BCS AQ Hit list: (all non-AQ teams in the top 20)
East Carolina (@ Tulane)
BYU (UCLA)
Utah (@ Utah State)
BCS non-AQ Hit List: (teams needed to lose to leave only 2 BCS eligible teams in the top 20)
Wisconsin (@ Fresno State)
ASU (UNLV)
Oregon (@ Purdue)
Penn State (@ Syracuse)
I still think Frenso is over-rated and Utah is under-rated though. Tennessee and Michigan being not even in the top 35 is a joke when you have Minnesota up there. There should be no polls released until week 4 of the season.
Michigan are 1 1/2 point underdogs vs Notre Dame
Apparently the Irish drinking habits have migrated to Vegas bookmakers.
Those A.S.O.L.s are everywhere...
Wasn't me. Don't think Rommey is all that humorous. I'll take Michigan and the 1 1/2 though. I agree that Utah now needs to move up. Not sure about Michigan yet - although I think they still will have a stellar "D". Let's wait on Fresno. This is supposed to be their very best team - and they have had two really good teams in the last few years. Don't just hand this one to Wisconsin. That RB Matthews on Fresno is tremendous. Clearly, the Irish "bettors" have had a little too much of the ol' Bushmills.
I'm still not sold on Frenso State. And how is Kansas underdogs to U. South Florida? I live in Tampa and can tell you that the Bulls are way overrated.
The game is being played in Florida, right? One of the teams that I really got burned on last year was Kansas. I could never get my head around the idea that they were really that good. I kept betting against them every week. I only got the Missouri game correct. This year Kansas plays a much tougher schedule than last year. Therefore, people are voting them downward. Alot of people like to vote based on what the final outcome of the season may look like. So, they'll say to themselves, Kansas will lose to Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas and Texas Tech. So, they see Kansas as that 8-4 team. Therefore, they rank them accordingly, although they haven't played any of those teams yet. Right now, Kansas is every bit as good as last year. It will take a powerhouse Big 12 team to beat them. Reesing threw the pig for over 400+ yards last week. They now have three very good RB's. They lost some on defense - but the offense is just fine. I would venture to say that Kansas is a team that is very underrated at this moment. So, I'm with you here. Kansas should beat South Florida. Besides, South Florida is notorious for losing to the better teams.
By the way, I think ECU should be around 14th with UT & BYU close behind them. As for WVU, for now, they're probably right where they belong.
This brings about questions. Was VA Tech over-rated? Was WVU over-rated? Was ECU underrated? By how much in each case? Keep in mind; both of this year's upsets were at home for ECU; we haven't seen them on the road; that does impact some teams.
Given the facts we have, after ECU's win over Tech, it's easy to assess they're about the same. As ECU won, so they should get the ranking. After ECU's win over WVU, one could just as easily conclude WVU wasn't as good as Tech (They certainly didn't play as well.), not to mention, both schools are a week older and coming off wins. This is why in this case, I only move ECU up a little (14th), even though WVU was ranked 8th. That WVU was dropped to 24th, the way they played last week, was in my opinion being kind. I personally would just as soon they have to re-earn their ranking.
As for your hypothetical, had ECU played and beaten OSU in "the shoe", given the talent OSU had returning, given their performance over the past 2 seasons, given their performance in the last 2 NC bowls, how would you reconcile their ranking?
