Although this article is a week old, I'll still respond...you do realize that this is the same kicker that received death threats after he missed two chip shot kicks against Pitt last year..with the National Championship on the line or not...he has reason to be bitter with the 5% of the Mountaineer Fans who are ignorant.
I think the purpose is to let the Mountaineer fans know that Bill Stewart and Company is getting things going in a direction that looks good for the future and fans should get off his back. Media as well...WV media and National media has been absurd toward Coach Stew.
The Senior Night game was vs. South Florida with 20 degree temperatures, snow and single digit wind chill........the game was sold out...however there was many empty seats. Hence Fair-weather fans. lol.
Pat Mac is a great kicker and is hilarious....funniest WVU player ever. He deserves the oppurtunity to speak, but he is refering to a small part of the fanbase....Ask him if he'd change his mind on where he went to school and he'd tell you WVU is the best college in the world.

I'm glad he made the comment. I'm sure all the fair-weather fans are up-in-arms about this comment but it's only because they are looking for something to complain about. A true fan would likely agree with the comments.

I consider myself a true fan and i think McAfee is and ignorant ass. Sure he can make a field goal from 55+ yards out, I still don't like him and I never have. I couldn't stand him back when he had that backstreet boy look going on 2 years ago with the long bleached hair. If he wants to make stupid comments like that I think he should look back to the bowl games of 2004 and older, before they were in NC talks. WVU fans were filling up the stadium in Jacksonville against opponents like Maryland. In fact for that particular game WVU bought half of UMD's tickets because of the huge unbalance in demand. moron.....
U can justify some of those fans leaving for senior night as it was December, snowing, 10 degrees out and wind blowing. That didn't make me leave or i would say about 85% of the fans, but come on get real. I don't care what team you are in those conditions, for a game that essentially means nothing for the bowl prospects AT ALL, you're going to loose a few people at half.

Shiguy, you surprise me a little here. Besides you, Diggs, myself, and the occasional visit from another, hither and yon, how many WVU fans do you typically see on this blog? How many blogs do you frequent, and how many WVU fans do you see there? I frequent a WVU football blog, and at its peak, there are never more than 6 of us who are steady customers.
Consider what WVU football has accomplished since the 2nd year Rich Rodriguez was HC? While WVU fans have sold their ticket alotments and helped to sell out each bowl game they've attended since, you're only talking 1 game/year, and you're only talking 15K-20K fans/game. You can't use one game as a measure of fan support throughout a season. AND, while I too don't particularly enjoy sitting in 20 degree weather, I supose it's OK for the team to play in it, but I don't have to stay and watch em play.
I've never met Pat McAfee. I don't know what he's like as a human being. I can only tell you that he's arguably the best punter/place-kicker/FG kicker package WVU has ever had. Yes, he's made some long FG's and missed some short ones. It doesn't change what he's accomplished in his career. AND, if people threatened my life and damaged my property, just because I personnally had a bad game, when there were 40 more team-mates involved with the same game at one time or another, I'd be rather bitter as well.
Here's a little more proof for the pudding. Let's not forget that after WVU's loss at CO, people began calling for Bill Stewart's job, and some still are. We've said it before in other threads; there's no accounting for idiots, and WVU fans have their share of em.
Whether or not it's a fair assessment of WVU's fan base, rightly or wrongly, I can't blame McAfee for saying what he said.

Ok, well let me make some things clear. First, I was agreeing with you that it is ok that a few people are not going to enjoying sitting through the game given the particular circumstances. Second, i was disagreeing with McAfee because I think he is an arrogant asshole who doesn't know what the hell he's talking about. Our fan base puts any other team in the conference to shame. There is a reason that the game that night didn't matter to much. The Car Care bowl needed a team that would fill their stadium, in the big east there is no better team for that than WVU. So if McAfee thinks that our fans are such "fair weather" fans I suggest he go somewhere like Maryland where I attended originally and can tell you that is a perfect example of "fair weather" fans. You think our fans left? There it doesn't matter what the score is win, lose, one touchdown, 3 point differences, conference on the line, doesn't matter i promise after halftime only 60 percent will remain.
Third, I have never liked McAfee because of few things. First, I as well as several other friend have met him and can tell you he is an ARROGANT ASSHOLE. I have never met a goddamn kicker who thought he was such a god everywhere he went. Let me say that i have met Slaton and White and NOT at a signing event or meet event but actually just out and met them and i will tell you those two were not so high and mighty. So that is why i don't like him. I have heard some very uncomforting things as well from VERY reliable sources about some of the things he did to his GF while at WVU.

95% of WVU fans are cool, but as with all schools, there is a 5% that is a problem.
That 5%? The two words "Death Threats" are what sticks out in my mind. Given how bizarre the RichRod situation hit the fan base, etc., I fully understand this 21-year old kid having an issue with the fans that have caused problems for him.
As far as fan attendence goes, he's right about fan support - fans that love a team like WVU should sell out the stadium in any good season, not just when the NC is on the line.
With all that has seemed to happen to WVU in the past year given the tremendous success that had been put together, it is a shame that things seem to keep coming up to cause issues for them....I like the 'Eers...

...Except the accomplishments of Pat White. He's from my neck of the woods...I went to the same high school as he did. No universities in this region would recruit him as a quarterback, and so he ends up at West Virginia and goes on to do something no other college QB has done - win 4 bowl games as a starter. Great accomplishment for Pat. I wish him the best of luck in his future.
But you are right, there's not much else to talk about when it comes to WVU football this year....besides the fact that they blew out Auburn! .... oh wait, nevermind... ;)

Thanks BB Yes this is great for Rice first bowl win since they destroyed Alabama over 50 years ago. Chase Clement and Jarrett Dillard went out on top and were one of the best QB to WR combos in the history of CFB. So far Texas teams are undefeated in Bowls BTW If I lived in your area- I wouldnt be worth nothing, because I would probably spend too much time out in a boat .

Yes, I grew up in a "divided" household... Yes, there was the choice between UA and AU... Yes, I chose to be and Alabama fan over an Auburn fan... Yes, I chose to attend the University of Alabama over Auburn and many others..(not that there was ever any doubt)
So I guess you could say i "chose" to be an Alabama fan. And I am quite happy with my decision. Never in my life have I woken up and regretted it - being a fan or attending the University. When half of my family - the half that lives closest to me, might I add - is for AU, I am soo out-numbered. This decade has pretty much been hell for me! So I guess you can say this year has been pretty sweet ;)

I'm certainly sorry if you missed all the post & comments during the last two seasons heaping praise onto WVU (particularly Coach Rod, but WVU nonetheless). I'll offer my apologies as well if nothing truly exceptional has happened for WVU in the last few months that prompted a post. (In fairness, I did note that WVU has the 34th best graduation rate in college football.) But... maybe your coach will leave some additional time outs in his pockets during the spring game and we can discuss that in detail.

When he was talking about Senior night, well who doesn't have some Fans that leave at halftime or just generally leave when the windchill fact is in the teens?
It's not even about those things at all. To me it's your word choice which gives the "guy who's just dropping in to read headlines" the wrong impression. You of all people should know better than this......Professionals do not need to twist words or insert their own words and then try to pass them off as fact in order to get a little more traffic. I think the purpose is to let the Mountaineer fans know that Bill Stewart and Company is getting things going in a direction that looks good for the future and fans should get off his back. Media as well...WV media and National media has been absurd toward Coach Stew.
The Senior Night game was vs. South Florida with 20 degree temperatures, snow and single digit wind chill........the game was sold out...however there was many empty seats. Hence Fair-weather fans. lol.
Pat Mac is a great kicker and is hilarious....funniest WVU player ever. He deserves the oppurtunity to speak, but he is refering to a small part of the fanbase....Ask him if he'd change his mind on where he went to school and he'd tell you WVU is the best college in the world.

I personally appreciate what you've had to say about Coach Stew. It's high time more WVU fans stood up for the man.
U can justify some of those fans leaving for senior night as it was December, snowing, 10 degrees out and wind blowing. That didn't make me leave or i would say about 85% of the fans, but come on get real. I don't care what team you are in those conditions, for a game that essentially means nothing for the bowl prospects AT ALL, you're going to loose a few people at half.
Consider what WVU football has accomplished since the 2nd year Rich Rodriguez was HC? While WVU fans have sold their ticket alotments and helped to sell out each bowl game they've attended since, you're only talking 1 game/year, and you're only talking 15K-20K fans/game. You can't use one game as a measure of fan support throughout a season. AND, while I too don't particularly enjoy sitting in 20 degree weather, I supose it's OK for the team to play in it, but I don't have to stay and watch em play.
I've never met Pat McAfee. I don't know what he's like as a human being. I can only tell you that he's arguably the best punter/place-kicker/FG kicker package WVU has ever had. Yes, he's made some long FG's and missed some short ones. It doesn't change what he's accomplished in his career. AND, if people threatened my life and damaged my property, just because I personnally had a bad game, when there were 40 more team-mates involved with the same game at one time or another, I'd be rather bitter as well.
Here's a little more proof for the pudding. Let's not forget that after WVU's loss at CO, people began calling for Bill Stewart's job, and some still are. We've said it before in other threads; there's no accounting for idiots, and WVU fans have their share of em.
Whether or not it's a fair assessment of WVU's fan base, rightly or wrongly, I can't blame McAfee for saying what he said.
Third, I have never liked McAfee because of few things. First, I as well as several other friend have met him and can tell you he is an ARROGANT ASSHOLE. I have never met a goddamn kicker who thought he was such a god everywhere he went. Let me say that i have met Slaton and White and NOT at a signing event or meet event but actually just out and met them and i will tell you those two were not so high and mighty. So that is why i don't like him. I have heard some very uncomforting things as well from VERY reliable sources about some of the things he did to his GF while at WVU.
(Then there's Zac, who is really cool and nearly challenged me to an absurdity contest...)
95% of WVU fans are cool, but as with all schools, there is a 5% that is a problem.
That 5%? The two words "Death Threats" are what sticks out in my mind. Given how bizarre the RichRod situation hit the fan base, etc., I fully understand this 21-year old kid having an issue with the fans that have caused problems for him.
As far as fan attendence goes, he's right about fan support - fans that love a team like WVU should sell out the stadium in any good season, not just when the NC is on the line.
With all that has seemed to happen to WVU in the past year given the tremendous success that had been put together, it is a shame that things seem to keep coming up to cause issues for them....I like the 'Eers...

I'm certainly sorry if you missed all the post & comments during the last two seasons heaping praise onto WVU (particularly Coach Rod, but WVU nonetheless). I'll offer my apologies as well if nothing truly exceptional has happened for WVU in the last few months that prompted a post. (In fairness, I did note that WVU has the 34th best graduation rate in college football.) But... maybe your coach will leave some additional time outs in his pockets during the spring game and we can discuss that in detail.
