Great article, WarEagle!!! In my opinion you really hit the nail on the head. I'd be very surprised if Bleed Crimson, any of the gator mates, or TE would dispute what you have here. Very well done indeed.

Any of those two homos dispute what I wrote, and I'll kill them...

    Funny stuff-great article
Since the formation of the B-12- two big rivalries have changed The Texas vs Arkansas used to be a big one in the old SWC days and the Oklahoma vs Nebraska alternates and is not played every year like during the B-8 years.
Texas #1 Oklahoma #2 Texas A&M- everyone else used to be Arkansas

Those of us who live in Alabama know that Auburn is Alabama's biggest rival even though the LSU faithful would have us believe that it's them. Never gonna be. Tennessee has always been huge for us too.

Had Saban not come to Alabama we wouldn't even be on LSU's radar.

    Great job WEA!
  • GeauxTigers0107 · 9 months ago
"even though the LSU faithful would have us believe that it's them

I know of absolutely NO ONE around here (LSU country) who thinks that way. Any SEC fan in their right mind knows that Auburn is Alabama's biggest rivalry.

On the other hand, since Saban's arrival in Tuscaloser, alot of the LSU faithful have leap-frogged Bammer over Auburn as their top choice. I differ from that point of view and keep Auburn on the top of our list. I mean, the unmitigated gall........or even flattery, if you will.....to call yourself Tigers deserves the #1 ranking, along with the obligitory beatdown of said...and I quote..."team".

Oh yeah...and there was that cigar thing a while back.

There.....that should get the faux Tigers riled up....lol.

I disagree. I think you've always been their biggest rival, especially after going 28 years undefeated in their house. They don't have any natural enemies in state, so they have to go out of state.
  • GeauxTigers0107 · 9 months ago
"you've always been their biggest rival

So you're saying that we're on the top of Alabama's list? I'm confused...lol. Let me say this: On my personal ranking list of biggest rivals I have Auburn as the top, followed by Florida then Alabama. This is gaurenteed to be different from others....I just know alot of my close friends who think that way. It would wrong of me to assume all of Tiger Nation thinks that way though.

Wait.....I think you were replying toBamaBorn....soooorrrrrryyyyyyyy.

well for me, at least, i have different attitudes towards our different rivals that fluctuate from year to year.

right now i'd like to see Tennessee and Auburn build their programs back up because right now it looks as though they're at ground level.

Auburn: is like a little brother to me. annoying, sometimes will give you a black eye, but you still dominate him, and when you knock him down you pick him back up and give him a hug. i love you auburn, but don't EVER get a big head.

LSU: I hate LSU, but they hate me more. They're loud and obnoxious. they try to start fights. you try to avoid them as best as possible but sometimes you just can't resist knocking one of the drunken, obnoxious coonasses in the dirt ya know? but if you look closely you'll find the respectable LSU fans who'll invite you to their tailgate for refuge, give you a cold beer, crawfish, and corn.

Tennessee: i love beating them, but it really doesn't bother me that much if we lose. they seem to be pretty good losers/winners. i dont have a problem with their fans. it's just that game you like to win, but it's all in good fun. the historical top dogs in the SEC know how to handle ups and downs in their respective programs, and it's a pretty classy rivalry overall.
of course you may have a different take. i really don't run into too many TN fans down here in Tuscaloosa, and didn't have any at my high school either so.... yeah.
  • GeauxTigers0107 · 9 months ago
The only thing you've ever knocked out was a box of CoCo Puffs. You're as soft as drug store cotton candy. Now sit down and shut up....before I black your eye.

It's obvious that I'm bored out here on the water...lol.

How long do you have to stay out on the water at any given time?
  • GeauxTigers0107 · 9 months ago
I work a 14/14 rotation. That's 14 days out and 14 days in. It's very nice being off half the month (play alot of golf, cook, etc).

    "but you still dominate him..."

Umm, I'm an outsider to all of this, but didn't Alabama just beat Auburn for the first time in 7 years? Also, Alabama only leads by 6 wins overall. I don't think anyone of any level of delusion could seriously call that dominating.
  • Mr2Bits · 9 months ago

Alabama: 39-33-1 versus Auburn. They had a losing record against us before Bryant, and since Bryant, but went 19-6 during...
  • Zac · 9 months ago
Well, given what Bama lost this past season, despite what they've got coming in, were it not for Auburn getting a new coaching staff (not to mention who it is), I'd be all over Auburn over Bama this season. Now, I don't know what to think.
  • AUtigerman · 9 months ago
    ZAC

Are your refering to Gene Chizak when you say (were it not for Auburn getting a new coaching staff not to mention who it is).

I know as an AU fan that many fans, myself included, were a bit taken back by this hire intially. But if you look at what he had to work with at Iowa State he had little chance to succeed.
You really have to go back to Pop Warner to find a successful coach at Iowa State and that was in the 19th century.

    The major difference will be
    1. A quality assistant coaching staff.
    2. Quality recruiting opportunities.
    3. Quality players already in place.
He will certainly be given an opportunity to succeed.
Not to mention he is one on the best defensive minds in the game.

Thats funny stuff. Your what 19,20 years old ? and you think Bama has dominated AU. Well not in your lifetime they havent. And may never in your lifetime.
  • VTBobb · 9 months ago
This reminds me, why exactly happened with Tommy T.?
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 9 months ago
For the record, Alabama only wins 54% of games against both Auburn and Tennessee. Anyone else call that dominating? 65% is my threshhold...
  • Clemson_Joe · 9 months ago
WEA, hell of an article, man. Seriously. I'm not an SEC guy at all, but this was just good solid offseason reading. Thanks.
  • TampaGator · 9 months ago
    WEA:

Good stuff. I would have figured AU and UF being more hated than we appear to be by this reckoning.

You say Tennesse shoulda' been in the West--I think AU shoulda' been put in the East--with Tenn, UGA, and of course UF--and having UA as its one crossover. UF/AU was a GREAT rivalry. (Not sure who I'd send to West, so i'll just leave the matter unaddressed). The only question thebn would be how to preserve 3rd Sat/oct, since AU and Tenn would both want UA as their crossover, and AU would get preference.

Oh well...it ain't worth fretting over now.

If Nutt wasn't at Ole Miss, the other one would probably be Tennessee or Auburn. Tennessee used to be our permanent opponent but that was changed to South Carolina, who's a little too far and new to be rivalry.
  • ThePhan · 9 months ago
Good job and a nice idea. As a Vandy fan, the only one I would question is South Carolina as our #3. Ole Miss, whom we have been playing every year for decades and with whom we have had some very competitive games, is probably a better choice for our #3.
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 9 months ago
You're probably right, but I didn't get that much input from Vandy fans when researching the thread.
  • TigerEducated · 9 months ago
The permanent rotating schedule was created/dreamed up by Roy Kramer, to protect two teams:

    Tennessee (His homer school)

    and...

Alabama (at that point, still the most prestigious/standard bearer of the conference)

It's the EXACT reason we have one "permanent" opponent from the Eastern Division, and then two "floating" opponents.

To a lesser textent, the UGA/Auburn game and its traditional rivalry was an impetus for this same scheduling formula.

Notice that LSU was given Florida as their permanent opponent? Hmmm...
  • Porcine · 9 months ago
I would like to see a three on, three off, so every four years everybody got to play everybody. Auburn fans wouldn't like losing there annual Georgia game.
