I agree....coaches know much more about their respective conferences then the media does. It is definitely going to be an interesting season in the WAC. I am particularly looking forward to the first four games Frtesno State is playing.....Rutgers in NJ....Wisconsin at home......Toledo away and UCLA at their place.........some good games await Bulldog Nation......see you there.

93rd in turnovers and middle of the pack nationally isn't going to get it done. I don't think the offense will be able to cover for the defense this year.

Hawaii has never really had a defense? I'm sorry but the last 2 years Hawaii's defense has been very good. Defense needs to drastically improves, dude the line backing core is the best in school history, and this defense could be way better than last years.

You could, and I would definitely agree with that argument. The point I was making was that they'll finish worse than 4th in the WAC. I watched them play several games last year, including the game in which they struggled mightily against San Jose St. With Brennan. Their defense is really bad; if I had the time, I would compare their defense of last year with their previous ones. Alas, I don't have the time and...it's the WAC! ;-)

Again, that's just my opinion. You very well may be right, and you bring up a very good point about Hawaii not ever having a defense to write home about, and being near 4th consistently.

Newport, RI, is a beautiful, but awfully expensive, little town. They'd be better off holding it in Hartford, CT, and that place is a friggen Zoo. Instead of in the "big city", or some expensive little substitute, why not hold the meeting elsewhere? Why not Williamsburg, VA or Charlotte, NC? By what rule does it have to be held in the northeast?

I could argue that 4th in the WAC is significantly worse than a BCS invite. I see them going about 6-7, 4-4 in conference. This could easily be a tie for fourth place, especially if Fresno and Boise dominate the league as expected.

In addition to not having a defense, they lost Brennan. I don't think the next QB will be as in tune with the offense, so I see them doing much worse. You know what opinions are like, though. Everybody's got one.

This is what the WAC media and coaches picked. It is closer to where they usually end up than last years results.

Frankly Hawaii has never had much defense and has been at or near the top 4 in the WAC without one.

Hawaii will not finish 4th. Unless their defense drastically improves, they'll be near the bottom of the pack.

I will agree that these games may be closer than some of the others listed as underdogs, but I can't say that they are a tossup either.

SDSU vs San Jose State, maybe that one should be a toss up.

Perhaps I am guilty of a MWC bias. Ok, maybe this is certain.

I plan on grading these conferences mid season based on these game levels. If I have over stated, or understate, a conference, it will appear then.

SDSU and UNLV are consistently horrible as well. Is hard to say that a crap team is an underdog to another crap team. In fact, SJSU should be favored against SDSU, and Utah State is 3-1 against UNLV over the past 10 seasons. UNLV has had equal success against Utah over that time period.

Why Birmingham? Don't know but the offices have been there since 1948.

I agree with your assessment of Slive and I've probably watched him longer than most since I had to put up with him when he was commissioner of C-USA (I'm a Louisville fan at heart) He wasn't anymore above board then. The idea that he is the one who is going to deliver a real football playoff is laughable on its face. He couldn't convince any other conference to follow him across the room to an open bar.

The interesting thing about the SEC and NCAA violations is that the schools are always turning each other in. I think it happens more in the SEC than in any other conference. Elsewhere, violations come to the NCAA's attention through other means - newspapers, message boards, TV stations - just not so many fellow conference member tips. You get the schools who lost a recruiting battle but not so much your conference rival because you are all tied together economically. The more success everybody has on the field/court, the more money everybody makes. The SEC seems to care less about that and more about the rivalry and taking a pound of flesh out of the school who stole your recruit.

Why is Bobby Gaston's of the SEC Office brother working for Nick Saban all of the sudden?

Why is Mike Slive so proud of "No NCAA Violations"? It's because he instituted "The Fulmer Rule" that no coaches or member institutions could go to the NCAA with possible recruiting and/or other violations without running them through his office first.

He sweeps it under the rug...He should change his name to Mike Slime...

He's garbage, and a bagman that's hidden more violations than he's ever helped to stamp out...

The SEC media day is in Birmingham because that's where the conference office is. The Big East holds media days in Newport because well, where would you rather be in July - Newport or New York or Providence? The league offices are in Providence and basketball media days are usually held in NYC.
