It would be interesting to see who the line picked for that one.
Then there are some of these match-ups. S FL/Houston? C MI/IL? WVU/FL Atlantic? Howzabout swapping WVU for N Western and letting my Mountaineers play KS. I can live with that, if WVU doesn't at least take 2nd in the Big East. Yeeesh! Watta mess!!!
I would have to call BS on the site though. Well, on second thought, LSU has had a favorable bowl game site here lately. Therefore, I digress.
And let me correct you last statement. I see an honest mistake in it. "It would be like old home week, after the game, Les congratulating Bob for getting another victory......STOLEN FROM HIM IN A BOWL GAME". The caps are just meant to highlight the change. I don't know the html tricks that most do.
And if the MNC game ends up with TT vs Fla, I'll take the over....which ought to be in the neighbohood of 75....lol.

Well if it all works out and we get to match up....and work permits.....I'm gonna try and make it that way. I know for sure we have a group of guys who go to nearly every LSU bowl game and I can jump in with them. Stay tuned for further updates.
Besides, there's someone there I want to try and meet up with....an old friend who lives in the area.

Now if you'd be so kind as to only getting 3 right this weekend in the Pick 'Em, myself and Clemson Joe would definitely appreciate it...lol.

No, seriously, I'd rather not win unless it was done right and competitively.

This week should shake things up. My picks don't look good at this point.
Maybe I'll try that. Makes my picks and then convince myself how bad they look......lol. I gotta try something!

Honestly, they look terrible right now. However, I have not done any of my usual background research before I made them. At this point though, I have FAR too many favorites picked for them to be correct. I plan on revising it all tomorrow though.
At least that's my take on it. It's easier in the NFL because players hang around longer. But in college, you've got so many coming and going that it's hard to be completely sure of the pick.
For instance: I forget which game it was 2 weeks ago but the visiting team (we'll call them team A) had covered the spread against this opponent (team B) the last three years straight. And two of the games were played at Team B's stadium. Also, when Team A was favored by more than 9, they covered 65% of their games. So the stars are lined up and it looked like a lock.
Wrooooooooooooooooong!
Not only did Team A not cover, they lost the game. I can go back and look that up once I get home (that's were my trends book is).
You know what....this week, I'm gonna flip a coin on every game. The team on the left is heads, the team on the right is tails. As the Good Lord as my witness, I'll follow the coin all the way out and not change a pick and see how it turns out.
This oughta be fun!

I don't use historical trends. I just watch as many games as possible and look at this season's info.
Do you really want to see OSU lose to another SEC team? I think you are better off losing to another conference and save all the heartache associated with losing to another SEC team. How cruel would 0-7, and 3 consecutive sound?
I want the challenge. How sweet would a win be? You can't be a champion unless you face your demons or beat the best. We all have to keep moving forward, bro.
Bama cant outscore Texas, neither can USC
I have been proven to be beyond fallible this year, though. :(
I'm thinking (now) (besides Arbys...):
TITLE: FLA vs. OU
ORANGE: MIA vs. PITT
SUGAR: BAMA vs. BSU
FIESTA: TEX vs. UTAH
ROSE: SCAL vs. PSU
If an SEC team is #1 and a Big 12 team is #2, the selection order will be:
Automatic berths for #1 and #2:
1) TITLE (FLA): I think FLA will win out and hand BAMA it's only loss in the SEC CG. I think OU will beat TXT and clear the way for FLA to play the Big 12 Champ.
2) TITLE (OU): I think OU will beat TXT and win the Big 12 and get the nod over TEX because they lost earlier in the season. (Which I don't agree with, but that's often the way it goes.)
Automatic berths for remaining conference champs that have tie-ins:
3) ORANGE (MIA): I think the 'Canes will win the ACC...because that's what I want and it's my list. :)
4) ROSE (SCAL): I think ORST will slip up, leaving SCAL to win the Pac-10 as usual.
5) ROSE (PSU): I don't see PSU losing again, and they'd win the Big Ten if they win out.
At-Large Berths for Bowls that lose their tie-ins:
6) SUGAR (BAMA) Since the Sugar loses it's SEC tie-in, they have first At-Large choice. [NOTE: It would be the first time a team lost a Conference Championship Game and made a BCS At-Large Berth, but I think BAMA will end with that as it's only loss and would be a great pick.]
7) FIESTA (TEX) Since the Fiesta loses it's Big 12 tie-in, they have second At-Large choice. TEX is a no-brainer choice given the available teams.
BCS Remaining At-Large Selection Order = A) Fiesta, B) Sugar, C) Orange
8) FIESTA (UTAH) I think they'd be happy to take Utah, especially since they'd get two picks in a row, they would truly get to choose their matchup, and TEX vs. UTAH would be intriguing.
9) SUGAR (BSU) This one I'm not so sure about, since they don't have to take a non-BCS team. However, they can't take another Big 12 or SEC team, and I don't see two BCS teams in the ACC, Big East, Big Ten, or Pac-10. Thus, a perfect Boise State would be a logical pick.
10) ORANGE (PITT) Like it or not, the Big East's Champ will likely be the last kid picked at kickball. Given the recent ACC-Big East history that the Orange Bowl has had, this wouldn't be a big problem. Personally, I'd love to see a matchup that has something to it, which is easily possible, like MIA/PITT, or FSU/WVU...
Ya know....since you asked.... :)
Who is likely to bring more fans, Texas or Texas Tech?
This is Utah's trump over Pitt also, as demonstrated in the 2004 Fiesta Bowl where Utah sold 10,000 tickets Pittsburgh could not sell.
This fact elevates some teams to Bowls they don't belong in (causing huge Bowl Loss Streaks like the one at Notre Dame), and sinks others to Bowls where they overmatch their opponents (causing huge Bowl Win Streaks like the one at Boston College).
Remember, Tyler, that all this is based on TEX, TXT, and OU all winding up tied with 1-Loss in the Big 12 South, and only one team controls their destiny - the Red Raiders...now that's something for you to smile about...
situation like this in the BCS era where 2 teams could be a up for a spot
out of the same conference with the same record. I would assume they would
take the head to head winner but who knows. I am chomping at the bit to
travel up to Norman in two weeks to see one hell of a game. :)
Wreck' em
Another wrinkle is that Oregon State could win the Rose Bowl bid by winning out, making USC an at large. Oregon State winning the PAC 10 is only palatable if USC manages to lose another game.
However, I just don't know what's going to happen with ILL and MICH. OHST should win both, but I just have that feeling about BSU getting in, considering the excitement brought to Glendale from their win over OU a few years back...
If it was the Sugar or Orange, though, I'd pick Ohio State to be chosen in a heartbeat.
Hotty Toddy!!
Seriously. I'll take Shreveport or Nashville at this point. Please?
What about the papajohns.com bowl in Birmingham?!
(Of course meaning an upset of Georgia....)
;)
Hawkeyes get to play in 2 bowl games this year. That should be fun.
However, that being said, I would love to see the Gators matched up against Texas in a bowl game.
MWC: Utah still needs to beat BYU.
Big 12: Texas, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State would all need to lose one and Texas Tech needs to lose 2 to be below Utah. It is more likely that 2 Big 12 teams are ahead of Utah than none or 1 are ahead of us.
SEC: Alabama must lose 2 and Florida must lose 1 to be behind Utah.
PAC 10: USC needs to lose 1. BYU is not enough to get Utah over USC.
BIG 10: Penn State may need to lose one. Michigan State might outweigh BYU, and SDSU is a serious liability.
The Big 12 south alone makes it look ridiculously impossible for Utah, or even USC, to get a foot in the door. It is more likely that 2 Big 12 teams get in than that a team not now in the top 5 gets in.
The only team in the top 5 I think Utah matches up with favorably (very long strech of the word I admit) is Alabama.
Go Canes! give us Notre Dame!
Although talk about an awesome Gator Bowl if they don't....wow...
but.
Randy Shannon isn't even in the same coaching WORLD as Nick Saban.
Miami will be in the dumps until y'all hire a real coach.
Shannon will most likely be gone after next season.
I think FLA would get the Capital One Bowl, and play Ohio State....whatcha think about that? :)
If Florida gets knocked out of the BCS, requiring 2 losses, they would land in the Capital One Bowl.

Our President elect wants a 8 team playoff
1- loss Tex
1-loss Fla
1- loss Bama
1-loss TTech
1- loss OU
1-loss PSU
1-loss USC
0-loss Utah
that would be the best for everybody-
I suspect a number of schools will have to step up and rebel against the BCS and the bowls before we will ever get a playoff system. The precedent for this happening is the CFA, in which a number of schools joined together and blew away the exisitng TV contracts for college football. Could it happen again? Here's hoping! :-)
We're looking for a little payback from last year...with that said, I really would not want the Ducks to be the team to deny you your Rose Bowl.
I said it all summer...Las Vegas, here we come!!! I have my reservations at The Wynn.
Utah, BYU or TCU?
one will be Florida, one will be Alabama, and both will dismantle any team they're paired up with unless it's USC.
that's my bowl prediction.
i can definitely see a letdown against south carolina.
1. south carolina always plays 'em tough
2. south carolina has a really good defense.
for alabama. maybe against Auburn, but i'm not worried at all about losing to Mississippi State.
they have a poor rushing defense. we have an amazing rushing offense.
we lead the SEC in rushing defense. they depend on running the ball.
as you can see, we will dominate.
i think florida will win by 21.
same with alabama.
Mississippi State might win against Alabama!
South Carolina might win against Florida!
I better not say beat OR someone will complain I am promoting violence!
you stay cool man. alright. don't let the man get you down.
fanblogs is a place to exercise your 1st Amendment right, as long as what you say isn't offensive to anyone....
the big xii has amazing QB play. Graham Harrell is a GREAT QB and can thread the needle.
but here's the thing:
no defense in the Big XII is as good as ANY defense in the SEC except for Arkansas.
how can i tell?
it's pretty easy. whenever you see a Big XII receiver catch the ball, he's wide-a** open. no matter what conference you cheer for you can see that as clear as day.
second, you rarely ever see a Big XII QB face any kind of pressure whatsoever. however, on the rare occasion they do face pressure, they don't fare well.
here's my bottom line:
- the Big XII has better QB play than the SEC
- the Big XII has more, good offensive attacks than the SEC
- the SEC has different good teams than are traditionally good, so everyone thinks they are down (Ole Miss filled in for Auburn. South Carolina filled in for Tennessee)
- the best teams in the SEC (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU, SC, Ole Miss) are better than the best teams in the Big XII (Texas Tech, Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma St., Kansas, Missouri)
- essentially, Florida runs the same offense as their Big XII counterparts, only they have much faster players, and possibly the best defense in college football.
and Florida has 1 loss in the SEC, to Ole Miss....
SEC > Big XII
Florida > Texas Tech - 99% sure
Alabama > Texas - 75% sure
Georgia > Oklahoma - 55% sure
LSU > Oklahoma St. - 70% sure
South Carolina > Missouri - 65% sure
Ole Miss > Kansas - 65% sure
but of course, that's just my view...
this is funny. it used to be the SEC vs. Pac 10 debate. now it's SEC vs. Big XII debate. the only difference is, we'll get to see the answer come bowl season...
This guy pretty much disagreed with you on every point, not saying he is right or anything. Just saying I thought it was funny.
We will see come bowl time. I will say that the SEC year in and year out is the toughest conference. BUT THIS YEAR I think the big 12 may be slightly better. It is tough to say what would happen if a Texas played say an Alabama. The only matchup we can draw to is Texas vs. Arkansas which was a 52-10 stomp, but I really do not think that is a fair estimation. Florida does not run the same spread at all though BC. Tebow throws the ball about 15 times a game, where at TTech, Texas, and OU throw the ball about 35 times a game. The kind of spread they run could best be related to that of West Virginia. I will say that the SEC is the best defensive conference, but it is all relative. The matchups I would like to see most are Texas vs. LSU. OU vs Florida and TTech vs. Alabama.(I am still pissed about that BS cotton bowl.) I think any defense would have a tough time stopping us, but I guess we will see in Norman and definitley in bowl time. I would love to play Bama in the N.C. so win out and I will do the same...........
but that's a good point. remember.
Texas Tech's offense that year was said to be unstoppable. Alabama held y'all to 7 points.
i think TT was averaging like 550 yards offense a game or something crazy like that.
Then again, Alabama had the best defense in the country that year, and probably one of the best defenses this decade. up there with '04 LSU and '04 Auburn.
lets see, Demeco Ryans (Texans star LB), Roman Harper, Anthony Madison, Ramzee Robinson, Jeremy Clark, and one other DL are all in the NFL from that defense.
it was unreal.
im pretty sure all the DBs had been playing together for 3 years.
i think there were 8 seniors on that defense. 6/8 were drafted.
also, Joe Kines, the DC is now coaching at Texas A&M.
even he couldn't turn that mess around.
he is like in his 60s though.
Look take any team from the SEC including Fla and Bama and give them
Colo,Ark,OK,Missu,OK St,TTech,BU,KU in consecutive weeks-Texas schedule
Sorry bubba there is no comparison
BU would do well against Ole Miss, Miss st, Vandy, Tenn, Ark,AU,USC etc etc
BU held A&M to 64 yds rushing and got 4 INT's yesterday- no defense?
BU 269 yds rushing- 241 yds passing
BU would do real well in the SEC, but they play in B-12 south with a first year coach and a Freshman QB, they would be ranked and Bowl bound if they were in the SEC
Teams like Texas dont get to play easy schedules like Bama and if yall get them in a bowl its going to be embarassing for the Tide faithful, because yall really aint ever faced a team like Texas and if yall had yall wouldnt be undefeated
Hookem-Horns
Any team that has a good defense will dismantle just about any team from the Big 12 this year. No team in the Big 12 has any defense whatsoever. It is going to be a total shock to any of these offenses, when they understand that the receivers are not open, and there are 300 pound people chasing the QB's who are faster than they are. This kinda thing is gonna happen in some of the bowl games this year. I'm not saying that any team could beat them. I'm saying that the teams with very good defenses will. Sadly, there are only a handful of teams that do have very good defenses, at the BCS level. USC, Alabama, Florida, Penn State, Arizona and maybe Ohio State would have a chance. I don't know of many other teams that play that good of defense that are BCS conference schools. We'll surely see somebody play a Big 12 team.
We will see if your predictions hold true come Bowl time
BTW Texas D held KU to 7 points yesterday
And, that was by far the best defensive effort put forth by any Big 12 team this year. Texas, probably more than any other Big 12 team, has the ability to go out and play some dominant defense. They just need to do it on a more consitent basis. They sure did the job against Kansas. That 35-7 victory, was far more impressive, than anything resembling some of these scores like 65-37. When Texas gets into their BCS bowl game - they are gonna have to buckle down on defense. Those games are gonna be really tough, and the games will be won with ball control, and hard-nosed defense.
We kinda have to pull for BU to beat TTech, which would be a huge upset and hope the Sooners stubble in Stillwater, both things could happen- ya never know. One thing is for sure- UT is gonna whup A&M in Austin Turkey day- it aint even gonna be funny. I attended the BU vs A&M game and the Bears stomped the Aggies, the A&M QB threw 4 int's and the Bears dominated the Aggs 41-7 at the end of the 3rd- game finished 41-21 after the Bears put in 2nd string and coulda scored again at the end but instead just ran the ball to the A&M 10 yard line, kneeled a couple of times letting time expire. Great Game
Other than one big pass play and a blocked punt- A&M couldnt do nothing
The Horns are gonna tear them a new one in Austin
Sicem-Bears
Hookem-Horns
Go Owls
Go Frogs
Look we dont like Sooners at all, doesnt matter who there playing
Other teams we dont like in order
Arkansas
Texas A&M
Texas Tech
Houston
SMU
These are listed as old rivals by level of dislike
Its really good to be a Longhorn fan because alot of teams dont like us and always give 100% in dreams of beating Texas on occasion. For Example Texas Techs win over Texas this year is a monumental moment in their programs history. When we beat them just about every year its no big deal and we have a history of knocking off #1 teams- so really no big deal- just putting things in perspective- To all the Tide fans I can just say welcome back- where yall been- targets on yalls back now.
Hookem-Horns
On another note, as a Bama fan, I must say that I am disconcerted to hear most people in the media postulating about whom Florida will play after they have beaten us in the SEC Championship. My only consolation is that a certain underestimated Alabama team I remember beat the bejeebers out of Miami once. I do think there is something almost metaphysical about college football, an unknown factor that can frustrate prognostications. For example, in my opinion, I don't think if you're Florida, you can say, "Well, Alabama beat Georgia this year, but we beat Georgia by a lot more points, so that means we're going to beat Alabama by a bunch of points." By the same token, Alabama could say, "Well, Ole Miss beat Florida at home, we beat Ole Miss, so we're a shoo-in to win." Either theory is untenable. As for how badly Florida and Georgia beat LSU, as compared to how Alabama beat them, all I can say is that LSU acted like they were playing for their lives against us last Saturday? Or could it possibly have been for the life of a certain former coach they don't care for?
