Fanblogs.com: Wisconsin nixes prime-time games against Texas

  • 1Tomcat · 10 months ago
Thanks I wasnt aware of this, Oh well- this big time matchups are going to be more scarce welcome to Austin UCF and UL Monroe
  • Zac · 10 months ago
TC, just have TX's AD call Ed Pastilong (WVU's AD). Betcha he and Bill Stewart won't pass at an opportunity to play in Austin. Just a thought.
  • 1Tomcat · 10 months ago
Hey no offense Zac, but heck the B-E had a little trouble with B-12 opponents last year, most notably WV vs Colo and Cinn vs OU. I'd love to see a WV vs Tex game, anything is better than some of the ones I've seen in previous years, FAU, N Tex ,La Laf, N Mex St.
Unforunatly these are the kind of games that we regularly attend. Given the popularity of the program, tickets are real expensive and hard to get for the big time opponents. I cant count how many Texas vs Rice games I have seen in person-heck I cant count that high.

No offense taken, TC; it's all good. And, you're absolutely right. The Big East did have a "little" trouble (as you chose to frame it) with the Big 12, having only won 3 of 5 against them. That's right; the Big East had a winning record against the Big 12.

Looking at the wins, not terribly impressive, I suppose. Louisville (5-7) won at home vs. K-St (5-7). S FL won a classic, at home, against KS, and UConn at home literally held off Baylor in another classic. The losses: WVU at CO (decided in OT), and Cincy (B.E. Champ) at OK (Big-12 Champ/NC runner-up). Now, if you look at that 2nd game, Cincy (relatively speaking) faired far better than either Tx Tech or MO, and about as well as TCU. So, arguably, the Bear-Cats aren't in bad company. I just wish they'd done better against VA Tech; they put up yardage on em, but not much on the scoreboard.

Tell ya wat, though. I honestly think in a couple of years a TX/WVU game would be fun to watch. Will it happen? Don't know, but at least we can talk about it.
  • 1Tomcat · 10 months ago
Thanx Zac Thanks for reminding me that BU@UConn was a great game- Bu really shoulda won- really close evenly matched contest- Do they play next year? gotta check the schedule- A 4-8 team from B-12 south hung tough with those Huskies-Awsome- The BU Bears had 3 real close ones this season UConn, TTech & Missu and they really didnt do too bad @ Neb Wow I look for BU to make a big impact this upcoming season. I realy didnt see any KSU games this year and now they have a new/old head coach coming back, so maybe they will improve, they lost a really good QB, but Ole Bill Syder knows how to win.
The SFU vs KU I didnt get to see- comparable teams last year I guess.
Once again thanks man-alot of times I post from memory alone and I stand to be corrected- TX vs WVU sounds cool with me- Hey you got any eyetaliun recepies ? off season dude- uniform threads will probably follow- no doubt

Another good game "ducked" by Wisconsin. Hope they can go undefeated by beating Hawaii and Wofford, and we can get the chance, to watch them get disgraced in the MNC game. I think they got a shot - don't you?
  • Tom_Blogical · 10 months ago
    "I think they got a shot - don't you?"

Probably. It's always better to schedule stronger opponents in the regular season, no matter who you're a fan of. However, I would much rather my team get disgraced in the MNC game and not choke and gag their way out of getting into it like USC seems to do every year. :-)
  • Regan · 10 months ago
OHST stood tall against TEX, Tom; looked like they would win the Fiesta Bowl for a while.

    I'd call that "Big-Game" Progress... :)
  • Tom_Blogical · 10 months ago
Yeah, now for the next step. Winning. :-)
  • Regan · 10 months ago
Rome wasn't built in a day, and Ohio State has won a BCS game since Oklahoma...

Pryor is coming along, and at least Michigan will be a whipping boy for another year or so...I think you're going to be alright. :)
  • Tommy_Trojan · 10 months ago
    Tom:

I'm being facetious. Wisconsin has no chance of ever getting into a National Championship game. So, why duck Texas? It doesn't stop them from getting into the Rose Bowl - even if they do lose the game. It smacks of "we don't want any more losses on our record than is absolutely minimal" - in order so we can get the best "Bowl Invite" possible. That is what is so disturbing. I praise teams like Ohio State, Texas and Southern Cal - who let the playing on the field determine how many games we're all gonna lose.
  • Tom_Blogical · 10 months ago
    "I'm being facetious."

Nah, you couldn't be! I agree with you. I just wanted to get your dander up about September and you disappointed me with this reply! :-)
  • Regan · 10 months ago
    Agree, Tommy.

Look at Ohio State 2005 & 2008 and Virginia Tech 2007. In all cases, they scheduled big OOC games with powerhouses, lost big (although OHST didn't lose to TEX that bad in 05), and still had really good seasons culminating with BCS Bowls.

Same goes for SCAL; but they always seem to win...

It's a win-win to play good teams; it needs to happen more often...
  • hrposon · 10 months ago
Texas could and should schedule a lot better OOC.
USC year in and year out schedules the toughest nonconference teams and it doesn't seem to hurt them. They have more of a problem getting ready for Stanford and Oregon State. :-)
  • 1Tomcat · 10 months ago
TT I dont understand your post- You said that Wisc has no chance of getting in the MNC game- I totally disagree with that statement- they belong to a BCS conference, they go undefeated and their chances are better than Utah. They could win the Big10/11 and still go just like OSU has, we have seen a two loss LSU team in the MNC game and seen undefeated teams left out- so Wisc has just a good a shot as anybody and every year is different.
  • Tommy_Trojan · 10 months ago
    Tom:

What are you babbling about, "not choke and gag their way out of getting into it like USC seems to do every year"? What kinda crap is that coming from you? You lost to Illinois in 2007, were an extremely overrated team (and so was Illinois), and still backed into the MNC game with one loss. I think when we destroyed Illinois 49-14 in the Rose Bowl, that that pretty much proved that a two-loss USC team, was still better than a one-loss Ohio State team was. You further proved it by being "blown out" by LSU. Seems to me that it is Ohio State that "chokes and gags" every year.

BTW, I am equally biased against all teams, as I did take home some money on your Bucks this year. I did consider that every single team in the Big 12 was overrated, and won money on every single game, except for the Kansas game. Why did I take Minnesota? Beats the hell outta me. But, you really ought to quit your yappin' about USC, as you still got one more azz poundin' to come.
  • Tom_Blogical · 10 months ago
ROTFLMAO! Took you long enough! I was beginning to wonder where your smack talk went, bro!

At least they get into the MNC game, then choke and gag there against quality opponents, as opposed to choking and gagging against inferior opponents nearly every season. (Yeah, Illinois was the aberration for tOSU.) :-)

Looking forward to September when OSU returns the favor to USC at the 'Shoe.

Look me up if you plan on coming out. I'll show you a great time.
  • Tommy_Trojan · 10 months ago
    Tom:

Don't you have any female relatives or friends that could handle that any better? Otherwise, I might take you up on the offer.
  • Tom_Blogical · 10 months ago
    Tommy_Trojan:

I'm happily married, but if you want to bring your bud Boi from Troy and double date with my wife and me, you're more than welcome.
  • Tommy_Trojan · 10 months ago
    Tom:

"Look me up if you plan on coming out. I'll show you a great time".

This just doesn't sound much like a guy who's happily married. It sounds more like some of the squaws that I used to hang around with who were tryin' desperately to ditch me. On more than one occasion, I would overhear one of their telephone calls extorting exactly the same phrase, and within a week - they were long gone.

    LMFAO
  • Tom_Blogical · 10 months ago
Wow. I thought you were joking at first, hence my joking reply. But now it's clear that you're not only classless, it appears that you're definitely not blessed with ESP. Offer rescinded, as it looks like my wife and I will have a helluva lot better time without your company.

And what are you talkin' about? There's only steers and kweers in Texas. Unless you "moo" and chew a cud - I gotz to be wonderin' "whaz up"?
  • 1Tomcat · 10 months ago
Hey TT Just got through with my tamales and deer chili, speaking of cows, I got to go load one up and haul it to the auction, this morning.I really have nothing against Cali- heck I have Neice- [model] & her Husband-[record producer] who live out there.
I also have a cousin out there who is a guru, he makes a killing massaging feet and reading eyeballs- he also prescribes holistic herbs and remedies. He has really found out that the wealthy celebrities out there just eat that kinda stuff up.We are all real proud of his accomplishments and enjoy hearing about his escapades, hanging out with movie stars etc etc. This is the same guy that used to pull corn, haul hay, dig graves and sell tacos when he was here.
Got to go hook up my trailer now-Adios Tomcat
  • OU_Ron · 10 months ago
Just shows to go ya TC, you can be anything you put your mind to........
    LMAO
  • 1Tomcat · 10 months ago
Ya Ron This guy really found his calling, He has a degree in agriculture, however I remember him taking Karate,Yoga and Scuba diving while in college. Natural born sellsmen, heck he could sell snowballs to eskimos.
He took my neice and her husband out to dinner in LA- $200 a plate.
Long way from the welders helper on the Phillips pipeline. He flies home every year at Christmas.
We used to work on his daddy's ranch and after lunch, he would meditate, my Gradfather used to say he's not meditating, he's hesitating.
I know it sounds kind of funny, but what the heck, the guy is doing what he enjoys and people pay him for his services. Heck witha little training maybe he could get me involved, I've got some great lose weight and get in shape ideas- like the post hole digging exersize, the clear brush exersize and the shovel gravel exersize- I'll bet they will lose weight garunteed or their money back.
  • OU_Ron · 10 months ago
That guy sounds just like waht I need to sell dozers and motorgraders....if he ever needs a job, send him my way...;-)
  • 1Tomcat · 10 months ago
    Kinda doubt it Ron
He used to sell foosball tables-remember those things.
  • Tommy_Trojan · 10 months ago
    TC:

Now, that thar is funny stuff. Sounds about right for some of these freaks out here. I haven't heard of the "reading eyeballs" scam. What on God's creation is that all about? Is it something like "palm reading"?

Man, if all I had to do was read some guys eyes to make a million bucks, I'd own half the planet by now. Shoot, used to be that you could shake some guys hand, and if he was some cold clammy limp wristed bag of sheeit - then you pretty much had him pegged. Guess those days are gone.
  • 1Tomcat · 10 months ago
TT By looking at you eyes,he can tell you what ails you, like you need iron in your diet or here take some chayane pepper. He uses natural medicinces and not pharmacuticals.
Through proper diet, exercize, meditation, yoga and different herbs and roots etc etc- he will fix you up and you will feel better. The guy is not really any kind of scam artist or anything, he is really good at what he does. Its kinda like seeing a chiropracter/ spiritual healer/personel trainer etc etc.
Massaging feet is alot different than reading palms. He helps people releive stress and feel better-so its really a purty cool job.
BTW one of his clients plays for AZ Cardinals
  • Tom_Blogical · 10 months ago
Honestly, I'm glad you interpreted the situation the same way I did, too. I thought I was in the twilight zone there for a while.
  • Tommy_Trojan · 10 months ago
    Tom:

Oh, but you can make jokes about "the Boi from Troy", and that's perfectly acceptable. But, I'm a freak for being somewhat skeptical (it was a joke), about your real aspirations. I don't understand where in the world all of these "emotional" football fans come from. Must take years of losing for that to happen.
  • Tom_Blogical · 10 months ago
Emotional? You're reading something that isn't there, but I do realize it's convenient to try to blame it on that, if you can.

So anyway, let me see if I understand this correctly. You take an honest invitation to come to my home state, watch a game and tailgate, pervert it and shit on it not just once but twice, and then you expect me to somehow not be somewhat offended? (An invitation offered BTW, to show you that the smack talk was all in good fun.)

    Ooooooo-kaaaaaaayyy.

I thought it was clear from my second comment (a response to your initial buffoonery) that I could care less about your obsession with sexual orientation, and that it was actually you who is fixated on something so stupid. Apparently, you're one of those people who has to be drawn a picture to go along with the text.

And apparently, you haven't seen other commenters here try to meet up and catch a game together, despite whether they're opposing fans or not. I'm pretty sure they're not coordinating some secret sex hookup...unless I'm just incredibly, surprisingly wrong about that. And to quote Seinfeld...not that there's anything wrong with that.

Here's a free tip. It's fine to be skeptical, but the next time you want to find out someone's intentions, try asking a few common sense questions first, rather than throwing juvenile, insulting "jokes" around.

And the next time, I guess I'll have to make sure I'm very specific when I offer an invitation to someone to go to a football game. That way, I'll be sure to filter out the nitwits.
  • Tommy_Trojan · 10 months ago
    Tom:

Sorry you got issues. I didn't mean any "disrespect" toward your family. It was supposed to be fun, and I actually thought you were a fugkin' dude there for a minute, but I guess I got that one wrong. I noticed that Tomcat didn't have to take anything personally, and I didn't either, by either one of your remarks. Tomcat's out ridin' steer right now. Again, you brought up the "Boy from Troy" stuff. Normally, it's reserved for the ladies to invite some guy over "for a good time". If you can't understand that joke - then that is your problem. Ever guy I know, would jump all over me, for comin' up with that. I don't know what planet your livin' on guy. Are you Amish or something?

    Gentlemen:

Kindly exchange emails, phone #'s, addresses, whatever, but please just take this personal love-hate soap operatic exchange the hell off a CFB blog.

I poke my head back in just check the latest CFB scuttlebut, and what the hell do I find?

    "As the Blog Turns"

    Settn' my gadar off....

Frankly I'd rather read 100+ posts about how Michigan deserved the NC's in '06, and Texas or Utah in '08, than this sappy sh*t.

Kindly tell each other to F%$k off, and be done with it--or plan your little rendevous via email, or some other private medium of communication...

    GO GATORS!!
  • Tom_Blogical · 10 months ago
You know, that's funny coming from you, since we had that never ending pissing contest about a year ago.

Who says you have to read it anyway? Read something else.

At any rate, I took your advice before you gave it. I just submitted my last comment about it.
  • Tom_Blogical · 10 months ago
You're misunderstanding what I took issue with. I don't have a problem with the jokes per se. I have a problem with you assuming I had some ulterior motive and shitting on my invitation, not once, but twice. Your timing sucks.

"But, I'm a freak for being somewhat skeptical (it was a joke), about your real aspirations."

We've exchanged comments here at Fanblogs about college football before, and you didn't know I was referring to a football game? Then at the same time, you're "joking"? Which is it?

I'm sure your jokes would've been funny in an appropriate context. As I mentioned before, it's all about the timing. You know, after you've established what my "real" intentions were.

You know what? Whatever. It doesn't matter anyway. The issue is closed, as far as I'm concerned. I'm the one with the issues, so let's just leave it at that.

    L8r.
  • Tommy_Trojan · 10 months ago
    Tom:

I was never serious about any "ulterior motives". I was just funnin' with you. I know you're a straight up guy. It was a bad choice of words using "relatives" on my part. Nevertheless, I didn't mean any harm to you personally, and I apalogize if there has been a misunderstanding.
  • Tom_Blogical · 10 months ago
Apology accepted. Let's move on before I have to take more of TampaGator's advice and tell him to "f%$k off".
  • TampaGator · 10 months ago
    LOL!

b/t/w: If recollection serves, the "piss'n contest" you referred to was all about the speed differential in UF v. OSU NC game--nothing about rely's, homo's, rendevous's, feel'ns, emotions, etc.; none of that soap opera stuff--just straight up CFB smack.

    Carry on...

    GO GATORS!!

  • Tom_Blogical · 10 months ago
I neglected to apologize to you. I'm sorry I didn't choose my words better with my original reply; and I should've been more clear.

Anyway, once again, I consider the matter closed.

  • Tom_Blogical · 10 months ago
    TC-Who?
  • Zac · 10 months ago
Actually, TB, the boyz at Camp Randal should consider it. It may not be the Longhorns, but TCU would still be a great way to start the season. It's gotta be better than that away game at Fresno.
  • Tom_Blogical · 10 months ago
I'm sure they should. I just like ribbing Ben a little, and he's used to it by now! :-)

    Another byproduct of the BCS...
No one now wants to schedule good OOC opponents. That's why a playoff of conference champions gives us what we want. Great football games.
You can lose a game to a great team in September and still have a shot at the Glass Football.

My dream is still that Texas schedules a home and home with Michigan, LSU, Tennessee and USC. Another date with tOSU wouldn't be bad either.
Great road trips for all parties...

hrposon The Horns have home & home scheduled with UCLA & Ole Miss
I'd love to see Tex vs Bama
  • hrposon · 10 months ago
I'll be going to Oxford and LA. UCLA beat us twice in the last home and home and we need to get even. Hopefully Ole Miss is on the way up after a long drought.
A friend of mine whose wife went to Alabama said that you haven't lived until you've been to an Alabama home game. I'd love to see it happen...
  • 1Tomcat · 10 months ago
hrposon Oxford is a great place- ought to be a great game, hopefully UCLA can rebuild. A Texas vs Bama matchup would be awsome- two of the traditional powerhouses facing off head to head-Tuscalosa & Austin. CFB gameday crew would definetly be there and millions of fans nationwide on big screen HD's- These games need to happen-IMHO and these kinds of matchups are what the fans really want to see.
    Hookem-Horns
  • Tom_Blogical · 10 months ago
I wouldn't mind tOSU scheduling Texas either. Texas' fans are extremely gracious and fun to hang out with. And the games are typically tight.
  • hrposon · 10 months ago
We went up to Columbus in 2005 and had a great time. We got to see the famous Horseshoe, noisiest outdoor stadium I've been to. The OSU fans treated us very well. You could feel the electricity in the air and no one knew who was going to win.
In 2006, the Buckeyes were seen vacationing all over Texas spending good cash and made it to Austin for the game. OSU won the game and the Buckeyes had a trip they'll never forget.
That doesn't happen when you play Louisiana-Lafayette.
  • Zac · 10 months ago
I'll tell ya what. The last 3 OSU/TX match-ups sure reminded me a lot of when ND & TX used to square off...back when ND had a decent team, that is.
  • Tom_Blogical · 10 months ago
I agree. Their games are how college football should be all the time. The way things are going here in Ohio...I think I'd consider moving to Texas, but that's all non-CFB related, anyway.
  • Tom_Blogical · 10 months ago
Yeah, and you got some Buckeye fans that don't represent the rest of us either, unfortunately. I'm very glad you came up to 2005 to see how a majority of Buckeye fans are.

The 'Shoe is incredibly loud. It sounds like 5 jumbo jets taking off when the crowd gets into it!
  • hrposon · 10 months ago
All schools have a couple of bad fans. I didn't meet any in Columbus.
Tommy Trojan should start making his reservations now.
