts and I just couldn't deal with the Disqus site last year.

I was just in Las Vegas, spent 4 nights at The Wynn. For my money Caesars still has the best Sports Book seating. Meant to call you but you know how it is...

The Ducks are a great draw in a town of 120,000. There's no distractions like there are in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle or Phoenix (the Pac-10 urban areas). You're kids will be fine. Especially if they like to run, the Old Track Capital of the World...most people stay pretty healthy up there...

I miss T Mac and Irish JT!
  • Tommy_Trojan · 1 year ago
    Mayor:

Yes, I've heard that everyone is pretty nutty up there on the healthy stuff. Bike paths everywhere. Everybody eats trail mix on Thanksgiving. I've even heard the rumor that women going topless in Oregon is perfectly acceptable. Any truth to that rumor? That's what my wife claims anyway. She's been after me to move to Oregon for around five years now. I figure it's just a ploy. If it's true though - I'll pack up the house and be there by tomorrow.
  • shiguy · 1 year ago
hahaha i was just mentioning that to someone how they have been gone ever since loss 2 for the irish last year.
  • TampaGator · 1 year ago
Odd--I thought we tied tOSU for #1 in our championship season--when LSU came to town.

Have we really had 5 CGD's since?.

    GO GATORS!!
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
This includes away games. Has WV never been the away team even?

Didn't Game Day Live cover the Holy War in Salt Lake City in 2004?

Does the MWC have one up on the Big East?
  • Zac · 1 year ago
I don't know that WVU has EVER been involved in a game home or away, in which the ESPN CGD crew was on the scene.
  • gatorhippy · 1 year ago
    According to Wiki they haven't...
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
Air Force has HOSTED 2, one against Army and the other against Notre Dame. That makes 4 appearances for MWC teams.

USF played Army and Pittsburgh played Virginia Tech. those are the only two appearnces for current Big East members.

The USF game is noted for its numerous lightning delays.
  • shiguy · 1 year ago
are you kidding? as i mentioned above the damn D-III schools have one up on the big east.
  • gatorhippy · 1 year ago
    Speaking of CGD appearances...

I was approached by some people I know today about a few extra tickets that are available for the UF/UCG matchup this weekend...

E-mail me at gatorhippy@fanblogs.com if you're interested and I'll lay down the details...
  • TheMayor · 1 year ago
    Gatorhippy,

Sorry to disagree with your disagreement . The record ESPN Gameday show goes back to 1993. USC had some very lean years in the 90's. It's all about ratings baby. East Coasters get the show at 10AM, the Midwest gets it at 9AM. There's very little draw on the West Coast.

I drag my ass up every Saturday to watch the show. They were in Eugene twice last year by the way...
  • gatorhippy · 1 year ago
And both of those shows at U of Or. last season involved teams that were ranked in the top ten at the time...

If you look back over the list from the link I provided above, you'll see the same trend since 1993...

Anytime a PAC team has hosted CGD on campus the game has involved teams ranked in the top ten...

The only time it appears that trend doesn't apply was in 1998 with #12 Oregon visiting #2 UCLA...

While I do agree to an extent that it is an early start time out West, watching those two shows last season outside Autzen proved to me that college kids will get up and fill the background no matter what time the show starts locally...

I believe it's still a matter of not as many contests involving top ten teams are happening west of the Rockies as often as they are happening east of them...

More teams equals more opportunity to be featured...

Were are they going next ? Are the locations selected, way in advance or week to week based upon ranking- national importance Etc Etc
    Thanks Hookem

    Think you mean "dominant."

Gee whiz, Tony. Thanks. I'll send half of the invisible check over to you! :-)
