Fanblogs.com: Welcome to the BnL Army-Navy game in Boise!

  • Dave · 1 year ago
Not sure but I may be the first Academy grad to weigh in here. I am a traditionalist. Philadelphia is equidistant from Army to Navy. Truly a neutral site. Ticket sales on on a hierachical (sp?) basis and therefore the general public rarely (in recent years anyway) gets an opportunity to buy them. Students, Parents of students, alumni.
I do agree that it would be nice to showcase the nation's rivalry throughout the nation. But as indicated before, who's paying the transportation costs. I enjoyed the trip to Pasadena (Rose Bowl) in 1983. All airfare and lodging was donated by the community. Will that ever happen again??? Not sure.
Speaking of the Rose Bowl: I love the fact that it's still the Rose Bowl. I grew up with the Rose Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Orange Bowl.
Now it's the Nokia this and the Fedex that and the OMG the Carquest Bowl??

Please Mr Gladchuk, don't let it become the Weedeater Army-Navy Game. Somethings should be left as they are. It's ARMY-NAVY. You hear that and you don't even have to ask if it's a football game. You just know!

I'm glad you came on here and it looks like $$$$$$ and greed are going to change tradition, whether we like it or not. My bet is Jerry Jones new stadium and it will be so comercialized that we probably cant even pay attention, heck the game will probably last 5 hrs.
as far as transportation cost go, arent the Army & Navy government entities?
They have their own planes and fuel depots, I really dont see a problem with transportation.

    FIRST! (going with the trend)

I have no problem with a company sponsoring it but I think it should be only 1-year contracts and the game should move from city to city (and venue to venue). That way the game is always played on a neutral ground and patriots around the country will get the opportunity to enjoy this honorable event.

I like your idea of rotating the game around the country on a 1 game per city basis. However, I would like for the game to remain free of any sponsors. If they need sponsors, how about the Army and the Navy? Other than that, leave this classic alone.
  • Kevin @ Fanblogs · 1 year ago
Agreed. Rotating is fine but please leave your tacky corporate sponsor at home.

If you went with the NFL Europe decals, would you offer maybe a discount rate for the second string players and premium rates for star positions?

I think there is real money here...

Just in case any one missed it that was satire

I just hope the RRR don't change sponsors from AT&T to Viagra, now that could keep you up all night......
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
I think Viagra is holding out for a South Carolina vs Oregon State game.
  • Ramblin' Gator · 1 year ago
Yeah, but USC will get in the way.

Lennie says "coordinate". I say cut costs. Play the friggen thing at Giants Stadium in Jersey. That's just about mid-way between the 2 academies. Can you imagine how much it would cost now-a-days to send both teams', bands, students, and their fans to Pasadena, let alone Atlanta?

As for sponsorships, it's the stupid commercials we all love to hate that pay for most of the games. Rather, where the bulk of the revenue comes from. That doesn't mean I want to see goats & mules playing on Boise Blue, but if a long term contract were set up at Giants' Stadium, it could work out best for both schools.

It would be good if it were to alternate between different cities and Giants stadium would be good, however the cadets are from all over the country, so it probably ought to rotate around.
Kinda have to agree with Kev concerning sponsers and you can bet your boots ole Jerry Jones will be negotiating a deal to bring the game to his new stadium in Dallas.
He's already got the Cotton Bowl dadnabit, whether its the Mobil Cotton Bowl or SBC whatever.
Mr Papa John's,Pepsi Cola,Miller Lite will definetly have a bunch of sponsers.
Wonder how much a cup of draft will be, Friend of mine got free tickets for Willies picnic in S.A.
on the 4th- great concert Los Loney Boys,Merle Haggard,George Jones etc. etc. but beer was 8 bucks for 16 ounce draft.

Interesting. How many cities are really going to be willing to fork out $4 Million to transport the entirety of both student bodies? My guess is not many.
  • JB · 1 year ago
I am with Clemson Joe here..... i doubt many cities are gonna bid on this thing
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago
Bring it to the Georgia Dome here in Atlanta. Then we wouldn't have to watch the cadets and midshipmen standing around in the rain like we usually do when they're in Philly.

I'd go see it--and root for Army. Kinda have to, having been a 30-year Army brat...

Diggs, who would you root for?
