Yes, we hear those scenarios every few years, how if this or that happens, it will be a long time before OU beats UT. But every few years we manage to scrape enough guys together and win a game in Dallas. Poor OU.

So he's going to stay the DC @ UT for 10-15 years? He is supposedly going to pass up the multi-million dollar head coaching jobs that will come his way almost every year during that period? This is not going to keep him for more than 2 years, if that.

I still argue that a small part of this decision - ok, maybe a tiny part - is related to Robinson's firing at Syracuse. I mean... all that GR did at Texas was help lead them to a national title. There's no questioning the NC Longhorn's defense, right? So... was a very small part of this deal a sign to Muschamp that, "You're the man. Don't even worry if talking heads bring up Robinson coming back to Texas. It's you, big-boy." I think so.

My breakdown of the decision:

55% - Texas really wants WM as the next coach
40% - Texas does not want WM to interview elsewhere
5% - Quiet confidence re: Greg Robinson
50% - Mental
50% - Physical

Hey Ron LOL Hey at the BU game last week there was an Aggie standing right next to me with a t-shirt that said sawem off back to back- maroon shirt with the burnt orange logo-bevo with sawed off horns. These BU fans were giving those Aggies h-ll, one guy hollered heck they beat yall 7 years in a row and they didnt print no shirt. One guy hollered at them, heck yall dont have to score a toughdown to kiss your girlfriend, heck you can kiss her if you get a first down. It was really bad the BU Bears whuped them Aggies and the Bears fans behind us were talking noise real loud.They were even chanting bring back RC at one point. It was really a great game and the Aggies couldnt do nothing right and that was in Waco against the Bears. The Horns are gonna embarass those Aggies and its probably not even gonna be a game. Their big time running back Lane only got 3 yds rushing-pitiful. The A&M offense had 1 big pass play and 4 ints, the special teams had 1 blocked punt- thats it, but they have a real good band.

That's a serious insurance policy UT has taken out but I like the move. From a recruits stand point, it's brilliant. It shows continuity and stability. In a day and age when kids are withdrawing or decommiting, this will help the Cow Horns in the long run.

Mack isn't leaving anytime soon, according to the above-mentioned 8 yrs remaining, so that says alot about their committment to Will. He must be happy as a queer with a sack full of d__ks.....not that there's anything wrong with that.....if that's your thing and all.....

So back to my question.....is he now the highest paid DC in the country?

Ya WEA I read about this move and read Mushcamps comments- heck can you imagine getting close to a 1 mil per year as a DC, for a young guy who loves his job and his boss and the future he has belonging to a big time program thats really second to none, with the facilities and recruiting- not to mention the tradition, history and renovated 94,000 seat stadium.
There is total commitment for excellence from the top down and one of the largest alumi bases in the nation. There are no major sports programs in Central Texas other than the Spurs and Texas is a football state. The large Metro Areas DFW and H-town have NFL teams and their CFB teams other than TCU really all stuggle and have very limited success and/or fan support. Texas has sold out over 40 consecutive home games and the Athletic dept generates huge revenue, which it shares with the university and not the other way around.
You get a chance read the latest edition of Texas Monthly magazine, several pages about the UT athletic program and their success.
BTW WTF is a ROI

Seems like Brown really had no choice but to try and nail Muschamp down. Two things: he knew that other programs would come calling and he knew Muschamp's proclivity for Country music and Leaving songs...

Mack Daddy's pretty clear about 8 years being left on his contract, too. I got another news flash for you. WM ain't waiting 8 years to get the reigns of a program. This is clearly a stop-gap measure to keep WM in place for 2-4 years so they can get a decent ROI...

Granted, Mack may not last that long and the prophecy may be fulfilled...

I think it is a pretty smart move. It has to be great to have a young, exhuberant coach on the inside, and groom him to be the next head coach. Brilliant move if you asked me. The only thing I do not like about it is that it narrows the coaching search for the Tenn. opening. Stay with me leach! Sniffle.

Thanks WEA for a Texas thread- this is truley good news for America's pemiere program in college football. Muschamp is a very enthusiastic and energetic individual who leads by example and inspires his players to acheive their goals as a unit. The hard work and dedication exhibited by this defensive coordinater has him labeled as a players coach and its totally obvious with the entire team and not just the defensive unit.
In last weeks game they held a team averaging 35 points per game to only 7 points and are leading the B-12 in rushing defense and scoring defense, they currently rank 25th nationally in these two catergories, in which the numbers can be very misleading.So far during the 08 season the Longhorns have faced some of the most high powered offensive units in the country which includes 6 teams who were ranked top ten at one point. They are currently tied for 2nd in the country in sacks averaging 4 per game and held 6 of their opponents to 14 points or less.
Deloss Dodds AD for Texas has done an outstanding job in every aspect of Texas sports programs, not just football, but in baseball, basketball,swimming, track & feild, womens basketball, softball and soccer. The hire of Mack Brown was a perfect fit for the football program and this move on keeping Muschamp was a very wise thing to do given the success of the program. For many years the program has not been as consistant with retention of the assistant coaches, who have gone on to be HC's at other schools and UT is doing the right thing for everyone with this decision and Muschamp is the perfect guy at the right time.

I am glad to see that this move was made, because it really does make me look smarter than I really am. I've been saying for MONTHS that WM was getting a coach-in-waiting type deal at UT. And, while that was going out on limb, I'm glad to see that it turned out to be a sturdy branch.
