Fanblogs.com: Which Conferences will fill their Bowl slots.

  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
Ben, Clemson needs 3 wins to make a bowl game. You are only allowed to count 1 win over a D-1AA team and we have 2 (The Citadel, South Carolina State). With that said, I'd say that 9 bowl eligible teams from the ACC is likely.
  • Kevin @ Fanblogs · 1 year ago
(Ed McMahon voice) You are correct, sir!!!!
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
I forgot that some schools actually do schedule two of those teams. That is a systematic error in my list. It may exist elsewhere.
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
Yeah, there's quite a few teams out there that do it. It's a bit ridiculous in a way, since you get credit for beating Idaho, or North Texas, but not for beating the Citadel, or even Appalachian State. I'm not complaining, since Clemson should be able to qualify without counting both, but the rule is a bit absurd. Bowls get to pick who they leave out anyway, so why not leave it up to them? It's probably so that a 6-6 Clemson type team can't go to a bowl game over a 3rd place MAC team or something.

LOL SOUNDS LIKE CLEMSON FOOTBALL IS BACK!!!LOL ROLLTIDE
  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
I'm sorry. I'm confused. Did I make some indication that "Clemson football is back"? I was actually clarifying that the odds are stacked against us to even make a bowl. The good thing that comes from all of this is that Tommy Bowden is gone. I'm sure you can relate to that, unless of course you were asleep during the whole Mike Shula era at Alabama.
  • BAMASBACK · 1 year ago
LOL it's hard to find a good coach.shula, price, franchony, debous, good luck.if I had any advice I would say just go all out with$ and power nick Sabah has complet control of Nama football and the pay of all other football coaches and a unlimated amount of $ for recruting. Yes this is true we had to hit rock bottom first but in Alabama it's all Alabama football that's all we care about just do what ever we have to do to win. In Alabama most everyone gives money to alabamafootball no matter what class your in. I know of people that make 20k a year and give 3k to bamafootball this it true no joke. That's why we have 12national championships and 21sec championships it's bama football around this parts. It the people that make a powerhouse program, just do what ever it takes to win . With the bad coaches and the probation the past ten years have been hard for Bama fans but we held on and fought threw it all. And so did the players . If you truly love your
teams like Bamafans do,your team will allways be in the hunt we will allways strive to be the best. It's your family your church and Alabama football around hear.and that's true it the hole state of Alabama . I coach little kides football 135lbs and have 47 players and everone of them dreams of playing bamafootball.I live in a town of 18k people and one year ago we raised 47,357 dollors for Alabama footballand three thousand people showed up to take it to them.we really care about alabamafootball just think about it no proteams no history in basketball just football, yes auburn is in the state but if you go to Alabama and then go to auburn there is no comparason it's just crazzzy.I give 10%to church,10%taxesand10%to Alabama football.I live off of 60% of what I make ever year if it's just how it is man we have god the family and football that's all no joke.the first think I asked my wife of 23yrs when we meat if she was a alabamafootball fan if she ever
stops being a alabamafootball fan we will not betogether I know this is true. So just to let the people out there know how it is in the state of Alabama that is how it is bamafootball is everything to 95% of this state no joke. So roll on you crimson tide we love you and we will allways be there for. To the death I know this is true in my soul.
Thank u god for alabamafootball and my god bless everone out there let's help keep collage football pure.ROLLTIDE

    A few SEC possibilities...

If LSU, Bama, FL win out the regular season...and Bama falls to FL in the SEC championship.
    And TT takes down Oklahoma.

LSU/ Oklahoma in The Cotton Bowl...let's see you bring it, Stoops.
Bama in the sugar Bowl...anybody need tickets?
TTech and Florida at the big show in Miami. I'll take another SEC national Champion, thank you very much! Should be an interesting game with Tebow and Harrell head to head...and crazy-legs crabtree, too.

  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
That may be, but they still have at least one more real game to win.........

Ron, Lennie, I haven't been able to get it right all year in the Big 12, save NE's win over KS. I honestly thought OK St was gonna beat Tech in Lubbock. Didn't even come close. So, Tech still has to visit Norman, and your Sooners still have to visit Stillwater, home to a bitterly disappointed, and (by that time) fighting-mad posse of Cowboys. One could argue that the way Tech is playing, they have the best chance to represent the Big 12 South in the Big 12 Championship. Well, they've been tough at home, even in recent years against you're Sooners. But when was the last time Tech won in Norman?!? This could be the year, but I for one am not ready to take that bet. Sadly, after OK wins in Norman, they'll drop their 2nd in Stillwater. So, between TX & TX Tech, who gets the tie-breaker? My opinion, it would have to be TX for having beaten your Sooners on neutral ground. Remember; I haven't gotten a lot of these picks right. Then again, maybe I'm over-due.
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
Zac, the way I understand it, if OU wins out, that would be a 3 way tie with OU/Texas/Texas Tech, the tie breaker would be whatever team is ranked highest in the BCS, would go to the conference championship game.......with OU beating both TT and OSU, it would be very close between Texas and OU.....we wouldnt know until after the OSU game..........it makes my head hurt !!!!
  • Tyler_Tech · 1 year ago
I have a question for you both. In the event that OU HAPPENS to win out, and leapfrogs tech and texas. Who do you think is the more likley candidate to get the at large BCS berth. Tech or Texas?? Here is my reasoning.......
Since we beat Texas head to head they would take us, but I have heard alot of other twists as well.....
  • Tommy_Trojan · 1 year ago
    Tyler_Tech:

What is the situation if Oklahoma does beat Texas Tech? What if Texas, Oklahoma and Texas Tech all finish with one loss (at 11-1)? Who would play for the Big 12 Championship? Does anybody know what the tiebreakers would be? I think that whoever gets to win an extra game is gonna end up with the highest BCS rating. It'll sway some other voters at the end of the last week. Of course, if Tech beats Oklahoma, it'll be a mute point. But, if I'm not mistaken, Oklahoma has the best home record (if it's not USC) of any team over the last several years. It's a hard place to pull off a win.
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
Tommy, it will have to be decided before that " extra game ", the extra game you're referring to is the conference championship, I think it's whoever is ranked higher in the BCS between OU/Tex/TT will play the extra game...if that makes any sense, I'm not sure ;-)
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
Sorry Tommy, I should have read your post closer, I'm pretty sure you're right......
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
Unless a real upset happens, only three games matter for the Big 12's BCS slots.

    Texas Tech vs Oklahoma
    Oklahoma vs Oklahoma State
    Big 12 Championship Game

If Texas Tech wins they will go to the Big 12 championship game.
If Oklahoma wins it will be a three way tie, unless they lose to Oklahoma State or an even greater upset occurs. The team that won head to head of the two that were not upset would go to the Big 12 Championship game. If Oklahoma beats Texas Tech then loses to Oklahoma State Texas Tech would go to the championship game.

In the even of a three way tie at a conference record of 7-1 each, the tiebreaker would be BCS standings.

    Current BCS points:
    Texas Tech 0.9715
    Texas 0.8798
    Oklahoma 0.8444

A win over Texas Tech could easily jump Oklahoma over Texas and drop Texas Tech just below Texas, but not below USC. A win over Oklahoma State would seal the deal, putting Oklahoma in the Big 12 Championship game.

Now comes the final part of the equation. If Oklahoma or Texas Tech win out they will likely be in the NC Game. Texas would be ranked higher in the BCS than the loser of the Texas Tech Oklahoma game and would most likely be in the Fiesta Bowl.

What if the South loses the Big 12 championship game? This would put a team from the Big 12 North into the Fiesta Bowl. Texas, if they win out, would be higher than the SEC championship loser, putting them in the National Championship game.
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
    yeah, that's what I meant !!!! ;-)
  • Tyler_Tech · 1 year ago
yeah but it still does not answer my question...........
At large berths do not always take the higher seeded team. My point is that if OU wins out, it would come down to Texas and TTech for the at large berth, so I do not think you can justify Texas going over us to the Fiesta, because we beat them head to head reguarless of BCS rank.
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
For the at large bids follow the money. Head to head, and even BCS standings do not matter. It is a completely a selection by the bowls among eligible teams.

Who will bring more fans and money to the bowl game?

    Texas Tech or Texas?

Some exceptions apply for the top 4, where the highest team in the BCS standings would get an automatic qualification.
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
Tyler, do you remember this game...Texas vs Kansas.....Mangino knows...

Yes I remember it well. That is pretty much the only game I care about this
weekend. I want reesing to return to his old ways and have a field
    day.......
  • Lennie Collins · 1 year ago
If Oklahoma wins out(if Oklahoma State and Missouri stays ranked), Texas Tech beats Baylor, and Texas wins out...it favors Oklahoma since Texas Tech and Texas plays NO MORE ranked teams. The only way Texas gets in if Texas Tech loses their last 2 and Oklahoma loses 1 more.

I can seriously see Ole miss winning out. They have La. Monroe, LSU, and Ms. State. They should reach the Cotton Bowl
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
I definitely think they will win one of those.
  • Zac · 1 year ago
Ole Miss got their patented upset for the season (FL). While they need to watch out for the kerayzee Monroe team from LA, they'll likely drop one to LSU before winning the state of MS for the 1st time in a while. I give em 2 outta 3.
  • Toddy · 1 year ago
Yeah we most likely got the only upset we have for this season. I was just wondering if we just happened to finish out the season with no losses where we could possibly end up?
