I love VT and I am happy they are going to the ACC game next's week.I hope they win.But I don't think they will.I am from VA.just from VT,I have love them always and will always stand with them.and for sure next's week.But I think that it would have been a better game with Boston and GT. but for the lost to VT they would be there.Dose VT have the right to be there?I think they do they beat GT and with that VT will be at the game and I hope in a few weeks in a BCS game.GO VT!!!!!!

The only draw back that I see is that if you take a head coaching job anywhere, granted you make more money, is that if you dont produce in 2-3 years your head is on the choppin block and your out of a job especially if your new in town and do not have a long standing history with the school. You think Foster's job would ever be in jeopardy in VT? The mans a hero in Blacksburg. Stay there, great job security, plus the man has family there, history there and love for the area.

I've wondered over the years if there was some kind of informal deal with Foster (see the Jimbo Fisher thread http://www.fanblogs.com/flo.... Numerous times over the years I remember his name coming up under consideration for head coach openings. I seem to recall him pulling himself out of consideration once or twice.

You're absolutely right, Joe. Now, here's a nutty question. What if you have this "Coach In Waiting", and because of a string of lousy seasons, the HC gets axed, and the Admin don't pick up you know who? Where is he then?

The more I think about it, the less likely that Mushcamp will actually be the head coah at UT. This is more or less for Texas to keep him in the fold for a couple more years. I honestly don't see Mack Brown retiring in the next couple of years. I think it works well if the coach is retiring in a few years, anything more than three years seems like a wasted for the desinated "coach-in-waiting" where there are other great openings out there. With that said, I don't think Foster is going to stick around.

These things can cut both ways...

The only difference being is that Jimbo, Joker, & Will are all known bright minds and great recruiters...and I'd be lying if I said I'd ever heard of Beilema prior to Alvarez naming him as his replacement...

Of course it would work at FSU. Fisher knows that he'll have the job in 3 years or less. That's not long to wait, and it offers a transition period. It hasn't necessarily "worked" at Texas yet. We'll see if Muschamp gets any offers this offseason, and if he does, I'd imagine he'll take it if he has any interest. Mack Brown doesn't seem too close to retirement, and in my opinion, neither is Frank Beamer.

For instance, if my boss came to me and said, "Joe, we're going to give you my job when I'm done, but that could be a while." and another company came to me and offered me that same position right now, I might be very hard pressed to stay where I am. I think most would feel this way.

It worked at FSU to keep Fisher; it worked at TX to keep Muschamp. It just might work at VA Tech to keep Foster. Then again, he might surprise us all and go to Syracuse. Well, come on! It's not as if stranger things haven't happened.

What is that really worth anyway? If a decent program offers a "coach in waiting" enough money, with the exception of Jimbo Fisher who is surely due up in 3 years or less, I don't see any of the "coaches in waiting" sticking around and not leaving to take over their own program.

Beamer is 62 yrs. old. You never know how long these guys will coach but the chances of him hanging it up in the next 5 yrs. is likely. So, the question becomes, "Does Foster want to wait that long?" I doubt it. He has the opportunity right now to accept the challenge of head coaching AND make more money! I don't think VT can keep him if Clemson offers him a substantial deal.
