The SOS will flucuate all year long. It will stay pretty consistent from here on out. Playing bad teams does bring it down - just as playing good teams will bring it back up. I'm just using the "Sagarin Ratings" at www.sagarin.com. I think he's by far the most accurate. Some of the other "BCS Computer Rankings" are just wrong. Some have Boise at # 4. Others have Ohio State at # 4 or Ball State at # 9. They are just ridiculous. Sagarin's are always in "the ballpark". They may be a little off - but not much.

Re: Unofficial BCS Standings - Week 8 (Oct 19, 2008)

Thanks Tommie for your explaination, however the true SOS can only be determined after the season is over. Who would have ever thought that Arkansas or Colorado would have ever been considered lousy? Both had good 07 seasons Ark knocking off LSU and Colo knocking off OU and TTech and dont knock Rice or FAU, Rice has improved alot beat S Miss and FAU were the 07 Sunbelt champs. UTEP aint exactly Chatanooga and although they got hammered by Tulsa, they did beat UCF. I was just curious as how you got this info?

Re: Unofficial BCS Standings - Week 8 (Oct 19, 2008)

I would match up Penn State against any team in the country. Do you people not watch college game day. Corrso and Kirk both agree that Penn State is the best over all team in the nation. As everyone knows Corrso does not like PSU at all. So for him to say that is something. They have put up no less than 38 points a game and averaging 45/game. I do think that Texas deserves the #1 spot and yes Alabama at #2. But to say USC is going to win out and get invited to the BCS championship game is just stupid. Come on USC lost to Oregon State. Penn State crushed Oregon State. I agree the Big 10 is having a down year, but that does not take away from just how good Penn State is. Plus who, other than USC, is even worth talking about in the PAC-10? I would put Big 10 against the PAC-10 any day. GO PSU!!!

Re: Unofficial BCS Standings - Week 8 (Oct 19, 2008)

Hey lennie How long did you live In merridian?.....Just wondering im from Montgomery Al.We played Merridian a few years times in football In the early 90's.

Re: Unofficial BCS Standings - Week 8 (Oct 19, 2008)

Its just a connection you make when you've been raised on it your whole life. The problem is mentality. We're still very fragile mentally, and thats something that takes a season or two to recover from, maximum. They have to start BELIEVING they can win, and then they will. In the meantime, i'm patient -- and trying to not to have a stroke after watching our receiver break from his route wrong on the 4th and 5 play.

Re: Unofficial BCS Standings - Week 8 (Oct 19, 2008)

Missouri would have to go out and rent a defense before you could say that they would play with any team in the PAC10 or BIG10. They gave up 42 to an Illinois team that is struggling to score 20 against the good teams in the BIG10 (24 against PSU with a late excuse me touchdown).

Re: Unofficial BCS Standings - Week 8 (Oct 19, 2008)

Mizzou is a complete JOKE!!!! They beat Florida. They are coached by Houston Nutt (Arkansas coach last year). As the season has progressed this is my top ten:

Texas, Penn State, Alabama, Georgia, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Florida, Oklahoma, Southern Cal, and Ohio State

As for strength in schedule, unless you are in the SEC or Big 12 you can't talk about your schedule without feeling shame. There is no comparison this year, so just on conference scheduling, the SEC and Big 12 are far superior. Granted, there wasn't any conference play in the big 12 for the first four to five weeks, so their scheduled play for those weeks were pretty weak; however these past two weeks have produced huge Big 12 conference games. When was the last time you could say that about the PAC 10. I guess what I'm trying to say is, don't try to build SoCal up on its schedule, you wont convince anyone. They are a solid team that needs to make up some ground if they want the invite to the big dance.

Re: Unofficial BCS Standings - Week 8 (Oct 19, 2008)

Please allow me to introduce the Average Joe Theorem: What began as a hypothesis has become a theorem and soon to be proven as the Law of Average Joes. The Average Joe Theorem states: A Conference of SEC and Big 12 is nothing more than a bunch of Average Joe's forming a conference of their own, so that they may play no one other than themselves and a few Div I - AA teams for a single purpose of identifying the Ultimate Average Joe. And if that isnt enough, they match the two best average Joes at the end of the season. To prove this point, SEC and Big 12 is the only conference that would be proud to say they returned 12 players from last year's 7-5 season and expect to win their conference (because 7-5 is a rebuilding year). In any other conference, it is said that if you return a bunch of losers from a 7-5 season, you have nothing more than a bunch of losers that cant do better than 7-5. In the SEC, O'Miss beats FL, FL beats LSU, LSU beats O'Miss...but...Florida and LSU somehow should be crowned. Average Joes dude. Average Joes

Re: Unofficial BCS Standings - Week 8 (Oct 19, 2008)

Here's some stupidness: Penn State loses to Ohio State or Michigan State. PSU ends up as an at-large selection in the Orange Bowl against ACC champ... Florida State. We could get Vince McMahon involved and make it a loser-leave-town, steel cage career match. ;-)

Re: Unofficial BCS Standings - Week 8 (Oct 19, 2008)

Tomcat:

What's up with this rant? Baylor, Washington State and Iowa State all suck. What's that prove - that two of them are in the Big 12? Is that your point? Does this somehow make Oklahoma State into a Top Ten team? You better just hope that they're not. Don't worry. I'm sure that they are not. Don't get me wrong, they are good, but you've got to be real good to be Top Ten. My guess is that they'll end up at around 9-3 before bowl game time.

Re: Unofficial BCS Standings - Week 8 (Oct 19, 2008)

Tomcat:

This is gonna be hard to understand - but I'll do the best I can. Texas has played Florida Atlantic, UTEP, Arkansas, Rice and Colorado. All five of those lousy teams are on the schedule. Therefore, they count as part of the schedule strength. That's why your overall schedule is ranked around 24th. And, 24th isn't too bad. In fact - it's pretty good. Figure that there are 120 Division I teams - and that puts you in the Top 20%. With the brutal schedule that Texas will now be playing - that SOS should continue to rise. Texas should be in the Top Ten in the SOS before it's all over.

Re: Unofficial BCS Standings - Week 8 (Oct 19, 2008)

Th way Bama played on Saturday they do not need to be ranked in the top five.
