Fanblogs.com: Utah Attorney General may sue the BCS

  • Regan · 11 months ago
So Utah wasn't in a BCS Bowl?
  • DuckCanuck · 11 months ago
Perhaps the Constitution should be amended to grant the President in office the sole power to select a national champion. Why not.
  • Tommy_Trojan · 11 months ago
    DuckCanuck:

Because then we'd have only BIG 10 teams for National Champions. If I were the President of the United States of America - USC would be National Champs every year. Do you see what the problem might be?
  • DuckCanuck · 11 months ago
Let's not kid ourselves--it makes about as much sense as the BCS.
  • Mr2Bits · 11 months ago
President of the United States of America - USC would be National Champs every year.

This is known as ESPN and their commentators every pre-season
  • BamaBorn · 11 months ago
Brent Pussberger "quote of the bowl season", (during the USC/Penn State game).

"Ladies and gentlemen, you have to ask yourself, IS USC number 1"?
  • loogy · 11 months ago
LOL. That'd be as insane as having college football coaches, all of whom have financial incentives based on how their team does that season, vote in a poll that helps decide which teams go where every year,......Oh,....wait.....
  • FriedChicken455 · 11 months ago
Barack Obama will never carry Utah. It is full of Mormons.
  • Kevin @ Fanblogs · 11 months ago
    That's just ignorant.
  • Ben Prather · 11 months ago
A democrate will never carry Utah. It would be like a Republican winning Washington DC's Mayor.
  • FriedChicken455 · 11 months ago
    But oh so true.
  • Kevin @ Fanblogs · 11 months ago
Another stupid politician just trying to get his name in the papers. Every couple of years there's some jack@ss that has to stand up and prove what a peener he really is.
  • loogy · 11 months ago
Is it the Utah AG's election year? Obvious pandering,...but I still hope he takes it all the way ;)
  • gatorhippy · 11 months ago
This is like suing your boss for not giving you the corner office after he gave you a fat bonus for doing your job...
  • TampaGator · 11 months ago
    Great analogy.

    GO GATORS!!
  • loogy · 11 months ago
No, I think it's more like not promoting a woman over a man, even though the man was less productive, because this is a "man's job".
  • Tom_Blogical · 11 months ago
This is a stupid political stunt, but it's nothing new in the world of politics today. It's not surprising these stunts carry over into the sports world.

The worst thing that can be done is to pay attention to it...OOPS!

Congress held steroids hearings to demonize the players and make MLB owners look clean as the driven snow. Arlen Spector just held hearing into the NFL Spygate and Al Franken is about to become the US Senator from Minnesota.
Mark Shurtleff looks like a square shooter and I think he is right.
Bring on a playoff of conference champions. It wouldn't have helped Texas this year but after the thrashing that Utah gave Alabama last week, it would have given Utah a chance at the glass football.
  • Tom_Blogical · 11 months ago
I agree with Shurtleff in principle, but that's not the point. He's using the power of his elected position to try to influence something that will fix itself eventually. Even if it doesn't work itself out, there's no way he can substantiate his claims. Financial hardship my rear end. This is something that won't sit well with any of the voters, including those who support him.

The last thing we need is for the government to be meddling in our personal affairs (any more than what they already are, that is). That's not what America is about.
  • hrposon · 11 months ago
Everything works itself out in time. Congress can only speed up or slow down the process. I would prefer that they work on reducing the deficit but in lieu of doing the impossible, fixing the BCS is a start.
The fifth BCS game was the result of a lawsuit and because the NCAA and BCS position was so wrong, they caved in a New York minute.
  • Tom_Blogical · 11 months ago
    Commie! (Just kidding.) :-)
  • hrposon · 11 months ago
Not me.... I'm from the reddest of the Red States.
  • Tom_Blogical · 11 months ago
Just to make sure you know...I was completely joking.
  • shiguy · 11 months ago
Nebraska??? I mean that would be both political and team wise :-)
  • shiguy · 11 months ago
That would require us to stop spending money on things like people's 4th crack baby and paying autoworkers 70K a year to turn a wrench....wait they don't do that anymore ok 70K a year to press the start button.
  • CaneResurrection · 11 months ago
Where was Shurtleff two years ago when Boise State went undefeated? Where is Tommy Tubberville calling for a playoff? Where is Mike Adams saying this wasn't what the conferences signed on for? None of these nutjobs care about the system in place unless it's their school on the outside looking in. Then they don't care anymore once the next season starts. That's why I don't put any faith in this crap.
  • DownWithUtah · 11 months ago
Utah couldn't beat Florida if the gators spotted them 42 points. Utah should not be number one because they play above average football. I say... let Utah play the gators and we can watch all you Utes be disappointed with a crushing loss.
  • rocket_man · 10 months ago
After going undefeated most of the season, ranked #1, Alabama ran into the best team in college football. With their championship hopes now a figment of their imagination, htey had to play a lowly Utah. Nothing to win and who cares if they lose. Utah caught Alabama with about 10% motivation to play another game.

The SEC, America's Toughest College Football conference. Florida won the conference championship (remind me, did Utah play in a conference championship game???) Then they played another #1 team and beat them too. Can anyone in Utah really compare their schedule to the SEC teams? Especially Florida? The only thing that needs to change in the BCS is this... If you don't play in a conference that has a conference championship game, find someone else in the same boat and play them.
