I have to admit that I would be the first to say that coaches should go for 2 more often than they do if they are expecting a shoot out. With Oregon State missing the first PA attempt it only makes the calls that much more justifiable.

I kinda figured they were suspect after seeing them against UCF. Real close game-- UCF BTW got blown out by 1-3 UTEP 58-13. This is the point in the season that will determine and seperate the pretenders from the contenders.

A beautiful TD for Utah was called back that the commentators said should have been good. I believe it came to light the umpire was a member of Arizona Alumni Association.

Holly crap!! Mayor and TommyT are still here. I have not posted up in a while, but am surprised to see you two still here. OUTSTANDING!!!
I think that USC will win the game on Sat.. However, UO has a chance if we can pound the ball and keep USC's offence off the field...providing that we don't have 5+turnovers. We have the backs to make it happen. Come on baby!!

Mr. Mayor:

I don't know what to make of the game. Everything indicates that USC should win by around 17 and that's about what that line is. My 1st reaction would be to take Oregon and the points. Oregon is poundin' the rock at over 300 yds per game. Obviously, their gonna be controlling the clock. We'll probably have Cushing move to MLB with Clay Mathews playing Cushing's OLB post. Cushing has a broken hand but is gonna play? If not RS Frosh Chris Galippo will have to man the middle - but he just came off an injury and hasn't played yet. Furthermore, DE Everson Griffen and DT Averill Spicer may be replaced by Mathews and DT Jurrell Casey (true frosh). Also, WR Vidal Hazelton will be replaced by Ronald Johnson, and RB Joe McKnight is going to be replaced by RB Stafon Johnson.

So, there is gonna be alot of different players getting more opportunities in this game. I'm not so sure that the Ducks are the guys to do all of this with. The RB and WR decisions are probably gonna help the offense. I am almost sure of that. I'm a little concerned with revamping the DL in this game. Now, since Maualuga probably can't go, I can understand why the LB's have to be moved around. Putting Mathews at DE won't hurt us at all either. But, I am concerned about about putting the true frosh at DT. That is surprising and I have not heard or that here. Those guys get redshirted. I sure hope he's as good as they say he is.

So, I'm with you. I really can't see this one getting away from anyone. I think that So Cal plays better this time - because it's in the Coliseum. Trojan's may come out with a win - but I don't think that it's gonna be by much. I would not bet this game - but I would take the Ducks if I had to. Good luck to you, also.

Mr. Mayor:

That one should have been a "no call". The receiver actually stopped, and lurched back in the opposite direction, thus actually running into the defender - who could not stop his momentum anyway. This was all created by a very poor pass that was uncatchable no matter what. A terrible call and it gave Utah another shot at the 2-pt conversion - which they completed. There were very many holdings (or outright tackles and takedowns) that were not called on the Utah offensive linemen. You were not imagining that. It really was happening. But, it happens in alot of games. For some reason, somebody, wanted Utah to get this game. My claim has always been that "the BIG MONEY", that is invested in casinos all over the country, has got to affect the outcome of about 15% of all games every week. This has to happen in order to keep "the average bettor" at around the 53% mark - which is the "break even" percentage of all bets placed. Otherwise, just about any idiot, could figure out how to get 2/3 of all games. Furthermore, it would be almost commonplace, to be able to pick a 3-team parlay winner. The "Big Money Boyz" are never gonna let that happen. It's got to be 50/50 all the way around. But, nobody would ever believe any of this. They just really think that those ref's are either that stupid or just plain blind. Hate to burst anyone's bubble - but they get paid to do that.

You are both right. OSU LOST the game rather than being beaten by a better squad. I really thought the last Utah 2 PT conversion attempt that was ruled a PI was uncatchable. Probably would not have mattered in the final outcome. Again, I am a DUCK that happened to be watching the game because the VP debate was so deplorable.

Other than that call and the subsequent non calls I would not really complain about the officiating. Do either of you know whose conference was officiating tonight? I don't....but I will say that the games I have watched by PAC 10 officials this year have been no less grievously officiated than any other game I have seen. I even complained last week about SEC officiating....like I care???

Please tell me another game other than UO OU 2006 game that puts PAC 10 officials on the map AS HOMERS in an OOC game...

I am just saying that Utah is not worthy of their #15 rating ater this marginal win.

The great news is - we're rich! The line on the Oregon State/Utah matchup opened up with Utah being the 8 point favorites. That line moved up all the way to -12 by Tuesday. My calculations, although somewhat off, had Utah winning the game by 1.3 points. Now, that's what you want to see - a ten point swing. It's like taking candy from a baby. What I want to know is this: how in the world did that line move all the way up to -12 when Oregon State just beat USC? That was amazing. Are there really that many stupid gamblers out there?

Good point about those failed two-pt conversions - in the 1st half? Terrible coaching. What was the point of that? By the time that Oregon State was up 21-20, it would have been 23-20, a much more managable score. Furthermore, when Oregon State scores again, the score would have read 30-20. By the time that Utah puts that last TD in, instead of going for two, they would have kicked the conversion - thus making the score 30-27. The last FG ties the game and we go into overtime. Mike Riley made some bad coaching decisions in this game. Almost looks as if the coach is the one who got the "BIG HEAD" in this one. I guess being the only coach who has beaten USC twice lately - he must have thought that he had earned the right. Too bad - his players were actually trying to win the game.

If I watched the same thing against the Sooners and Baylor I would call it out...but chances are I won't see that game.

I am afraid that watching this game and the Fresno State Wisconsin game i can not continue to say that the MWC/WAC/BIG 12 refs are the cream or the crop.

That said, I have no sympathy for the PAC 10 losing due to a questionable call.

I will give you THIS

It was an ugly win to match our previous 5 ugly wins.

We held Rodgers to 101 yards rushing and Oregon State beat us in the screen plays. I actually realized that over reaction on our part just before Oregon State made their first offensive play. Oregon State had the perfect game plan to beat the Utes and still came up short.

As for that questionable pass interference call, I have two points to make. 1st, if the corner in question had even looked towards the ball I could concede the call was bad. 2nd, did we not win by 3? The better question should be on Oregon State going for two as often as they did in the first half.

#15? Maybe not, I am afraid. We do continue to win. The computers love us. If we could ever learn not to screw up we will be much better.

Good teams don't screw up. We are not there.

Mr. Mayor:

That was the worst clock management by Oregon State that I have seen lately. On that last drive, with about 1:30 on the clock, they run a wide sweep and run the guy straight out of bounds. Then on 3rd down, they throw a sideline pattern one yard short of the yard marker, and the guy lands out of bounds with the ball. If he had caught it in bounds - they left him no way to turn and run up field for the 1st down. Thus, leaving Utah 1:14 on the clock for that last drive, with a very weak punt to boot. Oregon State pulled one great choke job - that's all. They had the 28-20 lead with less than two minutes left in the game - and still managed to give up two scoring drives. Bad officiating or not (and there was plenty) - Oregon State just gave this one away. Give Utah alot of credit, they showed alot of heart, and made all the plays that they had to in order to pull this one out. I have no sympathy, right now, for Oregon State.

And, Mayor, what are you doing complaining about officiating? I am quite sure that those PAC 10 ref's were involved in this game also. They only prove what I've always said: that the PAC zebras are the most fair and impartial ref's that there are, they make equally terrible calls against both teams, regardless of conference affiliation.

Beavers got hosed tonight by the officials...evidently, pass interference only goes one way. Utah #15? Not a chance, sorry Ben but you didn't cover even with the help of the officials. I'm a Duck and I hate the Beavers but this was a joke.

Anderson and Hester specifically wrote their program because they felt the others did not adequately do justice to the PAC 10.

It is a computer program. They should not be biased. The PAC 10 makes no bones about which computer they favor and Anderson and Hester advertise this on the page linking to the rankings.

With all the coaches on the hot seat, and with what Leavitt has built at S FL, I am amazed his name hasn't come up more often as a top candidate. For example, I can only imagine what he might have done at MI were he hired instead of Rodriguez. Come to think of it, ND, Syracuse, or WA may be looking for a new coach. Didn't some one say Clemson might be looking as well? If the money & situation are right, it could happen.
