Fanblogs.com: Who will win the Championship Belt?

  • Jeff · 1 year ago
    Huh?
Am I really first this time?
  • U.of S.C.1978 · 1 year ago
Ben, Ben, Ben, nice try Buddy. I'd prather play PacMan.
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
I have never had my name pronounced wrong in type before... congrats.

The emphasis is on the strong A, as in pray. It also should have a strong TH as in Thor.
  • Tigers318 · 1 year ago
It was a nice try though.

    it was

Interesting concept to read about, but I think it's on a level with fantasy-type leagues. It might be worth a look if college football was one big contiguous season that never ended, but the precedent dictates that with each successive season, the search for a champion starts afresh rather than being carried forward into the new season.
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
I had an idea for a similar method that starts fresh each season.

Let each FBS team start with a single token. Each game is played winner take all. The team with the most tokens wins the Token National Champion. Last year this would have been Georgia. If I remember correctly, LSU ended up with no tokens.

I was ready to announce this to the world if Hawaii had won, but we all know how delusional that idea was now.

Ben, I'm ashamed to reveal my stripes here, but I have no idea where you're going with this. I must be wearing my dunce cap. Can you, perhaps, give me a hint?
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago
You being Italian Zac, we can see that they're pin stripes...

    How's the old man, BTW?
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
I stumbled on this last season, as an alternative to the BCS, which I feel is not much less ad hoc than this.

As for where i was going with it, you should ask the beers that induced this last night...
  • 1Tomcat · 1 year ago
Ben Even if this thread was inspired by beer, you sir deserve a point for this one. I followed the link and quite frankly, somebody has too much time on their hands, however I found this to be a more interesting topic than uniform changes.
I found out that the belt spent quite a bit of time in the Pac-10 and big-10/11 but what was really cool was the fact that Baylor had it twice in one year. Baylor beat Colorado, then lost the belt to Rice who lost it to TCU who lost it back to Bayor, only to lose it to Texas Tech. Weird that this so-called victory chain Belt was had at times by some less than stellar teams and then re-emerges with some true championship teams-Strange Sh-t in my book.
I disagree with you on the Missu vs ILL game, Missu will win that one, the belt will most likely changes hands during one of the following
    Missu vs UT
Missu vs KU or the B-12 champ game, just my .04 cents

It made its lowest point in 1993-1998, traveling through Utah, BYU, Tulsa, Air Force, Iowa, Colorado State TWICE, New Mexico and Wyoming. Finally Washington took it from BYU and gave it to Nebraska.

The belt does that. Every once in a while it dives down into undeserving waters, then reemerges in the top teams. It appears to be on the verge of a down cycle right now. It does not really mean that much until someone has it 5 games or more in a row.

You're not alone there--and I commend you for your candor in coming clean, cuz it had me scratchin' a hole in my scalp...

    Further this poster sayeth naught.

    GO GATORS!!

It's just victory chaining into the future.
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago
I guess it closely resembles a title belt, like in boxing, which is relinquished when someone defeats the champ.

Or is like a communicable disease, which is passed on from host to new carrier...

Or a childhood game of tag...

Or like that movie Fallen, with Denzel and John Goodman...
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
Unlike the disease, the old host is rid of it once it is passed on.

Unlike tag the idea it that you want to be it.

Ahhh, yes... but can you connect it back to Kevin Bacon in 6 degrees or less??
  • Porcine · 1 year ago
Perhaps, it took like a minute to do this.
  • War_Eagle_Atlanta · 1 year ago
Here's a hint, Porky: use Animal House as a shortcut. Everyone was in that one...
  • Porcine · 1 year ago
Thank you sir, may I have another. . . . hint?
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
Porcine, you're actually smarter than your picture indicates, I guess I'm like Zac, I didn't understand it......maybe I should borrow that picture.
  • Porcine · 1 year ago
It was offered to Bleed Crimson by TE, but he has yet to make an offer.
  • fosterkeats · 1 year ago
-Mizzou will lose it to Texas on 10/18
-Texas will lose it to Texas Tech on 11/1
-Texas Tech will lose it to Oklahoma on 11/22
-Oklahoma will lose it to LSU on 1/2 in the Cotton Bowl
  • Porcine · 1 year ago
Why not just say Mizzou loses it to LSU in a bowl game?
  • fosterkeats · 1 year ago
That's too easy, gotta be creative... stay with me...
  • OU_Ron · 1 year ago
Only if it's a BCS bowl......
  • Porcine · 1 year ago
Sounds good to me. We got it from LSU and then MIzzou got it from us. I think Ben intended for us to use games already scheduled rather than potential games.
  • Ben Prather · 1 year ago
I suppose I implied after the bowl games are played, so conjecture about bowls is in order.

Indeed wild speculation about who can beat whom is in order.
