Fanblogs.com: Unnofficial BCS Standings - Week 6

    First!
If your in the big 12 or SEC, win, move on, and you will get to play for the prize.
    Wreck em'!

It's hard to argue with success. While the Big 12 isn't in the bag yet, it's at least likely down to 2 teams (maybe 3). The SEC is still wide open.

    BCS Computer Component top 10:

    1) Alabama 0.99
    2) Missouri 0.92
    3) Oklahoma 0.85
    4) Texas 0.83
    5) Vanderbilt 0.82
    6) Utah 0.79
    7) Penn State 0.73
    8) Northwestern 0.62
    9) Georgia 0.57
    10) Boise State 0.55

Maybe the BCS should allow the computers to use MOV a little?

Ben, your post is part of the reason computers & I don't get along.

The mock BCS standings I saw had Vandy #8m ahead of Utah & georgia... that would be awesome...
  • blackdawg · 1 year ago
The "mock" BCS standing maybe, the real one never.

I would be interested in a link. The link above uses the actual BCS formula and the data that is available, which is now all but one of the computers.

    Hey,

Why are the Trojans ranked so low? Any ideas?
  • PrinceMarko · 1 year ago
Strength of schedule maybe? Who knows, besides that one flop of a game(which every team has a year) USC should be top five. That said, its hard when the other teams are undefeated in the silly BCS way of ranking teams.

I'm not convinced that Alabama is a better team than LSU, let alone the #2 team in the country. Yes, they won at GA, a team many of us figured to lose 2-3 games this year. LSU won at Auburn, a team many of us picked to win the SEC West. (Bama has yet to play either, and struggled against KY.)

Currently, I'm not convinced UT is a better team than BYU, let alone ranked 9th. I'm not entirely convinced (though I got closer after this weekend) MO should be ranked 3rd, let alone above TX.

Given Vandy's record, not to mention they were underdog to everyone but RICE, I'm surprised they're not ranked higher. Speaking of which, why is 5-0 OK St not ranked higher?

I'm with most of you guys. Rankings are like ear-wax. Everybody's got their own, but nobody else gets it. At least it's another wacky season; one in which the phrase play-off should be frequently spoken.

Wow, that's probably one of the most interesting analogies I've ever heard.

BTW, this is EXACTLY what I've been talking about with Florida Gator fans: http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/orl-bianc...

"...They could be married to Halle Berry and complain because she spends too much money on lingerie..." LOL!

Yeah, I'm afraid this article is pretty well grounded in fact.

For my part, I remain perpetually positive and upbeat on the Gators, and savor every second of Gator FB I can watch, even watching the losses multiple times (currently between 3-4th quarters of Ole Miss game, for my 3rd viewing of it). Yet I readily acknowledge that I stand out as the exception amoungst the more conspicuous members of the Gator Nation--key phrase there being "more conspicuous"--not greater in number, just more vocal.

I think the "old school" Gator fans--graduates of the "wait'll next year" generation(s)--still appreciate Gator FB just being competitive, and as a means of celebrating O&B commraderie. For e.g.--"Mr. Two Bits"--not the poster on here who goes by that handle, but the guy who inspired said handle--George Edmonson--is THE MOST loyal, die hard, positive, upbeat fan--not just in Gator Nation, but quite possibly in just about the entire world of sports fandom. He is representative of the positive component of the Gator faithful--which, IMO, comprises a greater number of the Gator Nation, than the unsatiable "novo riche" component.

At the end of the day though, no matter how spoiled, how arrogant, how unrealistic the expectations--you'd be hard pressed to find a more loyal following anywhere. The "wait'll next year" roots run deep, and the Orange & Blue contamination of the blood, deeper still--far too deeply entrenched to ever be cured by a mere run of mediocrity or even futility.

b/t/w: Ironic that Mike Bianchi wrote the article; he has noticably high expectations of the Gators--though he is pretty positive about it.

    GO GATORS!!
