Yeah, so did I, so here it is again:

"...They grow 'em pretty sharp there on the plains, huh?

...but I thought I might've chased a few more fish out of the net, had I let it stand. (Actually I was flying out the door, or I would'a retracted the other one as well...probably even the edited one...).

Oh well....at least the reply prevented him from editing his question--so there it is, in all its glory:

Go ahead and mount that one, Ben!

No, it's for serious! I heard about it yesterday from a really reliable source, but I didn't tell you guys about it cause I forgot.
  • The_Observer · 8 months ago
Also, I heard Auburn is just gonna shut down it's football progam and help pay for Alabama's Stadium expansion (up to 175,00 seats) so that there will be enough room for Auburn fan's to go to Alabama's game days and talk about how much they don't care about Alabama.

Again, it's from a very reliable source.
  • Ben Prather · 8 months ago
    Argh...

I forgot to include the Saban quote, glad Utah would be in the Rose Bowl so he didn't have to worry about seeing them for a long while.

I also heard the Alabama football team's giving away free textbooks. I was wondering if you, "The_Observer" attend the University? If so could you get me a copy of Differential Equations by Dennis G. Zill and Michael R. Cullen. Thank you.
  • The_Observer · 8 months ago
Well, I probably have my old Diff EQ book packed up in a box somewhere. I'll give you a really good deal on it (its only about 5 years old).

As far as the free textbooks go...I am just glad you supported my original statement with that retort. One would think you might defend your "program" instead of hoping for UA to catch some NCAA violations. Keep hoping, maybe Auburn will get their wish...Death Penalty!
  • Cobia · 8 months ago
Look, I'm not concerned with the cocaine, pitbulls, armed battery, textbook violations, etc in Tuscaloosa. I mean the list of infractions could go on forever. I also could care less about whether or not UA is suspended accordingly. In regards to Auburn's program I'll be the first to admit we had a pretty mediocre season last year, but one bad season does mean or program is in jeopardy. One lose to Alabama out of the past seven years does not mean the tables have turned. I am sorry the tides have not changed.
  • Bama_Babe · 8 months ago
"one bad season does mean our program is in jeopardy"

Could a typo serve as a hint about the future?? Hmm..

And the last two sentences make me laugh. Sure, a 1-6 record vs Auburn the last 7 years does not mean "the tables have turned". However, program wise, you might be wrong. The numbers we are talking about here are 12-2 and 5-7. The Tide? Oh, it's changed.

And let's throw out another one: 5-19. You might should give your boy Chizik a fair chance and let him win a game or two in the SEC before you start talking about the numbers Tommy Tuberville put up. Chizik has done nothing. So, as of right now - the tables have turned - program wise. And from my view, the room and the rest of the furniture looks pretty darn good.
  • Cobia · 8 months ago
Bama_Babe, if we are going to talk about typos then lets get into a English Blog... You are in fact right. Chizik has not proven himself in the SEC. You may want to do a little research on the Iowa State's previous seasons before you shoot him down. "God Saban" could not turn a program like that around in a few years. The recruiting is horrible there. What decent recruits that area has go to The University of Iowa. This is the SEC, where recruits want to come and play. Granted bama has talent, most of whom are gone. I realize you have had back to back top recruiting classes, but that is high school babe. The rating system is real touchy. You may want to learn just how they rate players before you start a conversation on that topic. Auburn, on the other hand has a lot of young talent. We have a new unproven coach. The great thing about all this is, he is surrounded by PROVEN assistants. Some of THE best coaches in the nation have come to Auburn. If you deny this you are not "one of the boys" and DO NOT know football. You guys had a "Cinderella" season no doubt you were good. I mean you did beat Auburn's worst team in years, 36-0. Unlike Auburn, you guys fail to beat teams at the end, when it REALLY counts. As an Auburn fan I'm not one to dwell in the past. I must, however bring up the fact in 2004 we did win 13 games, and we DID win the Sugar Bowl. Did you? no. Did you win the SEC title game? NO! Your bama team was mediocre at best. Great teams win when it counts. We and the nation know you can not win. I can name three games you should have lost... Kentucky, Ole Miss, and LSU. If I made a mistake I apologize, but I assure you I did not. Those games just put you record from 12-2 to 9-5. But with those losses your record could have been more like 9-3 if you did not go to the SEC title game or the Sugar bowl. Since we are throwing out things, let's throw out this... How many coaches did you actually have during our streak? Four? I'm sorry I normally lose count after two maybe three. Also I think it's a great idea to lower you ACT scores, boost up you student population, have outstanding parking permit costs in order to afford a higher like Saban. An unfaithful coach at that. If you guys do get put on probation for the textbook violations do you think he will actually stay? NO! Saban runs to where he can win and make money. He ran from Miami and he will run from you. Honestly you can have him! I will take a man who will take a pay cut to get coaches he needs vs. a man who will bail on his team for more money. I'm sorry babe the tables have not yet turned... WAR DAMN EAGLE!!!
  • Bama_Babe · 8 months ago
Hahahahaha. Thank you for making my day. That post was just hilarious.

Now let me make a few points.

FIRST - Sure, Iowa State is a tough place to win, gets no recruits, blah blah blah. But if you have a GOOD coach, you can recruit and slowly inprove the program. Chizik won 3 games the first year and 2 the second. That's not improvement by any means. Chizik hasn't won a game since September 9. Granted, he has yet to have his chance in the SEC, but time will tell.

SECOND - Ok, let's reread what you wrote. "Granted bama has talent, most of whom are gone. I realize you have had back to back top recruiting classes, but that is high school babe." We have talent, most of whom are gone?? And you followed that sentence by saying we've had back to back top recruiting classes..? That makes absolutely no sense. The point of great recruting is that when talent leaves, more comes in. Most of Alabama's talent is NOT gone. Sure, the OL needs much work. And sure, we have a new QB. But if you haven't heard, we have 9 returning starters on defense. The same defense that finished in the top 10 last year. And top recruiting classes = TALENT. So I don't see how you came to the conclusion that our talent is gone.

THIRD - There's no need for you to explain to me the process of recruiting and rankings of players. I know how they rate players. I also know how you people like to think that players that commit to Alabama have their star-rating increased. Whatever. Great players are great players, and that is what Saban is bringing in. I also think it's funny how you say Alabama has had top recruiting classes but that's high school, then you follow by saying Auburn has a lot of young talent. Where are those players coming from if not high school??? Exactly.

FOURTH - "[Chizik] he is surrounded by PROVEN assistants. Some of THE best coaches in the nation have come to Auburn. If you deny this you are not "one of the boys" and DO NOT know football."
Haha. Sure Auburn has great assistants. But Alabama has great assistants PLUS a great coach. You can't win with just assistants, sweetie. Is Chizik a great coach? We do not know yet. All I have to judge from is his Iowa State career.
I don’t know about football?? I think plenty of posters on Fanblogs can vouch for me on that one…

FIFTH – No need to lecture me on how our season went. I was at all 14 games and know very well what happened and what didn’t. ”I can name three games you should have lost... Kentucky, Ole Miss, and LSU… with those losses your record could have been more like 9-3 if you did not go to the SEC title game or the Sugar bowl.”
Sure, Alabama didn’t play their best in any of those games. Sure, Alabama could have been 9-3. But that didn’t happen now did it? Alabama won those games and finished 12-0 before losing to better teams in Florida and Utah. What about Auburn? They could have/should have lost to Mississippi State and been 4-8. It doesn’t matter though. What happened, happened – no need to pull the ‘what if’ or ‘could have’/'should have' cards.

SIXTH – As for the whole diss at the University and how they handle things? That’s a whole other argument that I will not go into today. Keep praying that Alabama will get hit hard with the textbook violations. As for now, I can’t wait until September. Good Luck to you this fall.

    That’s all ;)

It's the type of beating that a coach will retire after (or get fired after 10 years)!

It's the type of beating that ruins legacies!

It's the type of beating that makes 6 previous victories feel meaningless!

It's the type of beating that is indefensible!

    36-0!

Tommy T scampers out of town and Chizik rolls in...it's a great day in Opelika!
  • Cobia · 8 months ago

  • Cobia · 8 months ago
The_Observer, who you were going for in the SEC title game? I mean I'd like to think you aren't a fair-weather Alabama fan. I hope you aren't jumping onto the UF championship ship, because they are the best team now. It seems perplexing and illogical that you could like another SEC team, which has beating UA in a couple really big games recently.
  • The_Observer · 8 months ago
Raised a Gator, graduated from Alabama.

Yeah, it can get complicated, but most of the time it is enjoyable.

In the SECCG, I pulled for Florida. In everyday life, it is more fun and more necessary for me to argue for Alabama. I like stirring it up with you guys! You get so defensive, its fantastic!

There really isn't a whole lot of people to argue with me about Florida recently. Also, compared to Alabama, Florida is the medias golden child, so not a whole lot of controversy.

So, that leaves me mostly talking about Alabama. Today I was bored at work and decided to instigate a discussion with an Aubie. It happened to be you, thanks for cooporating!

    A LOT!

But the score last year was still 36-0!

And Tubbs still left town with his tail tucked between his legs!

And Gene Chizik is still your head coach.

Anyways, I thought it was Auburn fans that always preached to Alabama fans bout living in the past.

Well, let me be the first to welcome you to reality...last year Alabama devastated Auburn 36 to 0!!! HAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!
  • Cobia · 8 months ago
By not answer or even acknowledging my previous question, I assume that you are in fact a fair weather Alabama fan. You jump on the band wagon of whatever team is on top like clockwork.

Trying to have legitimate football discussions with you is a futile effort, and there is not point in continuing this debate. I really hope for your sake that you aren't over the age of 12.
  • TampaGator · 8 months ago
    Cobia:

Observer clearly answered--and thereby acknowledged--both of your questions:

"...Again how many coaches did you go through while coach T was cleaning house?..."

    Answer: "...A LOT!..."

"...who you were [sic] going for in the SEC title game? ..."

Answer: "...In the SECCG, I pulled for Florida..."

So your rationale for pulling the plug on the debate, has no basis. Leave it as is, and we're gonna' have to declare TO winner by TKO!

    Carry on....

    7-3

    16-11

    7-6

Since you like quoting your 36-0 figure, I thought I'd give you a few more to savor.

The first one is the worst possible record Auburn will have against Alabama to finish out this decade. It could be as high as 8-2.

The second one is Auburn's record against Alabama since the Bear retired. I don't know if you've been on the planet that long, but I like throwing that one out so we don't have to live 'in the past'.

And the third is Saban's record his first year at Bama. Just curious if you think that Chizik will beat that or not. Answer honestly...
  • The_Observer · 8 months ago
For starters, I never said that Auburn has been a bad program or anything. They have been an elite program for the last decade under TT and certainly better than Alabama.

Do I think Chizik will be better than 7-6 next year? Yeah, I do. I am surprised any year Auburn has more the 3 or so losses. I expect them to compete every year.

    But....

Do I think Chizik is better than TT? No.

    Do you?

Do I think Chizik is as good as TT? No.

    Do you?

Do I think you think Chizik is as good or better? No.

Do I think Auburn will maintain its momentum under Chizik? Honestly, no.

I think Chizik is a big gamble that Auburn couldn't afford to make with Saban accross the state.

Maybe Chizik will be great or maybe he won't. But I doubt seriously that anyone is very confident he will.

    That is my honest opinion.

Yeah, Ben, too bad USC had to join the MWC at the same time BYU, TCU, and Utah decided to join the Big East. Ole Mike the big Chimpanghese had to pull an ACC type raid on somebody, as if there weren't enough somebody's out there feeling his pain. So, he picked on the MWC. I can't wait to see USC 5 years from now joining the Big 12, and claiming to do so because only 8 teams from the MWC were ranked in the past 5 years (USC being 5 of the 8, Boise St taking up the other 3). But, don't feel bad. Notre Dame's decided to join a conference. What with all the holes to fill in the MWC, they figured, "Why not?" Of course, that was just to spite the Big Televen. Know what's really nutty? I once used the same instrument (the one Bill Murray's character used to sniff that refrigerator) to check air quality in confined spaces on ships. I didn't find any dogs in there either.

What I did find once should get a chuckle outta uze guyze. I was crawling through some inner-bottom tanks on a large oil/bulk carrier. As I passed through each bulkhead clearing the space ahead of me, I noticed a sound getting louder as I proceeded forward. Finally I cleared another bulkhead, where the sound seemed to be coming from off to the left. When I shone my flashlight in that direction, there were 2 shipyard workers making lus...ahem...love. This had taken me as much by surprise as it did them (especially given I had not yet cleared the space as habitable). Not knowing what else to do or say, I simply told them they didn't have to stop, but they had to wear their hard-hats & safety glasses. I mean, what the heck; rules are rules, ya know!?!

Well one thing Chizak has done in his favor. He has generated a lot of excitement
around the plains. Cautiously i might add. I predict youll see a glimps of that on A day.
He has also put together a very good staff which he didnt have at Iowa State. Not to mention a pretty good player talent base. So im optimistic. Do i think we will win the SEC this year, probably not, but id settle for an 8 or 9 win season and a win over Georgia or Bama.
