"Assistant" Head Coach? Are you sure about that, or is that just a small, accidental goof? Also, do you think Andersen will stick around for the bowl game or do you think he'll instead want to get a head start on recruiting season?
  • Ben Prather · 12 months ago
    Fixed, and both.

I expect his presence at practice to be minimal, as he begins to work on scouting his new team and pursue recruits, with senior leadership, Whittingham and the assistant coaches picking up the slack. It will be his choice to sideline the bowl game, if he so chooses.

Do you think Andersen will be able to turn it around at Utah State?
  • Ben Prather · 12 months ago
Utah State is significantly increasing their football budget. This will have more impact on turning things around than any coach could. Anderson will benefit as head coaches get more than their fair share of credit when a program commits to making institutional improvement to its infrastructure.

What is meant by turn around? It would be fair to expect him to make Utah State a consistently Bowl Eligible team in the WAC.

They might get to a level where their own fans are not yelling over rated to a BYU team that is beating them 20 points, and can pull off a major upset against an instate rival.

Especially if Boise State heads for the MWC, they could be competitive for a WAC title.

Turn it around for Utah state would imply they have ever been good? Like they were on the right track and somehow got turned around now they need to turn around again? Of course I guess if you started on the wrong track you would still need to turn around. Maybe he will turn it around but can Utah support another force? Are there enough post-mission-mormons to deck out three good Utah teams? Also I expect the Aztecs to become a force to be reckoned with. So maybe with a new leader in the MWC (TCU or SDSU) Utah State can become the dominant force in state as recruits head for the WAC team? Idle Blather...

Idle blather? Just remember, until FSU started taking on anybody, anywhere when Bobby Bowden took over the program in the 70s, which wasn't long ago, they were in Utah State's boat. Perspective is everything.

I meant what I was saying was Idle Blather.

    See? Perspective is everything! ;-)

Technically, turn around simply means they are headed in the wrong direction. Restore Utah State would imply a return to former greatness.

Utah State was more competitive in the 60 years ago, especially compared to a woman's college in Tallahassee.

Utah State would need to recruit out of state, as Utah does. Currently Utah aims for 50% out of state and Utah State has closer to 10%.

Utah and BYU recruit southern California better than SDSU, as more LDS members live in southern California than the total population of the state of Utah.

Also, if you are from Utah and not LDS, you go to Utah. This give "the U" a 50% LDS population, and a distinctive LDS counter-culture. (See SLC Punk)
