Fanblogs.com: WVU fall = Win for Big East?

  • Clemson_Joe · 1 year ago
I agree wholeheartedly with you, Kevin. The Big East needs West Virginia to play well, just like the ACC needs Miami and FSU to play well. It takes too long for the rest of the country to recognize a newcomer as a powerhouse and the more powerhouses a conference has, the better they are perceived to be, just ask the SEC.

I agree with you Kevin. (Amazing how fast you post this stuff I just read this article a few min ago.) But from a BE team fan, I believe Bennet was looking for a something to write about. WVU having a bad year is not good for the BE. It could have been if WVU had won all the games up until now and the other BE teams did the same. Then if WVU lost a conf game or two, I can see his argument. It would keep credibility for the conference and then allow another team to play in a BCS (and hopefully win). Loosing back to back OOC games though and the rest of the conference having equal problems does nothing for the BE.

I was contemplating the other day what would I rather see, WVU a team that will have lost most of it's OOC to go through and win the BE? or have to bear loosing for a 3rd season to S. Florida and them winning the BE. I don't know it's a really tough call. While i would love to go to another BCS game I realize that at this point if WVU goes through to win the BE it will be EXTREMELY detrimental to everything that the BE has been trying to do over the last few years. However, should WVU win against Auburn in a month, a lot will have changed.

    Bill Stewart is a catastrophe.

I agree with Bennett, but only to the point that WV needs to fall in conference games.

By falling to out of conference teams they drag their conference down with them.

If the Big East pulls a Pitt 2004 it will not be good for the conference! Which works for me, just gives more support to the idea that the MWC deserves an Auto-bid (or at least a play in auto bid).

I do admit the BCS needs to add MWC to the automatics bids, since the new New Dallas stadium will be added in the BCS rotation in a few years

Kev: I don't understand what you meant by this paragraph:

If you look at the SEC as being more top heavy with 5+ top twenty teams per year, then perhaps you can conclude that the lack of a single dominant team is the reason. However, you only have to go back to Auburn's undefeated season to see how quickly poll voters can mitigate a conference that lacks a single stud-horse.

Sure, having 5 good teams will probably prevent you from having one break-away teams. I don't understand the last sentence, though. Are you saying that just because the conference had an undefeated team in 2004 that they got shunned?

My comprehension has been sorta off ever since Saturday night...

While i believe that the Big East does need more giants, i also believe that WVU needs to step it up to be the giant it has been the last 3 years. Bill Stewart is such a nice guy, but i agree with my husband that if he doesn't start winning games, people aren't going to like him. WVU has a fantastic coaching staff and the best Heisman contender this year, there is no reason they shouldn't be winning. Offensive line is the same other than Schmitt. Did he make that big of a difference?? Come on guys, get out there and kick some butt and make Rich Rod regret leaving our powerhouse to be a freakin' wolverine!!! We have the only Blue and Gold that matters anyway... If they don't step it up, Auburn will put the hurtin' on us!
I know there are other awesome BE teams in the conference; South Florida to speak of one. And although others want that BCS bid for a bowl game, I'm hopeful that WVU will retain it's leader status, beginning with beating Marshall!!!!
My blood flows blue and gold, boys. I am proud of our boys, but Stewart needs to coach and make some noise on those sidelines!

A quick look back to 2006 proved what multiple teams at the top helped the Big East. The 3-way race at the top between WVU, Rutgers, and Louisville was captivating, and USF was no slouch either, posting a 9-4 record.

The Big Easters went 5-0 in Bowl play, too.

I see what Bennett is saying, but let's face it:

Multiple Powerful Teams > One Powerful Team > No Powerful Teams

Our first priority here, as U of L fans, is to get the Cards back among the contenders. If WVU is off a bit while we are hopefully getting better, that can't be too bad for us. On the other hand, if we're a bunch of weak sisters like the ACC, not sure our conference caould get away it for long.

Stewart was hired in a drunken frenzy at the bowl game. Now everyone is sobering up and realizing their error. WV has had a free rein to the BCS each year since the good teams left for the ACC. Now they are just average in a average conference. The BE should lose its BCS autobid!!!

Bill time out stewart cost W.V. a number 4 ranking and a B.C.S. title game over not haveing his team ready to go.I mean who in the right minds does a double reverse on there own 34. Then this man has the moxie to not go for it on fourth and 1 inch and he calls himself a river boat gambler.I hate to see this next strech wvu could go 0-3 the next three games ending with auburn at home watch out uh-oh game .Now mind you that ecu got beat by huston which was 1-3 and then colorado got beat by flordia st which had 7 players hurt or suspended. In the oh mighty acc. This year already lost whens basketball season start. Can someone please help.

I am shocked that wvu look like a freakin champ in the first half.I mean what in the hell was the coaches thinking.First you have a double reverse on your own 35.And to top that off we have a player take the ball of a bounce and point at a player for a good 3-4 seconds. If the ball is live run into the endzone. And then you have a return guy catch the ball at the 3 yard line. Not to mention returns of 65 and 73 yards by the herd .Please dont get me started on the coach I mean he has enough trouble keeping time outs.
