Count me as those who don't see this as a good move for Tech. Leach is obviously the right man for the job, but they don't want to pony up the cash.
Question now is where does Leach go? I assume he takes a year off at this point before reemerging somewhere that fits his offense, but I can't really think of where that would be right now.

As stated on the previous thread, it's not as if Tech hasn't got the money. That said, it's not as if Leach is the best coach in the land, either. In my opinion, he's not. In my opinion, who ever the best coach in the land is, he isn't worth what they're offering Mike Leach. But, as K-Hue has eluded to, there's plenty of room for compromise. Yet, the question remains, "Is firing Leach a foregone conclusion." Besides, can a school even fire a coach with 2 years left on his existing contract, just because he refused the contract extension offer?
Now for the real bad news: GG503 has already said it. It'll be bad enough for TX Tech to lose a HC the caliber of Mike Leach, let alone the scholarship players the team will likely lose should Leach pack his bags for points unknown. That, in of itself, would be enough to reduce to ruble the house that Leach built. Sad.

Tech can absolutely fire Leach without cause. Some would argue that they have no choice but to fire Leach for going behind their back with Washington. (WASHINGTON!!!)
If Leach is gone, Texas Tech goes back to being Baylor-esque.

I'm glad that someone finally said that: if Leach goes, so does TT...
Why fire him? Many marriages lose the love but stay together for other reasons. If he's going to leave, he's going to leave, big buyout or not.
Tejas Tech CANNOT feel jilted that a hired-gun coach put feelers out after last year's run. You're not the biggest fish in that pond...
