Fanblogs.com: Weis going all in at Notre Dame?

  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
There is a reason Urban Meyer chose Florida over Notre Dame.

I am still hoping Weis can pull out the upset over USC. That could easily get him another year. At least ND should be in a bowl game this year. If they can beat one of Navy or Syracuse they will be somewhere.

Wow! A 1 and 15 record against teams with a winning record? That's got to be humiliating for the 1 team!

    Oh. It was Georgia Tech?

    Nevermind.

It all starts with the O and D lines--they both stink. Notre Dame can't run the ball beacuse the line can't or won't block--therefore they have become one dementional and that is a recipe for defeat. Apparently they still don't understand the fundmantals of blocking and tackling and to play with intensity and finish a play.O yes, fire the line coach!

I believe they were on the road at BC Kevin

Indeed they were. That's what I get for trying to do two things at once. D'oh!

There is no way under the sun that USCal is going to lose to NDame.

Ibu: If they lose to Navy, are you going to stand up for Weis and say it was because they played in Md.???

If NDame can't beat Navy, some think it will be the end to Weis.

"A school's illustrious reputation is at stake here. You lose two in a row to Navy, you might as well schedule the Coast Guard next."

As to NDame going to a bowl game, do you think they deserve to? Here's a quote for you to consider regarding Weis and his team:

"Of his five successes this season, four have come against San Diego State (1-9), Washington (0-9), Michigan (3-7) and Purdue (3-7)."

Give credit to Clemson and Tenn. At least some schools know when enough is enough.

Honestly, I thought the addition of Jon Tanuta (DC, from Ga Tech) was going to make a difference; I even thought so after the Michigan win, figuring the SDSU game to be the last vestige of last season's disgrace--and therefore an aberration. IMO, the Michigan game is the only game they've shown anything that remotely resembles an ability to play physical FB under Weis (including '05 USC game).

Coinicidentally--that game--the Michigan game--was the one where they erected the statue of Lou Holtz, who spoke to the team; the '88 champs were also there. In other words, it wasn't Michigan, it wasn't Weis firing the team up, it wasn't Tanuta...it was Holtz and the 88 champs, that got that team to play decent ball.

...and the OL--a perpetual laughing stock under John Latina.

The only thing saving Weis is that 10 year monstrosity of an extension ND gave him last year. Long term, I think it would be economically wise to can him after this season; short term though, the hit might appear to be a bit too much, so I think they shy away, and hunker down for probably 2 more seasons.

My understanding is that Weis still has a lot of "good will" capital stored up with the admin, and the alumni--which is another way of saying they're still in denial/making excuses for the guy/kool-aid drinking mode, and for the most part, haven't hit mob-mentality mode yet (ie. w'ham in '04), or at least haven't swallowed the bitter pill of reality, that Charlie Weis sucks as a CFB HC.

    My $.02.

    GO GATORS!!

Bring back Holtz! Bring back Holtz! Please!!! Get him off my ESPN!

Weiss' record is no better than Willingham's, Davie's, or Faust's, so I predict he will join that select club of ex-ND coaches no later than this time next year...

I am still waiting for Irish JT to tell me how to think about the situation.
  • NDfaninNC · 1 year ago
Weis needs to call the plays from here on out. Haywood is not the answer. He has no clue when to mix up the run and pass plays. Too often we abandon whichever is working that kills our momentum. The offensive line and defensive line coaches need to go, too. We seem to get blown off the ball against lesser opponents way too often. It is inexcusable for us to have more than 2 losses the entire year. Weis needs to overhaul most of the coaching staff if he wants to save his job. This offseason could get real interesting.
  • PittsburghTiger · 1 year ago
I don't understand when folks say something like what NDfaninNC said about getting blown off the ball by a lesser opponent. If they, and I mean anyone, are doing that to a team then they are not really a lesser opponent...are they?

And I am not attacking him....it's just a comment about anyone who says something like that.

I have to agree with TampaGator - the 10 yr. contract with all the money attached is likely keeping NDame from dumping him this year. But as soon as the fans start to lose interest like they did at Tenn, it will be the end. I wonder if losing to Navy might not be the last straw.

I hope he stays around two more years. I hope he starts losing recruits next! I hope Notre Dame continues to go downward!
  • Tommy_Trojan · 1 year ago
I hope that they never fire him. I hope he coaches for another twenty years there. We'll have a 26 game winning streak by then. It'll last us well into the next century. GO (I mean stay) CHARLIE CHEESEBURGER!

NOTRE DAME last AD jumped ship for what I think was his intuition that ND was a sinking ship and that the only accolades he would take with him was the hireing of CW and the gracious contract extention to 2015 with a accumulated financial windfall of about 30-40 million dollars. Why ELSE WOULD A AD LEAVE a dream job of high exosure ????/
  • john ebbitt · 1 year ago
The jury is still out on ND's line play, but they did better. Still you have to take into consideration they out weighed Navy's line by 30 lbs per man and Navy still put up one hell of a fight. It's going to be a long day when they play SC and their line is as big yet a lot faster. They still don't play with intensity and finish there blocks--especially on pass plays--if they don't correct this sad state of affairs SC will kill them. As much as Weis likes Clausen he has a problem reading the defense and any pressure gives him trouble.Their special teams need some serious coaching. They are better than last year but have a long way to go to be considered a quality team.

HELL YEAH! BEAT THE MIDSHIPMEN 27-21!
    CURRENT STREAK-1 GAME!
seriously though, huge ND fan, we gotta find a person who can recruit as good as weis but coach like an urban meijer (sorry nd fans hes a good coach but he is gay)
    go irish
2009-2011 we will win a championship at least once if weis actually puts together a offensive AND DEFINSIVE scheme
  • john ebbitt · 1 year ago
WHAT CAN I SAY, THEY STINK--they need a complete make over in the off season--fire a few coaches and come next year with a new attitude about winning-- Poor fundmentals all the way around-- Weis needs to reflect on what a poor job he has done coaching this team--the days of trying to get it done withh smoke and mirrors are over--
